Reading files form a server in windows
Hi,
I'm just wondering about file name syntax.
Instead of
stuff <- read.table("e:/statcourses/stuff.dat")
I'd like to be able to do
stuff <- read.table("ptolemy/statcourses/stuff.dat")
or
stuff <- read.table("ptolemy.math.waikato.ac.nz/statcourses/stuff.dat")
that is, I'd like to be able to read a file from a server without

People
Is there a way to map NT names to UNIX names when they are not the same. 95%
of our are which is great but we have a few that are different. For example,
we have NT user "bigboy" who's Unix account is "smallboy", how can I make an
association, oh learned 1's.
Thanks,
Jon :-)

calling files of commands in R
Please excuse me if this is a very basic question and I am just
misunderstanding the basic structure of R.
Right now, I am writing everything in a buffer (emacs) and then copying it
into R when it is correct. Is there a way to save a file of commands and
then just type the file name or something in R and have the commands executed
within R?

Thanks.

lines and legend
When I am trying to put a legend on a plot where I am using "lines", R just
ignores it. I can do it with boxplot or plot, but just not with lines. Am I
doing something wrong? Maybe I am just making a mistake?

Firewire question (Centos 4.4)
Assuming I have a firewire card with a supported chipset, is there
anything special I need to do in order for the kernel to recognize the
card? Shouldn't kudzu "wake up" and configure the card when I boot up
after installing it?
This is a brand spanking new 4.4 system and a supported Agere chipset
firewire card. I'm having trouble tickling devices connected to the
card.

Samba acting as a domain member + netbios
Okay the '%' were due to bad coy paste between the source code and a local smb.conf.
The samba is running on a minimal and embedded environment, which is why it must be built using buildroot.
It turns out that we might have been too restrictive with the samba libraries embedded in our environment.
I've solved this issue using latest version available in buildroot (4.19.3) and making

/boot partition or not on C5
hello,
the last 3 times I installed C5, the MBR was unchanged and nothing was written into /boot/grub except splash.xbm.gz
there were no stage* files, nor a menu.lst
I know how to fix that.
Would I have better luck using a partition mounted as /boot?
Anyone succeded with Grub that way? I prefer not having to do surgery to get C5 to boot :)

Samba acting as a domain member + netbios
I guess I should also do a backup of netlogon_creds_cli.tdb.
Is this enough or is there's something else recommended to avoid some bad corner cases?

Hello Asterisk-users,
I am new to Asterisk. I got SIP Calls to work between two computers using a

Unexpected IP resolution

Sorry in advance if I am not on the right mailing-list and sorry if my
question is cover somewhere is doc (I didn't find anything).
The result from nmblookup (same result on all platform) for a given

Samba acting as a domain member + netbios
Thanks for the advice about the security line, I won't use domain type anymore then.
I know name_status_find is using NetBios, what I don't know is why this function is called when using 'security = ads', and as a result of the fail my domain is added to the failed connection cache.
Then, every action that needs to have a look into the cache results in failing, and wbinfo -P

Samba can't find its hostname via broadcast
Hello.
I'm using Samba 3.0.25a on FreeBSD-6.0. Samba is configured to be a PDC.
Samba can't find its hostname via nmblookup:
$ nmblookup -B 192.168.1.255 frontier
querying frontier on 192.168.1.255
name_query failed to find name frontier
If I query Samba via unicast, it answers OK:
$ nmblookup -U frontier frontier
querying frontier on 192.168.1.31
192.168.1.31 frontier<00>

WINS querying (Advanced)
Hi all...
I need to make a few queries to WINS, but am unsure how to do so.
'nmblookup' will allow me to enter an IP address and get information about
the machine name, domain, and username. I want to do the opposite...I would
like to have a tool that will take a username and return the IP address.
I know this information is stored in WINS somehow, and I am capable of
writing some Perl
