Hop from FC
I'm most likely going to make the hop from FC to CentOS in the next several months, and wonder whether I should wait for CentOS 5. What is cached swap?
Isn't cached swap somewhat an oxymoron? Why cache virtual? Am I misunderstanding this line from top? Swap: 524120k total, 80760k used, 443360k free, 73448k cached Mike -- p="p=%c%s%c;main(){printf(p,34,p,34);}";main(){printf(p,34,p,34);} Oppose globalization and One World Governments like the UN. Swap Considerations
I am considering installing CentOS 4.4, and am interested in how best to set up. I have been using FC2 and helping administer a Debian machine for a few years, but do not consider myself a Linux guru. My current set up uses a /swap partition which is 2x my memory size mem = 256 MB $ sudo /sbin/fdisk -l /dev/hda6 76506 77545 524128+ 82 Linux swap I'm interested in the

Contemplating Move
Hello, all. New to list. I hope this isn't an FAQ. I looked at the FAQs I could find, and didn't see it. I am doing contract work, and was requested to install FC2 on my machine (last October). Since doing that, I have tentatively concluded that the Fedora Core Project is more or less beta test, and not really suitable for development work. Please anyone correct me if I am wrong. So I

Jumping from FC2
Some time ago I installed FC2 at the request of an employer. That contract ended over a year ago, and FC2 is an orphan. I am gradually feeling more pressure to jump from FC2, and do not wish to remain with the Fedora Core Project, as I don't want to make installing and upgrading my machine into a hobby. I already maintain a Debian machine for my girlfriend, but I'm not sure I wish make

Mail addresses with quotes + Postfix
Dear all, I have a working setup with Postfix + Dovecot, storing users in a MySQL table. I ran into problems setting up and using a mail address like a"@"b at mydomain.tld, which by RFC should be valid, but leads to problems in Dovecot. From my debugging, I can see that on the lookup, Dovecot replaces %n with "a" (quotes added by me) and %d with "b at mydomain.tld"

Re-release of version 1.3.2?
Hello, The project I work on, the Clear Linux Project for Intel Architecture, regularly scans for new releases of upstream packages. On January 1, the scans detected a flac 1.3.2 release tarball. However, when a build was attempted at a later date (January 10), a hash mismatch was detected between the originally detected release tarball and the one currently published at the download mirrors.

Mail addresses with quotes + Postfix
Of course you are right! It should either be "a at b"@mydomain.tld or a."@".b at mydomain.tld, both would be valid. Sadly, it does not change the outcome. Even with a pure "@"@mydomain.tld, Dovecot splits it into the empty string user (%n) and @mydomain.tld as the domain part (%d). CentOS 5 LiveCD - When?
I asked before (about 2 weeks) about this, and was told it was in testing. I wonder when it will be available. My GF is considering leaving Debian due to it not recognizing her hardware very well, and I thought a CentOS 5 LiveCD might be a reasonable way for her to see whether CentOS might do a better job. If no LiveCD is forthcoming soon, then I'll burn a copy of the CentOS 4 LiveCD and let

Mount floppy on startup?
On bootup, it seems CentOS automatically mounts the floppy drive to /media/floppy. Is there a way to stop this from happening, short of removing the floppy drive from the system (as I don't use it)? Currently we have RH7.3 with compiler gcc 2.96.x My mission, should I choose to accept it, involves moving our embedded application to CentOS 4.1 with gcc 3.x Problem is that about 1/2 million lines of code that gcc 2.96 accepts gives fatal fits to the gcc 3.x compiler from CentOS 4.1 I don't know how many fatal fits, as some disguise others etc. "Can't find register to
