Using winbind for authentication through PDC. Problem: Some users do not get access to the samba share and some do. When I do "wbinfo -u" the users who cannot access show up but when I do "getent passwd", they are not there. The source code seems to compile fine but when I try to join the NT4 domain I get a broken pipe error and it stops. The command I am using is smbpasswd -j (whatever) -r ( whatever) -U ( whatever). I compiled and installed the latest samba 3.0.0rc1. I see that the binary executable was placed in the default location of /usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd. However, I cannot located the default smb.conf file. I was expecting that the 'make install' script would have copied this file somewhere onto my system.
