Rsync error
rsh gives a reduced environment. if rsync on ApplServ isn't in /bin or /usr/bin, that's probably your problem. It's such a common problem that somebody added the "--rsync-path=" option for just such needs. In my case, i have rsync in /cadappl/encap/bin (symlinked into /cadappl/encap/packages/rsync.something/bin). It's in my path, but not the base system path given

I checked to see of the machine trust account was setup correctly and it was. Also the username and password i used is a working user because i can logon with my 98 box just fine. The trust accounts are made, there is a domain admin user

Ads server = huh?
All, I've installed a Redhat 9 system with all packages from 3 discs. Now I've removed my samba 2 related packages and installed samba 3 using rpm. After setting up kerberos with my W2k system and testing that out successfully I set up smb.conf with security = ads etc I've also set 'ads server' but this config option causes various samba binaries to report "unknown

TDM400 hangup issue in China
Afternoon, I was hoping someone could point me in the right direction. I have an asterisk PBX deployed in China using a TDM400P based card. The incoming calls are being picked up correctly, but are not being hung up. I suspect that this might be an issue with the signaling that has been selected. If anyone here has deployed asterisk in china using an analog card, it would be a great help

OT O'Reilly Asterisk TFOT
I went to the Linux Solutions exhibition in Paris yesterday, visited the well stocked O'Reilly stand and saw a nice pile of Asterisk TFOT, 6 hours later there was only one left. It must say something, also it was the English version. -- Dave Cotton <dcotton@linuxautrement.com>

Network IP address
Hello all, Quick question. Our network has NO connection to the internet (the way we want it) but we are using 66.2.x.x as our IP addresses. However, I am now reading that 192.168.x.x is the preferred naming convention. If I leave as 66.2.x.x will I have problems with Samba? Because I dont connect to the Internet do I need to change? Thanks in advance and hope Mr. Gerard O'Reilly Intranet

Dundi Examples
Can someone show me how to set up DUNDi, I will be using it to connect 14 asterisk servers internally. I don't want to use it on the external world. If anyone has any examples of connecting 2 or 3 (if their is a difference) machines in a DUNDi co-operation that would be helpful. Johnathan Falk Network Administrator Clinton Community Schools

new book
Just thought I would mention that there is a new O'Reilly book out, "Developing Bioinformatics Computer Skills", which is ok, pretty superficial about some things but at least it lets you know what is happening and where. R gets a few pages in there, 394-396, mostly nice press and accurate except that Bill Venables (hi Bill) may be surprised to find out that he is a member of the

Default permissions for creating a new user
I know this is a Linux 101 question, however I am unable to locate the answer in my O'Reilly Linux book: how to set the default for permissions when creating a new user. The default for the GUI in my newly installed Centos 5.5 is 700. I usually use 774. And when root creates a new directory, is there a way to have a default there too? Lastly, if root or someone with root privileges

OT: Forum or mailing list for Bash-related questions?
Hi, The subject says it all. After a few years of writing scripts the quick and dirty way, I've decided to take the plunge and learn Bash correctly, using the O'Reilly Bash Cookbook. I'm currently looking for the right place to ask questions, but curiously enough, Google searches about "bash forum" result in nothing conclusive. I took a peek in the corresponding USENET

Persistant Z drive in XP
Hello. New to SAMBA.(2.2.8 on RH9) Mixed environment of 98 & (trying) XP. My "net use s: /home" command works wonderfully for XP and 98. But XP throws in an "extra" "more home-than-home" directory - namely \username\.win_profile on the Z drive. I've tried disconnecting it with: net use Z: /delete, but XP claims to have a process running on it (even after 10
