getent showing wrong gids af
The only thing I know is that tdb files are Trivial DataBase files. So it's a database used by samba to persistently store stuff. The file I was refering to accidentally had "winbind" and "id" in its name, so I just deleted it to see what it gives. Seems I made the right choice. I have no idea how to view these files though. Maybe someone on the list knows?

Samba Resources Hog
Hi, I have a Linux box with 512MB RAM and running Samba 2.2.7. I noticed that memory is constantly decreasing when I typed free. If I run ps aux, I see that more and more samba sessions are opened, some by root and some by users. Is this normal? Won't Samba close unused sessions before opening new sessions? Or is this a memory leak somewhere. Regards, Norman

Sorry all, this is the missing email that I referred to previously. I inadvertently sent it only to the original poster rather than the list. Sorry for the wasted b/w for those who don''t care... Samba Shares and Win32 Viruses
Hi Collective users of Samba, (does has a nice ring to it eh?) Recently I found a my samba server being infected by win32 viruses. Though it does not affect the server in any way, I do find them to be an annoyance. I understand also that I can perform "veto" of files like *.exe in smb.conf but find that to be a wee bit restrictive. There are some users who stores valid executables in

Below are the details LInux

Can't find samba server after new NIC installed
Hi All, Perhaps you guys can help me shed some light on this 'problem' I'm facing. I recently added another NIC to my samba server. eth0(10.0.0.251) and eth1(valid dhcp address) ETH0 was added to connect to another PC that acts as the backup server. (dedicated connection) Now, Samba won't come back up.. I can still ssh into the server and all. Any ideas? I know that the wins

MSSql Connections cannot be established
Hi All, I''m using shorewall on my laptop(2 NIC) to connect my desktop to the Internal LAN. For some reason, MS''s SQL query analyser is not able to connect to the SQL server. I alway get the "Server does not exist" I even tried to connect to it using IP address rather than netbios name and it still doesn''t work. All of the access is fine. (eg: WEB/ping etc)

samba & exchange
Hi, I'm thinking of implementing Samba as a file and print server. But I have an Exchange on a PDC. Can they both coexist in a same network? What's the best way that I can implement this, so users can login and use Samba as their file/print server as well as use Exchange? Regards, Norman

RED/GRED implementation for InBound Traffic Control (from ISP)
Hi all, Can anyone show me pointers on how to get this implemented on a Linux box with tc rules? I also want to know, just how efficient is this Algorithm. AFAIK, inbound traffic control can''t really be achieved without losing bandwidth. In some of the howtos'' I''ve read, one guy had to limit his downspeed to 1/2 his bandwidth to actually control it. And he was saying

acl resource
Hi, I'm confused of where to set ACL? Do I set them in SWAT under Security Options (using Valid Users, Force Group, ..., etc.)? Or do I need to hardcoded them with setfacl? Or set them in NT client? Please direct me to the references? I already have xfs, acl, attr, compiled in. Regards, Norman
