migrating users to openldap
I noticed that when I migrated my users with the migrate_passwd.pl
tool from PADL it didn't migrate the actual passwords (just the rest
of the posixAccount info). I think I need to set the EXTENDED_SCHEMA
variable and then try running the tool again. does anyone know what
this should be?
I actually thought there might be a migrate_shadow.pl tool that could
accomplish this, but there

Authenticating Linux boxes against Active Directory, using Samba as a sort of AD Proxy
Hi Everyone,
I'm trying to find a open source solution to authenticate a bunch of
Linux machines (and, ideally, network devices etc.) against Active
Directory, as unfortunately in our organization this is the primary
source of account data. The complication we have is that my
organization has more than one Active Directory Domain, each hosted on
its own collection of domain controllers. This

Fwd: Follow Up - Problem with groups & joining domain.- LDAP
Follow up to original post.
If I created local groups and users in /etc/passwd &
/etc/groups I get farther along.
For instance, if I have a Samba PDC with LDAP basically like I listed
in my post. If I browse from a w2k pro box to the samba server
without the workstation having joined the domain, I can authenticate
to the samba server with a user who is not in /etc/passwd but is in
LDAP. So

Authenticating against Win2003 Server
Hi,
I'm running a Debian Sarge box that I want to authenticate against a Win
2003 Server. I understand that the old RH way of doing it was to use
pam_smb_auth.so, which was easy to set up but inherently insecure.
So, I've configured pam, winbind and samba, but obviously not quite
correctly. When I try to su to a user with a windows password it fails
and I get the following error in

SIP Retransmission Patch
I've also noticed that my SIP phones (snom [12]00) seem to deregister
themselves after some time, and not be able to re-register until
Asterisk is restarted. This problem only manifested with the latest
CVS.

Authenticating users over samba
Hello.
I am administrating about 30PCs with W2K and users are authenticated in
SAMBA running as PDC on Linux. About 16PCs have the possibillity to boot
also into Linux. I would like to authenticate also linux users using the
samba, because I do not want to copy passwd, group, shadow each time I add a
user, or even add the user on each PC. I do not use LDAP a do not know NIS.

Incorrect/incomplete group information when authenticating against AD
Summary: a Samba server authenticating against AD can only
retrieve some, not all, groups that users belong to.
I have a Linux server "oldsys" (all version info given
below) making files available via Samba and authenticating
against Windows AD. This works without problems.
We want to migrate the data, and thus the Samba
configuration, to a new server "newsys". This has been

The Plan:
At some day there will be a FileServer called 'fileserver'

'Yesterday' will always have the last night status from the
'fileserver' without any write access. So if the

Authenticating against AD (without adding to domain)
Hi,
Does anyone know if it's possible to auth users against AD and how? I
don't want to register the station to the domain, just auth the users
against it.
We have a local mediawiki installation that auths users against the AD
without having any admin access to it.
Any ideas?

authenticating samba against an Windows AD Domain contd.
Thanks for all the information you guys have sent. I've figured out how
to mount shared drives with smbmount, how to view a list of shares with
smbclient, etc. I can also find plenty of documentation covering setting
up samba as a domain controller in a Windows environment. However, what I
cannot find much useful information on is how I can authenticate users of

Authenticating other services against AD - PAM and Postgres - dedicated user
Hi!
I've got a samba4 pdc, fileserver and whatnot running now for a few months,
a number of users logs in there daily, everyone seems quite happy about it
going.
I've migrated my environment from samba3 NTdomain, where I had LDAP backend
for users and I used that to authenticate other services against it: like
pam on other servers and postgres DBs. I have succesully managed to do this

Authentication via PAM posixAccounts in RH EL ASv3
To anyone who can help,
I'm trying to setup samba to authenticate through PAM (ldap) but can't
find /consistent/ documentation for this.
POP/IMAP/ and local login works via pam_ldap, and samba was compiled
--with-pam.
Would appreciate hearing from anyone who has had any joy with this setup.
