Automatic Windows Patch Deployment (OS Agnostic)
A month ago I mentioned on this list work on a automated package
deployment tool for Windows systems, which is server agnostic. At the
time, I didn't have the time to put it up in a place for public
consumption. I do now.
The utility is named wpkg (punny isn't it?) It's nothing more than a
simple .js (jscript) file which needs to be run on Windows, from a
directory containing three

PDC and concurrent logins
Hello!
I am using samba running as a PDC at our school. I have read many docs and
howtos but I can't find anything about Concurrent logins. I would be a
nice feature becouse I don't want my users to login more than one time. Is
there anyone that does have a clue?
Greetings from Sweden

XP and Samba
Hello Everyone,
I have a question about what I need to know to configure windows XP to work with a samba share?
Are there any resources out now that explain how to configure samba and XP to work together?
Thanks for the information,

WPKG
Just wondering if anybody out there actually downloaded and got my Wpkg
utility working. I'd like to hear what people think about it. Not having
a progect page for it and all doesn't make that easy. Hmm. Maybe i'll
set up a sourceforge page.
Anyways, anybody using it?

smbmount question
Hi,
I'm running Linux 2.2.2 w/ Samba 2.0.2, using the smbmount that comes with
Samba 2.0.2. I noticed that when I mount shares, smbmount sticks around,
almost like a daemon:
[root@jason /root]# smbmount //XXXX.gatech.edu/XXXX$ "XXXXXX" -U jkau
-c "mount /mnt/cnd" < /dev/null > /tmp/smbmount.out
[root@jason /root]# ps ax | grep smbmount

problems with msdfs
We did some tests with msdfs on HP/UX with samba version 2.2.1.a and we
found a strange
problem.
We create a msdfs root on a HP/UX system with samba version 2.2.1.a and
create a link
in it to an HP/UX system with samba version 2.0.7.
We mapped the link in the msdfs root on a NT4 system to drive F.
The share contains the source of samba and in explorer we went to :

Using MSDFS
I've set up a dfs share according to instructions. There is one part of the instructions that I don't understand. I've checked the forum archives but can't find any examples which might help.
In the Instructions section (4.1 of the HTML Samba Project Documentation), is shows how to set up the symbolic links in a DFS share, as shown below.
I have 2 Samba servers (SMB1 and SMB2).

Roaming profiles with Samba3
Good morning everyone.
I wanted to ask the people on this list who are currently using roaming
profiles with samba 3 how it is working? I worked a little with roaming
profiles with 2.2.8a, but it was not working as well as I wanted it to and
im hoping that samba 3 roaming profiles are working pretty well.
Our network here is really calling for roaming profiles to be a major
option here. Our

Replacing WinNT 4 PDC with Samba PDC
Hi All!
Thanks to all of you that responded to my previous posts. I've gotten a lot
more info now than I used to have!
But I still have questions. The biggest right now is: Is there a way build
up a Samba PDC as a direct replacement for an existing Windows NT 4.0 PDC?
All the material I've found to date is written from a standpoint of creating
a new domain as you create the Samba

Wierd winbind results
Hi all,
I have a Samba 3 machine joined to a AD Child Domain, which is a member of a large forrest. The machine joined the AD domain fine and it can query/log in to it. However for some reason Winbind is showing incomplete information. wbinfo -g shows groups from every domain in the forrest as it should, though wbinfo -u does not, it shows some of the child domains but does not show accounts

Centos 6 Update?
All,
As much as I hate to ask, how is this project coming along? We are approaching the 4 month post-release point...

Wierd error while trying to join a domain
Platform: RHEL 3
Version: 3.02a
For some reason whenever I try to join our domain by using either RH's
binary or a custom compiled src.rpm, I get the following:
[root@bonair samba]# net join -U dchait
dchait password:
realm must be set in in smb.conf for ADS join to succeed.
ADS join did not work, falling back to RPC...

FW: smbmount question
Nevermind...need to read the whole msg...
I didn't notice you were installing WINS on
the NT box...hence the reboot.
Standard practice for Winxx:
1. Install, reboot
2. Update, reboot, repeat....
I support about 25 pc's-it annoys the hell
out of me how MS manages updates. How many
Internet Explorer security updates have there
been so far this year-22? Each one of them

ldap passwd sync
Having a bit of trouble understanding, or getting, "ldap passwd sync"
working.
I assume, setting it to Yes, would make it issue a change password
command to the ldap server, just like pam does, ldappasswd does, or any
other ldap program.
Right?
What does only do?

Samba Success Story
I'd like to thank the Samba team for making our switch off of Active
Directory amazingly smooth. We're a small company, only 30 desktops, but
things went great for us. Actually, nobody even notices the Windows DC
is even gone!
The Exchange migration that went along with this wasn't as hassle free
though. =(
It's really refreshing to be able to SSH into our file server and see

Failing Authentication
I am running Samba on a box serving a network of 30 clients, and 2 MS
SQL 2000 servers. The SQL servers are members of the domain, and use NT
authentication for connections and such.
For the most part, this works fine.
However, it seems that every now and then, pretty randomlly, NT
authentication is failing for these services. Errors returned are pretty
typical of DC-not-working problems:

Machine password change failed: stub received bad data
One of our workstations spit out the following error:
Could not change machine account password: the stub received bad data.
This sounds to me like a Samba problem... but it's a bit beyond me to
come up with an answer to. Any ideas where I should start?

3.0.0, password switching on it's own
This morning one of our employees came into us noting that W2K said
their password was invalid. It seemed to have changed on it's own. At
that time LM/NT passwords in LDAP were the following:
EE899DB29A5F1658AAD3B435B51404EE
62D7C4362BDB83A95BB28244BD9AF321
I made a note of them, and then changed the password using smbpasswd, to
the same thing that it should have already been. At this point
