Permissions on ou for net join to ADS
Hi I have noticed the following behaviour: If I get a kerberos ticket as a domain admin user using kinit and then do a net join to an ADS domain, then this works fine and net ads testjoin and net ads leave work too. However if I do it as a user with full control on a particular ou within the AD tree, net join gives the following: net join "/Global Administration/Samba Servers"

Trouble with 'NET ADS JOIN'
Hi All, Any clues as to what is causing this? I have seen similar questions asked before in regards to joining ADS domain but have not been able to find a solution to my problem. The domain is a Native mode ADS on win2k3 with signing required. Please let me know if additional info or logs are required to diagnose the problem. I did a 'net ads join ADSDOM -U

How can I minimize the memory usage of speex?
Hi, I am trying to implement Speex in freeRtos on LPC2138 (ARM7 core), to record about 10sec of voice. I like to compress the data by using Speex, because of the limitation of RAM (32KB). I have read that the speex encoder and decoder need less than 6KB RAM. "The fixed-point narrowband encoder+decoder memory use has been cut by more than half, making it possible to fit both in less than 6 kB

rid and uid on ldap pdc
Is the rid of a user required to be 2*uid+1000 in HEAD when using an ldap backend? Is it still necessary that users also exist in /etc/passwd? I'd like to replace NIS and win NT domain auth with ldap, and want to keep the current unix uid's and the NT rid's, so the migration is transparent to the end users. -david

Cant find uid=0
Im having a problem adding machines to a domain. All has been fine until today. This is the output when I try to add a machine (WinXP). It appears to be looking for a root user in my LDAP directory but isnt finding it (because there isnt a user 'root' there). User 'Administrator' exists. Must there be an instance of 'root' in Samba LDAP backends? I've ploughed through

What's happend when the UID/SID mapping changes for a computer account ?
Hi, Could you please tell me, what's happend when the UID/SID mapping changes for a computer account ? In my previous mail, I explain that suddenly every computers of my domain was unable to connect to our samba logon server. Before this problem, a 'net rpc vampire' was done to resynchronize the samba ldap-sam with the NT4 PDC, and samba has been restarted, I suspect that after

AD UID association
Hi, I'm planning a migration from a Microsoft Exchange Server to Linux+Sendmail+Samba. There are thousands of users in AD that should login via POP3 to receive their messages. It's working perfectly but I'll have to login each user so winbind could create UID association for each one of them (actually I'm doing it with wbinfo -a user%password). Of course I'll try

UID/SID mapping across PDC member servers?
Hi, I have a Samba 3.0 beta server set up as an NT Domain PDC (lets call it box S), a Windows 2000 client (box W) and a Linux member server in the domain (box L). All are configured as per the most recent 3.0/HEAD howto. S and L have the same users with same UIDs and login names in /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow. When browsing the domain from W, I can access all the shares on S and L. On S I can

incorrect rpcclient usage
The usage for the "rpcclient" command shows: Usage: rpcclient server [options] However, (on HPUX 11 anyway) it only works as: Usage: rpcclient [options] server Looking in the source, it is because the "getopts" is ran first before the server name is extracted from the command line arguments. I don't know if "getopts" ignors non-args on other platforms, but

IDMAP usage
Hi, all I have a ldap server where I have defined all of my linux users and groups. I'd like to store the SID<->(UID,GID) mapping there too using idmap, but I don't know how to configure a directory entry to handle idmap storage. I couldn't find how to do it in Samba-Howto-Collection (6th June 2003) and the man pages seems to be incomplete. If someone have done it, I'll

AD SAMBA Kerberos participation with other AD Kerberised services
Hi All, anyone else found that adding a Samba server to an AD domain appears to be incompatible with using an AD Kerberos realm to provide other Kerberised services such as NFS from the same UNIX host? Problem I have is that when you join an AD domain thorough Samba 3.x net command this creates a computer account in the AD to which the administrator does not know the account password. If you

Strange UID/GID mapping in Samba-3beta1 and Win2003 server
I have strange uid/gid problem. I am testing Samba 3-beta1 and Samba is ADS member to W2003 server. Everythings work, wbinfo, getent passwd and so on. Now to the problem: When I list the users with getent passwd I get: Administrator:x:10000:10000:Administrator:/global/mnt1/SAMBA/home/TEST.SE/administrator:/bin/sh Guest:x:10001:10002:Guest:/global/mnt1/SAMBA/home/TEST.SE/guest:/bin/sh

Active DNS registration on join realm?
Dear Samba members, I am wondering if on joining a realm (with security=ADS), samba 3.x server gets automatically registered with MS Dynamic DNS server. My test with Samba 3.0.14a on linux did not reveal any such capability. But may be because I did not use the correct option? I would appreciate any help. Thanks in advance, -Arup Biswas
