how to create NTConfig.POL?
Is there a way to create an NTConfig.POL file without having access to an NT4, w2k or w2k3 server? Is there a way to do it in linux? Or a winxp/9x workstation?

Spec''ing ApplicationController
Folks, I''d like to spec the behaviors that I''m adding to ApplicationController. Specifically, I''m adding: def authenticated? session[:username] != nil end I described ApplicationController, but couldn''t figure out how to call the authenticated method. I''m probably going about this quite wrongly and would appreciate any hints? Thanks, Scott --

spec''ing models with observers that send mail
I''m spec''ing a model with an observer that sends mail. Mailers behave similarly to controllers, so to make the whole thing work, I believe something like integrate_views has to be available. Has anyone dealt with observers and ActionMailer? Thanks

acts_as_list not CASCADE''ing in singular n-tier model structure
[using RAILs 1.1.2] Has anyone else seen issues where multiple tiered "acts_as_list" models do not CASCADE delete correctly? For instance, I have 4 models, the first 3 in the hierarchy have the appropriate "have_many" declarations with "exclusively_dependent => true". The last the models have the appropriate "acts_as_list" with the correct scope

DNAT''ing and iproute
-- Can someone please give an example or two how one might accomplish DNAT''ing and ip routes? It appears that the de''DNAT''ing takes place after the routing decisions so when I use something like ip rule from incoming-address table out-route it just doesn''t seem to ever route anything out. DNAT doesn''t seem to keep track of the incoming

libwrap-ing IMAP and POP logins
Since I've been using this for maybe a year now, maybe someone else is interested in restricting IMAP and POP logins via libwrap. In addition to the attached patch (against 1.0.5) to src/login-common/main.c, src/{imap,pop3}-login/Makefile.in have to be modified to link against libwrap. Of course, the option needs to be integrated into configure in the long run. -------------- next part

Problem with factor state when subset()ing a data frame
The solution to most "factors" questions on the R mailing list is to set the global option stringsAsFactors to F. Make it your part of your default R startup. Even better, do what we have done at Mayo for the last 10+ years and make it the default for your whole unit. (150+ users, 20+ years of S experience). We were one of the groups that whined to Insightful until they added this

Ok it's now Solved ! rsync-ing on MacOS X.
Hi all, I'm setting up a backup script for my Mac, and I'm wondering about the rsync ability of dealing with HFS+ filesystem (resource-fork and such...). I've searched the mailing list archive for this topic and I've found some thread regarding it, but it's not clear to me what is the actual situation. Is the HFS+ officially supported? Will it be in the near future?
