Submissions that include an entire previous digest
Colleagues,
Today's digest (Volume 94, Issue 12) contained an entire copy of Digest, Vol 94, Issue 11. It appears that an inconsiderate poster (Message 39 in Issue 12) received the digest and clicked reply, thereby including the entire digest in his/her submission (> 6000 additional lines of text). This made it difficult to scroll through the digest efficiently.
At minimum, posters

Changing domain name
Hi,
For reasons best known to the IT admin before myself, we currently
have a domain name of WARLOCK. I want to change this. We have about
15 WinXP Pro client machines on the domain as well as a few linux
domain clients.
A bit of reading shows that it should be as simple as doing a net
getlocalsid, making the change, followed by a net setlocalsid.
I started doing this when I noticed something

Issues with Samba
Hi I cannot seem to find any information regarding this in the mailing
lists .
I am testing a UNIX PDC before I implement it to general use in the
network .
It works fine It would appear with the win 2000 clients.
But I essentially have two problems
1. When I have PGP installed on the machine and log in with a roaming
profile . It creates a network associates folder that does not get

McAfee 8 incompatible with Samba
I've parsed a whole year's worth of postings in this group
and didn't find any previous reference to the problem.
Since I've updated McAfee to version 8 many applications
which open file chooser dialogs report "Access denied"
when trying to open a Samba share, including the users's
own home directory.
At installation one can choose to exclude some apps from

"attrib +R myowndir" fails to write-protect my owndir
I hope Time won't take me to a CDMA court martial in Guantanamo for
unfair use of your quotes, Daniel!
The point is that each norm is only really valid in its original
context. It is the spirit of the norm which should guide us. The idea
is: you slap an unorthodox attribute onto an object to evoke any kind
of practical magic and then laugh your sides off. Who cares?
The same with Readonly.

Samba 3.0.5: Odd browsing / login issues
Hello to all on the list, hope you're having a good day.
I'm using samba 3.0.5 on a gentoo linux system, kernel 2.6.7, vanilla

I'm running in Securit = ADS mode, and it authenticates against a
windows 2000 DC. It has been for quite a while. But i've had an issue
that I would like to solve now, any help is appreciated.
When any windows system i've tried tries to

"attrib +R myowndir" fails to write-protect my own dir
A trivial case:
executing the following DOS command from the prompt line on a Win2K SP3:
%windir%\system32\attrib.exe +R H:\dir
can't set the R(eadonly) flag on my home dirs (2.2.7):

Maildir permissions, shared folders & postfix
Hi there,
It's my understanding that shared folders can be implemented in the
Dovecot IMAP server by simply symlinking one maildir to another, eg:
$ ls -lan /home/DOMAIN/ned/.maildir/
total 40
drwx------ 9 10012 10000 440 Jan 9 04:23 .

Re: Windows 2000 don't fetch user.DOMAIN profile
running echo %userprofile% from a windows command prompt will tell you
exactly where your user profile is located.
running set will give you all your environment settings.

[PATCH libnbd 2/2] interop: Retry TCP connections to qemu-nbd.
The test interop-qemu-nbd-tls-certs frequently fails on slow (32 bit)
machines in Fedora Koji. (Is crypto slow on these already overloaded
machines?)
As we cannot wait for a signal when qemu-nbd is ready start serving,
we have to use a sleep. The current sleep is 5 seconds, which is not
long enough. Making the sleep longer would work but is inconsiderate
for people using faster machines.

man page
Hi,
I've found this in the man page for rsync: "To backup my wife’s home directory, which consists of large MS Word files and mail folders, I use a cron job that runs ...".
I believe it's very inappropriate and inconsiderate to mention Microsoft products unless it's really necessary. I'm mostly concerned with the fact that this careless usage not only gives them more

Full wNT/w2K ACL conformance
We are planning to replace a quite big domain running W2K with Samba ( at
the very least, the DC ).
Though i'd love to have the extra security capabilities of W2K ( Kerberos )
as a DC, Samba/NT4 as PDC/BDC with ldapsam will more than suffice for now.
The show-stopper right now is this: we need to be able to assign "real"

Archive parameter doesn't preserve owner:group property!
Hi!
I would like some advices to combine security and automated backup...
How rsync manage hosts allow parameter compared to /etc/hosts.allow?
Is it possible to use ssh key just for authentification not for crypted
transfert?
I have also a problem to preserve owner:group properties even with archive
parameter which is supposed to do that.
I have to put gid =root and uid = root in

RFC: boilerplate text in driver man pages
All,
With AsciiDoc, we can make use of some macros to cut down on some of
the repetition in the driver man pages.
I don't want to go overboard on this, though - I know that drivers
aren't meant to be invoked directly by users anyway.
I propose that we put all of the gory details into the nutupsdrv(8)
man page (mostly there anyway), and just add a few basic options to
the
