Samba running as PDC and BDC
I am in the process of investigating whether it's viable to replace our NT
server domain with a linux server domain using SAMBA. The key is if Samba
can act as a PDC, with other Samba BDCs in remote locations. Is this
possible?

Question about new Samba 3 rc4 and BDC
I have looked a bit through some of the archives for this list, and I have
caught different ideas on this matter.. I've also read through the
HOWTOs on how to do this stuff, but I haven't received the same results
that I was expecting, so I need someone to help me out a bit, give me a
definite YES or NO and if YES, how?
I have the latest release candidate of samba 3 installed on redhat-9.

Using WINBIND and the latest samba 3
I've been tooling with this for a while, and I need some help... please!!
:)
Here's what I'm trying to do. I want a samba server to work with winbind,
so that when I type 'getent passwd' it shows a list of local users, as
well as my domain user list. I want a user to be able to ssh into the
machine using their NT 4 domain username, like domain\username. That's
pretty

Use of geometric mean .. in good data analysis
Ah.... LOD's, typically LLOD's ("lower limits of detection").
Disclaimer: I am *NOT* in any sense an expert on such matters. What follows
are just some comments based on my personal experience. Please filter
accordingly. Also, while I kept it on list as Martin suggested it might be
useful to do so, most folks probably can safely ignore the rant that

FW: Samba and Windows 2000 Password Authentication - Here is the Answer.
To Samba Users Group:
I posted the message below, and a member of the group called me and talked
me through the problem. The solution is at the bottom of the page.

Use of geometric mean .. in good data analysis
Still OT... but here is my own (I think previously mentioned here) rant on people thrashing about with log transformation and an all-too-common kludge to deal with zeros mixed among small numbers... https://gist.github.com/jdnewmil/99301a88de702ad2fcbaef33326b08b4
OP perhaps posting a link here to your question posed wherever you end up with it will help shorten this thread.

Modify but not create permissions
I am still trying to figure out why samba wont let me create in subdirectories
I've tripple checked everything and a few things leapt out at me.
*) I can modify a file inside a directory that I cannot create a file in. I
did not know it was possible under linux to do that.
*) If I set all perms on 777 I can create. But neither 775 or 755 will allow
it.
*) When I go into a mount

Cant create in a subdirectory...
I've battled this one for a few days now and its costing my sanity so I am
hoping that someone here has an answer
I am running the samba server 3.0.4 on a linux 2.4.25 server.
I can connect to my share point and authenticate fine
I can create files or directories in the root of the sharepoint fine
I can go into subdirectories and look at all the files...
But I cannot create in any

Question from Argentina
Dear Friends,
I am new to this mailing list. I am with the National University of
Rosario, Argentina, and I am writing a book on software-based
acoustical measurements, which includes a chapter on FLAC for
archival and streaming purposes from an remote embedded system
including a sensor.
I would like to ask why the seekpoint information in the seek table
metadata block reserves 64 bit for

[help]: VPID tagged TLBs question.
Hi,
(Assume VPID is available and enabled.)
I''m trying to figure the TLB stuff with VPIDs. I understand from the
poorly written chapter in the intel manual that if an HVM vcpu is running
then only the TLBs tagged with the vcpu.VPID will be used. If xen
or a PV guest is running, then VPID 0 TLBs are what will be used.
Now I understand the hvm_asid_flush_vcpu upon new guest cr3, will

WINS server
Hi all. Ok, I'm sufficiently pissed off now. Hopefully someone can help.
Since I have no NT4 servers on the network, I'd like to be domain master,
and a wins server. So I've added the following to the global section:
local master = yes
os level = 33
domain master = yes
preferred master = yes
wins support = yes
And now I receive the following message:

Help: can't get winbindd working ?
Could anyone give me some hint on how to get winbindd working ?
I have added the following to smb.conf , called smbpasswd to join the
domain
and got security=domain working.
security = domain
encrypt passwords = yes
workgroup = MYDOMAIN
password server = x.x.x.x
But when I try to use winbindd, even if I followed the man page
instruction and did the following:

Asterisk phone system plan - for review!
Hi all,
I would be most grateful if someone would review my plans for my
new phone system and comment on areas of expected trouble and
advice on what to do better. Instead of moving our Panasonic
KX-TD1232/TVS200 system (ugh...) to our new location, we've
decided to jump into IP telephony with *. But we are new to *
(but not Linux), so we're trying to learn as much as we can

Instiki 0.11.0 - ActiveRecord Forever
Dear all,
If you thought Instiki was a dead project, you were right. Since I''ve got a day job that doesn''t suck
(Official Ruby Zealot of ThoughtWorks Canada), my motivation to do open source greatly sufferred :)
But... but... but! Here is Instiki 0.11.0, and in this version Instiki is (finally!) moving to ActiveRecord backend
and (finally!) has the File Upload feature.

echo with spa-3000
More an echo algorithm question than a purely asterisk one...
I have the following setup:
Handset - PAP2 - Asterisk - SPA3000 - Telco
And no matter what I do, I get echo on a call routed out via the PSTN
when I talk into the handset, in the order of a hundred ms (my estimate,
could be wildly inaccurate!). Echo will occur also when I have a handset
plugged into the phone port on the SPA3000

A model for possibly periodic data with varying amplitude [repost, much edited]
Hi dear R community,
I have up to 12 measures of a protein for each of 6 patients, taken
every two or three days. The pattern of the protein looks periodic,
but the height of the peaks is highly variable. I'm testing for
periodicity using a Monte Carlo simulation envelope approach applied
to a cumulative periodogram. Now I want to predict the location of
the peaks in time. Of course, the

How to fit Oggs in a specific amount of space?
I took 5 albums (Classical music) and converted them to Ogg Vorbis
at "Full Bitrate" (-q10) and all 5 directories take up about 775 Megs
which won't fit on a CD. So I ripped them again in WAV first (And
give my friend back his CDs) but now I wanna know what quality
setting should I use to fit them on 1 CD (The highest possible with
total space used just under 700 Megs)
