Debian + Samba 3.0 + Mac OS X 10.[2-3] -> insufficient privileges
hi all, I've read trough the list and see discussions with similar problems. I've setup a file server and users can connect to it via SMB/CIFS. Windows users just happy. The problem starts with the Mac users. All Mac users are using OS X (versions 10.2,10.3). I'm vetoing several files right now, permission inheriting turned on, I've forced the create mode and directory mode to

samba + MacOS X
Hi, I have got problem with samba 2.2.5a and Mac OS X 10.2.6. I my network the samba is working great, but when I connected the Mac system, I can see on it every file with size 16 MB. So when I try to burn 50 files 1 kB each, I can't because MacOS is taking size 16 MB of each. When I try to burn the same files from windows sharing, there every file have got size 4 kb, so it is ok.Where should

ANNOUNCEMENT: New Project- Baltra (AFP/SMB services compatibility)
(This is a brief announcement of a focused development/refinement of the Netatalk project.) The primary goal of Baltra is to provide a Mac OS X compatible AFP file sharing service with Samba 3.0 compatibility. We are hoping to have an AFP file sharing daemon which can run in parallel with Samba 3.0 to provide seemless file sharing amoungst SMB-based clients (Windows and MacOS-X) as well as

Quotas and Netatalk Support ?
I've just noticed that --with-netatalk and --with-quotas are options to configure for samba. Is anyone using these options on Solaris 7, and what do they do and how well ? I'd really like to display a users quota as "disk size" and their remaining space as "disk free". Is --with-quotas the right way to go about this ? I also run netatalk. Do I need to use

move from netatalk to samba + vfsfruit
since "ea = samba" was only added to very recent netatalk versions and so don't apply to files with a history of many years what is the way to go get rid of netatalk these days? is there still no tool to read/write the existing netatalk appladouble extended attributes which are *not* compatible with samba and write them back in the new format? afp.conf: appledouble = ea ea = samba

Hi all, I'm have a Linux Box running samba and netatalk, and a file system shared with Mac and Windows users. My problem is that when a user in Windows delete a file that have a Macintosh label (color), and later the Windows user put another version of the file with the same name, the Macintosh label still apear (and this is not the behavior that i need). I view in the file system that

Mac OS X canonically decomposed UTF-16 filenames
Hi. I'd like to find some way for Samba to convert the filenames created by Macintosh OS X into something windows can use. According to their docs: http://developer.apple.com/techpubs/macosx/Essentials/SystemOverview/FileSystem/chapter_9_section_13.html filenames are stored as canonically decomposed Unicode 2.1 in UTF-16 format (a sequence of 16-bit codes) Samba running on a

Samba + Netatalk troubles
I've got a file server running both Samba and Netatalk ([OT] which are two programs that dearly need to be rolled into one). I've *tried* to configure it to minimize problems between the two, but I've run into a problem where users can't delete folders that contain, e.g., .AppleDouble folders in them. When I try from smbclient, I get: NT_STATUS_DIRECTORY_NOT_EMPTY removing

Testing kernel and xfs/netatalk
I recently took over a x86_64 CentOS 4.0 server running an "unsupported" kernel. On examining the box it seems that perhaps it is because of the use of xfs and netatalk. I would like to update the box to 4.3. I think I can do away with the netatalk, but doing away with xfs would require a substantial amount of work. Questions: 1: In reading the archive of this list there was a post

Samba And Macintosh(netatalk)
Hello, Anyone out there running a production network supporting PC and Macintosh clients using samba and netatalk. we are currently using NT 4.0 with AppleTalk-IP software. Sharing the same files with the Macs and the pc is a must. I read someplace that samba 2.2.2 supports Appletalk. Is this true? Thanks, Joe

vfs_fruit: xattr imcompatible with netatalk
Hi. I'm testing samba 4.2.0 vfs_fruit on Fedora Server 22-alpha. I confirmed that ResourceFork and FinderInfo are compatible with Netatalk 3.1.7. However, EAs are incompatible. The character ":" in EA name is wrong. The EAs are not seen from clients. smb.conf: [test2] path = /export/test2 writable = yes vfs objects = catia fruit streams_xattr fruit:locking =

netatalk & Sambas' winbind
Hi, I've got a SuSE 9.0 running Samba 3.0.1 and Netatalk 1.6.3 Samba is a member server of a win2k domain, I'm using winbind to authnticate my users. Well, with the Windows users, everything is ok. But not with the Mac users I'd like to setup Netatalk to authenticate my Macs against the win2k domain as with Windows. Is this possible? I've sarched the web all around and

AppleTalk(netatalk)+Samba
