3.0 beta 3 - NT and Unix group mapping
Hello everyone! I've been testing the 3.0 beta 3 (I've just upgraded from 2.2.7), and made a PDC configuration with Windows XP Pro clients. Everything works fine, however, I'm fine tuning the NT and Unix group mapping; in particular, I want to map the Unix group 'users' to the NT group 'Power Users'. I've tried: net groupmap modify ntgroup="Power Users"

Fw: Samba and Windows XP, 30 second lockup
Hi again, I posted this message some time ago in the list, however nobody replied yet. I find this kinda weird because the problem happens with both my XP computers, so I am pretty sure there must be at least a couple of guys out there with the same problem... Basically the problem is that when using Samba shares from XP from time to time I experience a ~30 second lockup of the shares. This

oplock problem
Hello! I need help (but who doesn's huh? :-) ) I meant to run one program - Money2000 (no, it is _not_ program from Microsoft) together with samba on linux, but i have problems with oplocks. This program is installed locally on win9x/NT and shares its databases. We tried to place databases on novell, on NT server and on win95 acting as server and everything worked fine. But when we tried

Charset problem
Hi all! I just migrated to Samba 3.0. I'm using Spanish Windows clients, and when I create a file with a spanish character in its filename (ie: men?), in Windows Explorer it looks ok, but when I do "ls" in Linux I get something slightly different (ie: men??). This didn't happen in samba 2.x (I was previously using the now missing option charset="iso-8859-1"). I tried

Samba 3.0b3+CUPS+server drivers
I'm trying to setup a printer using Cups, using cupsaddsmb It uploads the files ok (smbclient ... -c 'mkdir W32X86;put ...;put ...') It adds the driver ok (rpcclient -c 'adddriver "Windows NT X86" "Canon:file1:file2..." (I have verified this worked from server properties in "printers and faxes" of the linux server: the driver "canon" shows

Updated from 2.2.8a to 3.0b3 gives smbtar newer failure
Hi all, Situation: We use smbtar for backups, incrementals done using -N <last date file>, and this has worked well with samba 2.2.x After upgrading to 3.0b3, using the -N (newer) option to smbtar causes a bad interaction with smbclient. Eg,: # smbtar -s PC -x Share -u User -p Pwd -d / -t - -N last-backup -v gives (if you print out the eval at the end of smbtar script): eval

Please no HTML email.
Hi all, FYI, just a warning/note. I read my email on mutt from samba.org. When I get an html formatted email I just hit 'D' (delete) without looking at the contents. I think many other Samba Team members do the same. If you send an urgent plea for help and it's html formatted then I doubt anyone in the Samba Team will ever see it. html formatted email is 99.9% spam, and gets treated

Hello, i am running Samba 2.2.3a on a Red Hat Linux 7.3 box with kernel 2.4.18-10. I am experiencing some problems on a particular samba share, which is accessed by 10 Windows 98SE clients working on a COBOL production packet by mapping with a G: letters this samba folder. Well, some times a day it happens that this packed blocks because some files on that samba folder remains locked; i

Samba 3.0b3: Cannot add machine to LDAP database
I am unable to add a machine to samba-3.0.beta3 running as a PDC. I've not been able to get Samba to print to a Lexmark Z53. If I call it a Z52, the driver uploads (to where, I have no idea so I can't check it) but I still can't get anything out of the printer.

Modifying password expiry dates
I've just found out that Samba (rather correctly) implements a nice and low password expiry date through the tdbsam backend, and I believe the "maximum password age" value. However, I can't, for the life of me, actually /set/ this thing. I've tried this: # pdbedit -u <username> -r -P "maximum password age" -C 100 And without the -r, and with various

Hi all, Having a very strange problem here. I'm on RH9, using samba 3.0b3, cups 1.1.7, and a canon 1000sp printer. The printer itself doesn't matter. Looking for descriptions of difficult problems
Hi all, Paul Anderson, a friend of mine who works at the University of Edinburgh, is looking for complicated problems that are currently difficult to handle with existing config mgmt tools. Please read his request below, and if you have any difficult problems that seem to meet his needs, I''d appreciate it if you would send descriptions of them to him. Thanks, Luke Begin

Bug in win32-eventlog, grabbing descriptions
Hi all, I know that once upon a time I said that we shouldn''t use DONT_RESOLVE_DLL_REFERENCES (line 698), but it appears that this was wrong headed thinking for win32-eventlog. A couple of folks have complained that they couldn''t get descriptions for event records in some cases, and I have a strong feeling that''s the culprit. Can anyone see a downside to using

Getting event log descriptions from remote servers
Hi all, Looks like there''s still an issue reading descriptions from remote event logs. From Andrew Garberoglio: "I was, however, able to devise a hack by setting up parallel registry key on my workstation with alternate paths to the event source libraries, which I copied from a Windows Server 2003 machine to my workstation. Following that, I then modified the value of BASE_KEY in

SAS.xpt/STATA.dta, field descriptions, and dbWriteTable
Hello all, I have a large database (~100MB in 13 relational files) that made its way to me in two formats. The files were sent in both SAS xport and STATA, thanks, I am told, to stat-transfer. The two files, ostensibly, contain the same data, just in different formats. My goal: Move these files to MySQl without the help of SAS or STATA (which I do not have). The tools I am using are: 1.

Retrieving column descriptions into Stata
Dear All, I am working on a project with Stata 7 datafiles. I'm trying to do some of my analysis in R since I don't have Stata handy. My problem is with accessing the Stata column descriptions. (Part of the project is to clean up these column descriptions.) I imported the Stata files ok using the standard X <- read.dta("c:/testdata/test1.dta") test1.dta has column
