Changing ACLs as administrator
One work-around would be to create a hidden share that only Domain Admins can access. The use "force user=root" on that share. Then you'll be able to change ACL's and not be root. Samba 3.0 and RedHat Linux 7.0?
Does the latest Samba 3.0 release still work on redHat 7.0? I really would like to know because after downloading, compiling and installing it, it exits on startup with the following message: /usr/local/samba/bin/smbd: error while loading shared libraries: unexpected reloc type 0x80 Compiled with options: ./configure --sbindir=/usr/local/samba/bin --with-logfilebase=/var/log/samba

Samba 3.0 won't join Samba-TNG domain
Hi, I posted this problem before in more detail (http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=samba&m=104756899022766&w=2) but received no response. At the current state of Smaba 3.0 and Samba-TNG these two seem to be incomaptible. Samba 3.0 can't join a TNG controlled domain. I think this should affect a lot of installations as TNG as a controller and "stable" as file/printserver seem

smbladp_conf shell opts
I'm setting up a smaba/ldap server and I'd really like "regular" samba users to not have local login privs. (LDAP will handle all unix and samba accounts.) So, to that end, I thought changing the options in smbldap.conf, specifically... userLoginShell="/bin/bash" to something like userLoginShell="/sbin/nologin" Is there some unanticipated impact that would

smbpasswd problem on Solaris-10
I have compiled both samba-3.0.25a and samba-3.0.25b and with both I have problems setting user password longer than 8 chars with smbpasswd. I get no errors, but if I try to set a password with more than 8 chars the password will only be generated using the first 8 chars. This is on Solaris-10 update 3 on amd64 and I have compiled samba using Sun Studio 11 compiler suite and no other options to

Idmap + LDAP + winbind: our first BDC - doubts about idmap ranges and winbbindd + Idmap dn
Hi, My doubt is about Idmap + LDAP + winbind, related do BDC + PDC. We are using Samba 3.0.33 (Slackware 12.0.0). Our layout is almost like this one http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/images/chap6-net.png, but we have more BLDGn than this example. Actually, we are taking ideas from http://us1.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html and from

smaba 3.0 - domain groups : OS info
I dont think its a OS problem, Im using suse 8.1. If you log into the windows box as root you can see the groups and the users in the groups. Any other user including domain admins can not. This would indicate that there is a problem with samba, either with ACLs accessing group information or passing group/user information from the system to a smbd process owned by a user other than root.

Fw: Samba 3.0-alpha 18 with ldapsam backend and primary gid of user?
Hi again, I just wanted to add this to make my information more complete: The id primary group id of user "eddie" in the ldap tree is 500:201. 201 is the group "Domain Users" But you have to know that user "eddie" also excists with id and gid 500:500 in the /etc/passwd and /etc/group files. Examining the log file below, this raises the following question to me: Is

is it possible to migrate to samba and keep existing SIDs?
Hello, I am using smaba-3.0beta3 on linux (RedHat 7.3). I noticed that 'net rpc vampire' does not retrieve the existing SIDs from the domain PDC, rather it creates new ones. This is a problem if users have files saved locally on their NT workstations, as the SIDs won't match after the migration to samba PDC. Is there a way to migrate from an NT PDC to a samba one and still
