Maybe this has been asked many times, but I could
not find it in the list archive (in this case could
someone please address me to the right thread?)

XP Pro / Redhat / Samba Printer Suggestions
I am looking at buying a new home office printer and wondered what you all
might suggest.
My current printer is a very inexpensive Canon BubbleJet, and I find it
clogs frequently, has very small ink tanks, and the Maintenance functions
from my XP clients does not work with samba, requiring I switch the printer
cable to an XP machine for maintenance.
My config is this:

Windows 2000 and XP Password
Hello All
I have been using Samba for a few years now with Windows 95 and 98
clients and have never had a problem at all. Recently I had to administer
a new network with Windows 2000 Professional and Windows XP Professional
clients. I am finding that both of these clients will not cache the network
password for very long. I find that if I reboot the clients through the day
they remake the

Samba 3, Windows XP SP1
Hello everyone,
I am having a problem I can't find an answer to.
Background: We had a RH 7.3/8.0 box with samba 2.2.7. Workstations were
Windows 2000. We have 5 roaming users with laptops. when the roaming users
would go home, they were able to log into the laptops without the presence
of the domain (an yes, they were logging into the domain user at home).
Current problem: Running RH 9.0

Version 3.0.2a and Windows XP Problem
Hello Samba Support Team,
...I've just updated my samba from 2.2.7a to 3.0.2a and now have one big
problem:
in one directory on a samba share I store over 6000 files, all in this
single directory without subdirectories... my Explorer (WinXP SP1) only
shows 3134 of 6062 files!!!
when this share is mapped on a SuSE 9.0 Workstation all 6062 files are
available but the first time this directory

Perl on Windows XP for Rcmd build
Is there a recommended binary version of perl to use under Windows XP
for `Rcmd build'? The R FAQ for Windows just mentions "perl". I
think that Kevin Wang's document on R for Windows suggests ActiveState
perl but I have not been able to install it.
I am running Windows XP Professional on a laptop. The operating
system was originally Windows 98 then upgraded to Windows ME

Problems with XP
Hi all,
I've got a problem with WindowsXP i samba 2.2.3a-6.
When I want to work with samba with any other Windows everything is OK
but when I try to get something by samba from WindowsXP first of all I
have to wait by 3-5 minutes and after that time transfers are all right.
It seen to be something with login to domain, maybe XP is waiting for
some kind of signal from samba and after that

XP SP2 offline files sync delay (again)
I'm running Samba 3.0.7 on Mandrakelinux 9.2 as a PDC, with a few shares
from the PDC and more on a separate Mandrakelinux 10.0 member file
server, also running Samba 3.0.7. The passdb backend is LDAP and
clients are all Windows XP Professional SP1. Except for the below,
everything works great!
We make heavy use of offline files, and with Windows XP SP1, all is
well. However, when I

Execute .exe files from a Samba share
Hi!
I'm experimenting with SuSE Linux and Samba 2.2.5 as a PDC, so far,
everything works perfectly well, aside from that if I store an .exe file on
a network mapped drive (from the Samba server) it can't be run?
The workstation is a Windows XP Pro SP1, connecting to the Samba running as
a PDC with LDAP backend. The machine and user logon works perfectly, but I
can't execute .exe

XP clients regularly lost mapped samba share. samba 3.5
Hi all.
I have some complaints from Win XP users.
Win XP clients regularly lost samba share - mapped as network drive. I don`t
see any errors in logs.
1. I have 4 linux machines, with mapped SAMBA 3.5 shares as CIFS. - never
lost.
2. Some Windows XP clients have this problem, but some is not.
Why i ask ? Because the same clients did not lose a mapped network drive
while was WIN 2003 Server.

Change the value stored in inheritance_column
I have been struggling for quite sometime with this.
Is there any way to configure the Model to store user defined value in
the inheritance_column instead of the default value (which is
class_name)
The problem I have is like this:
I have a User model and there are different models which inherit from
this like Admin, Premium, Professional, etc.
Each of these inherited models are identified by a

Samba 3.0.0 PDC, XP SP1, and domain joining woes.
Greetings, you kind and wonderful people.
I've spent the past few hours or so (read: all day) attempting to get a basic
PDC up and running, with no success.
I've even gone to the extent of copying John Herpstra's config, which contains
all sorts of weird and wonderful stuff, in the hope that he had something I
missed. He didn't.
I've got one box running debian testing, with

Windows XP - Explorer crashes when I try to open a file on a Samba share
I am having problems with my samba clients. I am using Windows XP SP1 to
try to connect to a Samba server I have running on my Gentoo Linux server.
Browsing a share works decently well, but I ocassionally have network
problems (the same timeout issue I explain below).
The real problem comes, though, when I try to access a file (either trying
to open it or just right-clicking on it). As soon as I
