samba pdc and winbindd on same server?
If this question has been asked and answered, I am sorry but I searched and could not find it. Is it possible to have a samba PDC on the same server as a winbindd pointing to that samba PDC. The reason I want to do this is that I want the capability winbindd provides for a single sign on for things UNIX and the samba PDC for all things Windows. I don't want to have to run two boxes (if I

Joining PDC w/LDAP Question
Should I be required to add the machine to my passwd file even if I am using LDAP when joining a W2K domain domain? The only way I can get a machine to join my Samba PDC is via the following commands. # /usr/sbin/useradd -g 100 -d /dev/null -c "asa" -s /bin/false asa$ # smbpasswd -a -m asa I thought that using ldapsam would lookup all machine information from LDAP without having to

Doubts about Winbindd
Hi, I'm trying to set up a PDC using Samba on a Linux server. I need to the linux clients, using KDE desktop, log in the PDC using the KDE login box. I think I could use the 'winbindd' to do what I need but, I still have some questions: 1. Do I need to set up winbindd on each Linux client to log on the Linux PDC ? 2. Do I need to set up winbindd on the Linux PDC

Making winbindd and pam_mount play nice together (2nd try)
We're trying to set up linux based workstations that use a win2k AD/DC for authentication, and pam_mount to mount a share as the user's home directory. It looks like winbind isn't passing on the credentials (although it is getting us logged in). If anyone has made this work, I'd love the details. It looks like winbind isn't passing the auth information thanks jim

Samba 3.0 and Active Directory Replication
I have been following the development ot Samba 3.0 with great interest. There is something that still confuses me. Can Samba 3.0 join a Windows 2000 network as a domain controller and replicate Active Directory information with existing Windows 2000 domain controllers? If Samba 3.0 is the only domain controller on a network with Windows 2000/XP clients, will the clients see it as a domain

Strange winbindd situation
I set up winbindd last week on my Linux workstation. So far it's been working just fine and I've been enjoying the benefits of being able to connect to it with my NT user account. However, last week I noticed that there were two or three new NT users in my '/home/winnt/DOMAIN' directory that I *HADN'T* logged into this system with. I chalked it up to a potential virus or

PAM/winbindd/smb_pass/pam_smb_auth/smb_ntdom to authenticate SSH
Hello, I'm currently running winbind (from Samba 2.2.3a) so that our Windows users can ssh into our Linux box. I've set up Samba, PAM and winbind, and it's working well. Users can see their files, and they can log in using their windows usernames. No problem. When users access their Samba share, they don't need to reauthenticate, because they've already done so with the

NT user name doesn't match unix username when winbindd is running
We are testing winbind and security=domain to authenticate NT users on our UNIX box in samba (v2.2.3a). Winbind is working correctly. Wbinfo shows users as domainname+username (we are using "+" as the separator), however, the NT usernames aren't automatically mapping to their corresponding UNIX usernames as expected. Perhaps I don't understand how this is supposed to work?

Default domain for winbindd?
Hello once again, I've got winbind doing authentication not just for the samba service but also sshd and login. It's great. However, I have to give a fully-qualified username (e.g. "GENEEDINC+chris.palmer") as the username when logging in via these methods. I wondered, Is there any way to get winbindd to insert the domain and the separator for the user, when none is provided? I

How are people managing startup/shutdown of winbindd?
Greetings, I realize many people will never use winbindd, and thus it will likely not get included in /etc/init.d/samba (on my Debian system; your file may vary) by default, so another solution seems in order. It's not as important to be able to start and stop winbindd now that it's getting more robust, but I'd still like something. How are y'all out there in Samba land

Unofficial Samba+ACL howto
Hi all, As promised, I have started a howto document on setting up Samba with NT ACL support, based on experiences in my workplace, as documentation for this seems to be on the short side at the moment. It is available at the following address: http://www.bluelightning.org/linux/samba_acl_howto I have yet to convert it to proper DocBook format, and it needs more material (probably

Migrating from Samba2.2.8a+LDAP+PDC to Samba3+ldapsam
Hi, and thanks in advance for your support (sorry my english) Is there any documentation for migrating Samba 2.2 with LDAP and PDC suport to Samba3 with PDC and LDAPSAM? I try to explain the situation: Only one server running Mandrake 9.2 + Samba 2.2.8a with ldap support (from precompiled contrib); and I wish to migrate to Samba3+LDAPSAM. My real problem is that I must use ldap because I also use

XP Joining Samba Domain
I have successfully joined the XP machine to the domain. The strange part is, that it only wanted to be joined if it connected to the PDC and not the BDC. The way it is set-up is that the XP machine and a BDC is in one branch and the PDC is in another. Every time I would try to connect via the BDC, it would return a value ACCESS DENIED I stopped the smb service on the BDC, and got it to

Winbindd and SSH (just disconnects after login)
It looks like I've gotten the majority of things working in regards to Winbind. Users are being authenticated by the NT4 PDC when connecting to shares, but I can't seem to get things set up correctly to allow logging in via SSH(OpenSSH_3.6.1p2, SSH protocols 1.5/2.0, OpenSSL 0x0090702f). It appears as though I'm successfully authenticated by the PDC, but then the connection is

supress access to the /etc/passwd
Hi, I've just install samba 2.2 with ldap support, it is working just fine. I've create some samba users using smbpasswd and they are inserted into the ldap directory. But, I was wondering if it was possible to delegate the full authentification process to ldap. That's to say completely remove any information from /etc/passwd? Thanks. -------------- next part -------------- HTML

How to setup Winbindd:
Thanks for any information and your time!!! I have been working on getting my samba 2.2.5 server to work with my 2K domain in (native mode). Setup is on a RH 7.3 system with two NIC's one on a Internet network the other is for the LAN. What I need is to get the XP/2K/4.0 systems to see the samba shares and us them based on the users and groups that are on the domain. This is a 2K AD
