Outlook and roaming profiles?
Hi list,
I'm trying to migrate from a workgroup based Samba server to a domain based
Samba server.
I need the following features
- Roaming profiles
- LDAP based user administration / authentication
I think the LDAP part is mostly doable, though I do foresee some hair
tearing, but my main concern is with the roaming profiles.
Users do not have a fixed workstation and log-on to whichever

delete roaming profiles under win2k and PGP. Not good.
Hi there!
After some long hours trying to figure out some nasty behavior related to
win2k automatically deleting roaming cached profiles, I?d like to share the
results with you guys for any future reference.
CONFIG: Samba 2.2.2 stack release with ACL support
linux kernel version 2.4.13-ac4 with ACL

Laptop and local vs roaming profiles/users
Hello,
When a notebook joins a domain, it creates a new (roaming) profile for
the domain user. XP sees this user (Domain\User) as someone different
from the local user (Hostname\User) which existed before.
Is there a way to reconcile these two personalities, while keeping the
profile as roaming, so the user can both use different computers in the
domain with his roaming profile, and also use

Vista laptop in Samba 3.3.4 domain suddenly trying to use roaming profiles?
Grettings, all
I have a bizarre problem on a laptop in my Samba 3.3.4 domain. This domain
includes a mixture of XP Pro and Vista Ultimate clients.
I had just completed a migration to this new domain (from a Samba 2.2.8a
domain), and all seemed happy and well - machines had rebooted and were
still active in the domain, users were logging in with no problem, shares
were working perfectly - all

Win2K Workstation Disconnecting Shares from Samba Server
Team:
I have a Linux Server running Debian Testing (2.4.18
kernel) and Samba 2.2.3a-12.1
It's been running GREAT. This is a marvelous product.
I have a minor issue, though.
2 of the 14 Win2K (all at SP3 and fully "Windows
Updated") will "disconnect" the shares on the Samba
server after only a few seconds of inactivity. This
isn't typically a problem, except that

Roaming profiles - exclude Application Data from roaming profile
Hello All,
I have a problem with my roaming profiles where they are becoming too
large due to the Thunderbird mail accounts (stored by default) in
Application Data. What I would like to do is exclude this directory from
being part of the roaming profile. How can I do this?
Also, how hard is it to have some users not use a roaming profile but
others continuing to use a roaming profile? We

Roaming Profiles: Advantages and disadvantages?
Hello everyone. I wanted to get some feedback and opinions from people
regarding the use of Roaming profiles.
originally, I was planning on using roaming profiles. However, I am
starting to wonder if this is such a good idea. The reason is that, if I
implement roaming profiles, there is a good chance that there will be
network congestion as well as a lot of stress on the server. (50 users so

Roaming profiles with Samba3
Good morning everyone.
I wanted to ask the people on this list who are currently using roaming
profiles with samba 3 how it is working? I worked a little with roaming
profiles with 2.2.8a, but it was not working as well as I wanted it to and
im hoping that samba 3 roaming profiles are working pretty well.
Our network here is really calling for roaming profiles to be a major
option here. Our

Roaming profiles and USRMGR.EXE
I'm using Samba 3.0.22 on Ubuntu 6.06.1 as PDC for our Windows
workstations. The passdb backend is tdbsam.
I want to employ roaming profiles and due to the fact that we have a
mixed Windows environment (Windows 2000 Pro and Windows XP Pro) I have
the following entry in my smb.conf:
logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U\%a
Basically, this works fine. If a user is working on a W2k workstation,

Roaming profiles
Hi,
Just a quick question about Roaming Profiles : Is there a way to force
Windows to use Roaming Profils only on the share network, and without
local copy ?
I set Roaming Profile on a samba share with a GPO, but some users have a
big profile so login is very slow
Thanks

profiles reverting from local to roaming
Hello,
I have a shiny new RHES4 box running Samba 3.0.10-1.4E (as included in the Red Hat distribution) which is set up as a domain controller, using openLDAP and the IdealX scripts. User PCs are Windows 2000 and XP.
We would like to avoid roaming profiles altogether, so we set "logon path =" and "logon home =" (with no argument to the right of the equals sign) in smb.conf.

Roaming Profiles
I'm mulling over the idea of replacing my Win 2k MS AD using Samba. But
I'd like to retain roaming profile capability for all my users. Based on
your experience is it stable enough to implement for a production
environment?
I have only 30 using Win 2k Pro and some XP.
What are the pit falls I need to look out for?
Thank you!

roaming user profiles do not transfer all settings
this may sound like a basic question but i'm not entirely sure how
roaming profiles work so i'm not sure if i have it working properly. i
created a local user account on a client machine and then joined that
machine to the domain. i then logged in as domain administrator and
copied the user profile from the local machine to the server. if i
login with this user account (now the domain

slowness when using roaming profiles
I am on a rh 7.2 machinr running samba. My clients are windows 2000 and
whn using locl profiles I experience quick log-ons and quicj log-offs.
Whwn I flag the client for roaming profiles, it seems to take many minutes
to log off.
The users roaming directory IS created and is populated with
their user inoformation, one user has 300M of stuff.Which I thought
was alot.

Creating mandatory profiles (not making profiles mandatory)
Hi,
is it possible to create the user profiles by copying a template, change
file ownership and modify the SID in NTUSER.DAT using the profile tool?
We have many problems with broken profiles. This has become time
consuming and frustrating - when a user experiences an error or weird
behaviour of an application I can never be sure wether the cause is a
"wrong user error", a broken
