Username map and UNIX UID assignments
I'm testing Samba 2.2.5 with winbind. I can successfully authenticate
domain users who do and don't have corresponding UNIX accounts as well as
domain users who do have a UNIX account. Files created from PC side by
usera show up in UNIX "ls -l" as owned by usera so I thought the automatic
username mapping was working correctly, but I found out that usera isn't

Problem with yppasswd ans openssh on Irix
Hi,
I compiled openssh 2.1.1p1 on Irix 6.2 with MIPS 7.2.1.2m compiler. All
works fine except the yppasswd command from Irix (it's no NIS-problem,
same with rlogin works):

Can't Write to Samba Share
Can anyone help me to figure out why I can not write to a share? I was able to join the domain without a problem, and I can read the share from an xp box. I just cannot write to it: "Access denied".

Winbind in Samba 2.2.5 not automatically mapping the NT users with corresponding UNIX accounts
Have you tried in smb.conf
username map = /usr/local/samba/lib/domainuser.map
winbind use default domain = no
For every user you have to create an entry in the
/usr/local/samba/lib/domainuser.map, that looks like
<unixusername> = "<domainname>+<username>"
I?m using a script that generates the domainuser.map automaticly, because
our users are using NIS

rsync : old file dates generating error during nfs rsync session: Value Too large for defined data type
I was troubleshooting a problem we were having with some files not rsyncing
properly over an nfs mount (the destination device is a snapserver (NAS)
that did not have native ability to receive streaming rsync info, that's why
we were doing this rsync over an NFS connection to the snapserver).
Anyway, at first I thought this was just one of the quirks of the snapserver

Group permissions issue migrating from 2.2.8a to 3.0.23a
Hi,
I have a share that worked fine in samba 2.2.8a, users were able to read and
write to the share, and edit files. After migrating to 3.0.23a, users are no
longer able to edit existing files.
Samba 2.2.8a config:

NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
I am running Fedora 11 and trying to set up Samba. I've succeeded in setting
up the network printer.
I am able to go only to this stage: Place--> Network--> Windows Network
Do you have any suggestion? Here is what I get when I do troubleshoot.
I get the message in the tile when I do:

Username map and UNIX UID assignments - my findings
Background:
I'm trying to make sure my Unix and NT users are being assigned the correct
UID from both platforms so they own files correctly from both sides. I was
hoping to avoid username maps since our users with cross platform access
already have matching usernames on both sides (or will when we reconfigure).
I've been playing with several parameters, and fixed some things, but I

perhaps you can shed some light. I suddenly can't get past the

RE: Can you assist me? I have seen yours and Jennifer Fountains corr espondence
1. What version of samba? You should be trying 2.2.5 or 2.2 6 for one of
the more stable winbind releases.
2. Are you running NIS? Try changing the winbind separator to _
(underscore)
3.. Did you put winbind in your nsswitch.conf file? If so, did you force
the system to re-read that info (happens automatically on solaris, must
run nsadmin restart on Irix, don't know about other

How do I change samba password from windows in sarge
Hi folks,
we have a lan with win and linux clients (pcs work alternating between
win and linux-ubuntu, server is sarge). Authentication in linux works
with nis. Therefore I substituted passwd by yppasswd. How can y realize
password changes in win to get the linux (yp) and the samba password
changed in one step?
By the way: do I have to substitute passwd by yppasswd on the server too?
Thanks

rmdir bug?
Samba Developers--
I have a share called pub. In that share, there is a folder that I want to
block access to. So, I chmoded it 0700 and chowned it root. In my smb.conf
file, I set the "guest account" parameter to "netshare", an unprivialized
user. I also set the "guest only" parameter to "yes" No remote computer
can "cd" into the directory,

Server is not using PAM and is a ypclient.
Client PC's are DOS 6.20 with MS Client 3.0 and Windows 95.
I am having trouble changing passwords using the "net password \\<server>"
command from either DOS or Win95 command prompt. Changing passwords worked fine
using Samba 17p3.

PDC, NIS and password sync.
Hi.
I have for a while been trying to get my samba 2.2.1a PDC to be a NIS master
and still maintain the password sync feature, without any luck.
Now I made something that seems to work - but I would like to get your input
to see if what I do is ok or it is something I should'nt do.
1: Samba uses passwd to sync the password (not yppasswd)
2: cron runs make in /var/yp every 15 minutes to

Constructing bar charts with standard error bars
I am new to R.
I want to graph group data using a "Traditional Bar Chart with Standard
Error Bar", like the kind shown here:
http://samiam.colorado.edu/~mcclella/ftep/twoGroups/twoGroupGraphs.html
Is there a simple way to do this?
So far, I have only figured out how to plot the bars using barplot.
testdata <- scan(, list(group=0,xbar=0,se=0))

Samba 3.0.2suse (9.1) and dos file attributes (ro/hidden/system)
Good time of a day.
I have a problem with samba 3.0.2suse and dos file attributes.
Users (winxp,2k,98) cannot change ReadOnly file attrib on files that
don't belong to them.
Example:
user1 in group main create file test, he can change file attr or
date/time, but user2 from the same group main can not.
Sorry for my bad english.
Here is my smb.conf:
