Using WINBIND and the latest samba 3
I've been tooling with this for a while, and I need some help... please!! :) Here's what I'm trying to do. I want a samba server to work with winbind, so that when I type 'getent passwd' it shows a list of local users, as well as my domain user list. I want a user to be able to ssh into the machine using their NT 4 domain username, like domain\username. That's pretty

Odd behavior of winbind
Hi, I have an odd problem with winbind. I use it for, among other thing, nsswitch user resolution. I believe it have a problem with accessing information for a single user, or with caching. When I request info for a specific user, it fail (trying to login also fail with NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER). But it work when I request info for all users. And then, login and getent for single account start

Inefficient Winbind behavior? Not sure if it posted 1st time.
Hello all, I'm having an issue with Winbind and I'm not sure if it's occurring by design or not. My Samba server resides in a Windows NT domain and uses winbindd to authenticate to a mixed-mode 2003 domain over a trust relationship. Everything works the way it ought to. However, every so often my users experience delays of anywhere from 30 to 60 seconds when connecting to a share,

[LLVMdev] Mips nomicromips?
Hi, I've decided to switch from the NetBSD standard library to the musl library (http://www.etalabs.net/musl/) for my ELLCC (http://ellcc.org) cross compiler project. During my musl feasability study I made a Mips port of musl. A day or two ago, just to make things interesting, I updated to the LLVM TOT (r158294). I started getting assembler warnings about ".set nomicromips".

searching for assistance
Hello! I'm quite unsure, if i'm right here with this question... I've a customer with a IVR-based PrePaidSystem (DTMF-control, MySQL) which he wants to port from dialogic/envox on ISDN to a SIP solution. I think this should be solvable by an asterisk-solution - but i have far too low insight. I will need assistance in planning and deciding about feasability and also later in

Migration from NT
Hi All, At present I am running a largeish (~450 stations) NT based network (with win2k/XP clients) in a school in the UK, and I am looking into the feasability of moving to samba 3+LDAP over the summer. Has anyone had much experience of this, and are there any major problems? My concerns are with the following: - Seamless transition from NT to Samba without having to re-add user

Win95 & Samba 1st timer
Can anyone help us... We're Samba ist Timers... We're trying out a Linux machine as a feasability study. We're running a copy of SuSE 6.1 Linux on a DX4/100 and trying to get Samba up asd running. As far as I can tell it's all ok, but I can't ping anything from the Linux box and Win95 / NT workstation can't see Linux. The DX4 has a 3Com509B NIC, and as for as I can tell

I would like to run the Federal Reserves econometric model on open source software - they sent me the specifications for the model and what is neccessary to run the model on TROLL (which is a commercially available econometric software) I am looking into the feasability of doing this and whether or not R is the right tool - I would like to discuss the idea with someone who is familiar with this

Odd printing issue
Over the last few days, our users have started experiencing delays in printing. In the log files (for the client), we now see [2011/01/05 11:12:34.360166, 1] libsmb/cliconnect.c:2216(cli_start_connection) cli_start_connection: failed to connect to MACHINENAME<20> (::ffff:IPADDRESS). Error NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL As new systems are affected, these errors appear. We get about 7 of them

Vorbis decoder chip: Specs needed
I'm considering creating an ogg vorbis decoder chip for my senior project in school. At this point, my idea is to have a program (such as XMMS, ogg123, WinAMP) send the encoded ogg bitstream through a USB port to my project, which is then decoded. My project then returns the raw PCM audio, which is then handled by the player program for final audio output. I'm planning on USB as it

Question: Using Windows XP under Linux?
I'm curious about the feasability and possibility of using Wine as a basis for running as much MS code under Linux as possible. Let me explain: Windows XP (and most of it's ilk before it) don't support remote booting, that is using a diskless workstation and booting the OS from the network. Linux, of course readily provides that functionality. However, switching to linux is not

Implementing samba3/LDAP system across several schools
Hi All, I am looking into the feasability of using Samba/LDAP for domain control across several schools in my area, and would be interested to hear of anyone who has any experience/thoughts on how this could work. The schools share a community learning resource centre, and I am looking for ways for all users to be able to log in at their own schools, and also at the learning resource

Semi-OT: An idea for New Orleans temporarycommunications infrastructure
Hi Jeremy, I think the first place to start on this is some corporate funding by one of the voip providers (you could pretty much guarantee US only calls). Once you have this, the rest (servers, generators, sip phones etc) fairly easy to come by. If you do get this off the ground I would be willing to make a donation to a "asterisk" relief project. I would also suggest that maybe

using a Gigaset SX440isdn on a Diva 4BRI ?
Hello, I just received a couple SX440isdn phones and was wondering if they can be plugged into a Diva 4BRI port in NT mode and work with asterisk+chan_capi? I know they probably work fine with mutliHFC cards with either bristuff of chan_misdn but since I have some spare Divas, I was curious about their potential as phone ports. The Diva's 3 and 4 ports are already set to NT mode at boot

Streaming channels from Asterisk to the Internet
Hi folks, I'm wondering if it is currently possible to configure Asterisk to forward the conversations from 2 channels into a streaming daemon, such as Icecast, so that other people connected to the Internet can listen. The concept is similar to a radio talk-show. The show host would connect to Asterisk via an X100P or through VOIP. His or her voice would then be sent to the streaming

Semi-OT: An idea for New Orleans temporary communications infrastructure
The national guard and/or army routinely implements VoIP over wireless in situations where comm is lost, I did see an news release that the Guard started this project in the south the day after the disaster hit. The key is not the VoIP infrastructure, that is the easy part (one ss7 Sonus softswitch and a DS3!), the key is distributing IP over a wide area, which is best done on the quick with WiFI
