settings ACLs is slooooow
Hi, I need to set ACLs on a samba server, and are using icacls in Win7. It takes several hours to edit an ACL with inheritance, affecting a directory tree with 300,000 files. Server cpu > 70%, client cpu < 20%. Is there a way how I can speed this up? Using "setfattr -R" in Linux does it in approximately 2 minutes, but I want real Windows ACLs. There are 300.000 files in a

$$ is slooooow in IE
While $$ and getElementsByClassName are ridiculously speedy in Firefox (thanks to XPath), I''m finding both functions to be intolerably slow in IE. The page I''m working with has fewer than 1000 elements -- doesn''t seem THAT big -- and it''s still taking upwards of 4 seconds (!) to pick out the right ones. Are there documented problems with particular

Semi-OT: An idea for New Orleanstemporarycommunications infrastructure
Great idea Dean, "I would also suggest that maybe instead of looking to set up within the disaster zones that you consider setting up in the relocation zone (eg where people are being sent to) yes they have payphones there but having a bank of 20 grandstream phones connected a T1 is a far smarter and more effective solution and probably more meaningful." > -----Original Message-----

Contact Directory on Polycom IP-501 phones
I'm testing out some IP501 phones and I ran into an issue. WHen I try to add a new contact into the directory, I am not able to. A window blinks really fast but the entry isn't saved. When you exit the Contact Directory system you get a 'Busy! Please try again' window. What the heck could be going on? -- Jesse Keating GameHouse -- Systems Engineer

wireless question
I've had no luck with getting a wireless card to work. Before I go buy another card, I wanted to see if there is a way I could do this instead. I've got a second wireless router that I'm not using right now. So I would like to find out if there is a way I can make this work. I was thinking about connecting the second wireless router to my pc through the ethernet port, and let the

x-lite with wireless connection
Hello This might not be a 'pure' * question, but it is relevant to general VOIP technology. I tried x-lite on my notebook with wireless connection(802.11). The software has been tested with the fixed line connection. It worked fine to call through *. When using wireless connection, it is clear on my side using notebook; however, there is loud noise on the other side of the call which uses

Windows Xp / Icecast 2.3.1 / Oddcast 3 / Crap Router?
Ok here's the deal. I set up Icecast and Oddcast, got them to communicate properly, but cannot access the live audio remotely. On other computers in the LAN it works perfetly. Currently I operate wirelessly behind a D-Link 514 router (a mite outdated by now, yes?) and have opened all necessary ports, turned my firewalls off, set this computer as a DMZ, pretty much everything I can think of -

Samba and Terminal Server Whitepaper
Attached is a 500KB read-only .doc file with a Samba and Terminal Server whitepaper. I have tried to hit every known issue and all available workarounds. If anyone has comments or suggestions, let me know. JT has it, so it should end up in the next How-To. Sorry about the file format, but the .pdf was 2.5MB, which I thought was too big to post. SSH question
On my logwatch that I have emailed to me, I see a line where I'm showed logging in via a known ip address, and when I log in from my laptop through my EV-DO card wirelessly, the computer show log in as ok, but it can not translate the ip from the aircard and marks the log in as a possible hack attempt. How do you go in and set a network subnet as a valid ip block and not an attack attempt?

Old linuxbox as BwM
Hello, I''m playing with tc, htb, and other QoS features on an old pc I have. The PC runs, by now, a shrinked version of Debian Woody, with patched versions of kernel 2.4.18 and iproute in order to support HTB. What i''m wondering is if with a AMD 100Mhz (stealed from a museum ;-), 16Mbps RAM i can do bandwidth management to 20 network hosts, which connect wirelessly (not all,

Reverse engineering USB devices
I'm pretty sure this is the wrong list, but maybe some clever people here can redirect me... I have a "RCA RS2100 Bookshelf Audio System" http://www.woot.com/blog/viewentry.aspx?id=2744 This is radio/CD/mp3 player... PLUS it can stream audio wirelessly. You plug a USB device into your PC and you can remote control what gets played from the RS2100 remote control ("Wireless

r8712u wireless driver
I've just installed centos 6.3 for the first time on a test machine and couldn't be happier - except that a critical wireless adapter driver is missing - the r8712u. I would love to convert my mythtv machine from Fedora 17 to centos 6.3 to put all that chaos and instability behind me. My mythtv machine connects only wirelessly to the rest of my network and uses a Rosewill RNX-N180UBE USB

"Cipher = none" doesn't seem to be working properly
I have a simple pair of nodes set up, connected wirelessly, with tincd 1.0.16 running in switch mode. Setting Cipher and Digest to "none", and Compression to 0, the bridge is still CPU-bound, with most of tincd's CPU time spent in libcrypto. I narrowed it down to this line in net_setup.c: myself->connection->outcipher = EVP_bf_ofb(); It looks as though all outgoing data is

Netlogon script executes randomly
Hi, I have set up Samba 3.0.2a on my Debian server as a PDC. I use a Windows XP Pro laptop to log on wirelessly, and things seems to be working fine except with the logon.bat script. I have added "logon script = logon.bat" and the netlogon share in my smb.conf. The logon.bat has executed a few times (perhaps 10% of the times), but there is obviously a problem. The logon.bat is

Asterisk not answering calls since oh323 upgrade
Hi I've been running asterisk for a year or so now, and recently upgraded to the lastest CVS-HEAD version along with oh323 v0.7.1. (previously oh323 version 0.6.3 used to crash about once per week during high call volumes). Since upgrading, however, asterisk seems unable to successfully receive h323 calls. Previously, an incoming h323 call would be answered by asterisk and show:
