Samba with OpenLDAP (not a DC)
Hi, I'm trying to setup a samba server on Ubuntu 16.04 following the docs[1] on the samba wiki. I have my users in OpenLDAP, along with their Posix attributes. They can ssh/sftp to the Linux server and have valid *nix GIDs/UIDs. I've added the 'passdb backend' and 'ldap suffix' lines into my smb.conf[2] however I'm getting errors[3] in smb.log that the ldap server

rsync to sync time without attempting to modify the content
Hello I am setting up a central data repository for my team (several thousands of files, totaling about 4TB). There are multiple sources that I need to consolidate: a source may have a fraction of the total number of file, and there can be conflicts between different sources (that should be very occasional though). I want to detect those conflicts and manually merge them. Also, the

need recipe for samba to do user authentication against a centos 5.5 openldap server (NO IDMAPS! NO PDC!)
Hi all, Please help Ive been wasting days at this... I am not trying to create a PDC, I am not joining an active directory, I am not needing samba schema in my openldap (or do I?), I am not trying to use winbind and idmaps for translations from SID to UID/GID, I just want my samba server which shares linux home directories to authenticate user+password against my existing linux based openldap

Samba + ldap + cannot find domain
So this got me thinking that maybe a chunk of my problem is with LDAP itself on the server. Executing "slapcat" shows me what I believe to be the correct content, including what looks like appropriate content underneath the following: dn: sambaDomainName=DRBHOME,dc=drbhome,dc=ca That seems to answer the question about whether the domain info is actually there. >> Can you also

3.3.10 <-> AD 2008 R2 very slow
Hi again, I changed from 3.4.5 to 3.3.10 after an AD upgrade to 2008R2 and prinitng is working mor ore less but it is incredibly sloooow. My server has no remarkable load so it is not due to hardware bottlenecks. Are there any ways to 'tune' 3.3.10 or any tricks to make it faster ? cheers ~christoph -- /* Christoph Beyer | Office: Building 2b / 23 *\ * DESY

Samba + Active Directory
Hi, I?m having much trouble on configuring Samba to work on an Active Directory environment. Using getent password I?m able to see AD?s users. wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g also work fine. When someone from a Windows try to access my Samba server, the smd password window is shown (I think that the autehntication would be transparent, wouldn't it ?), any password I provide is rejected: I tried AD

3.5.2 connecting to nmb alias without password
Hi there, I use 3.5.2 with netbios aliases in security mode ADS. When I connect to the primary netbios name from a windows host I get the samba machine right away. Connecting to the netbios alias (which is on a differen IP address) I have to type name and pwd to get the connection. DNS entries are OK. Is there any way to get rid of the pwd question, I had the same setup with 3.0.20 for a

algorithmic rid base problem after upgrade to 3.0.9
LS. After upgrading from samba 3.0.7 to samba-3.0.9 it appears that algorithmic rid base is now checked to be larger then 1000 . plaintext backend
Hello I would like to use plaintext backend with a simple Samba 3.0.6 configuration to get rid of the system of double passwords and rely just on the plain old unix /etc/passwd ones. However I couldn't find any information about it in 1) man smb.conf 2) online Samba official HOWTO I tried putting passdb backend = plaintext into a smb.conf file with security=share and the Samba server

Samba on Solaris with LDAP support
I'm trying to build samba with ldap/ads support on a solaris10 sparc system. After some googling, I followed some the advise of others, and built krb5, openssl, and openldap and installed into /usr/local. When running configure, I get errors about ldap not being found: ... checking for LDAP support... yes checking ldap.h usability... yes checking ldap.h presence... yes checking for

Samba4 / Open LDAP init DB
Hi, I have been able to successfully install Samba4 and OpenLDAP and connect them via SSL. The file samba.schema is also loaded into OpenLDAP, but when I start samba server it looks like it is expecting some basic structure. My Question at this point is how to provide this the easisest way? Currently the OpenLDAP DB is entirely empty (virgin) so Samba4 could create anything it needs. cat

AD 2008 R2 vs. samba 3.4.5
Hi there, I almot exlusively use samba for printing in a semi large scale (>2.000 windows hosts & >500 printers). I have been running 3.0.20 for a long time and was quite happy with it. Unfortunately my windows fellows have now updated to AD 2008 R2 and I experienced some immediate problems with encryptions types so I updated to 3.4.5 which is not really working for me. I see a
