From NT4-PDC to Samba-PDC: 2.2.7a or 3.0.0-beta-x?
Hi, I have one NT4 PDC that needs to be migrated to Samba-PDC. No Active Directory. Just users, groups, windows shares... the works. I'm seeing that Samba-3.x is "very PDC-oriented". I like that. But, so far, Samba-3 is still in beta/pre-release versions and in my "stock" distribution, Samba is on 2.2.7a version (2.2.7a-security-rollup-fix). Should I wait for Samba-3?

Samba Shares and Win32 Viruses
Hi Collective users of Samba, (does has a nice ring to it eh?) Recently I found a my samba server being infected by win32 viruses. Though it does not affect the server in any way, I do find them to be an annoyance. I understand also that I can perform "veto" of files like *.exe in smb.conf but find that to be a wee bit restrictive. There are some users who stores valid executables in

Can't use mount command with samba
I have a home network based on Win XP Pro, with one Linux machine running Red Hat 9. All updates have been applied. There's no domain controller. I can connect from the Linux machine to the XP machines via Konqueror using smb://mymachine/myshare However, I can't use the mount command. I'm trying to use syntax like mount -t smbfs -o username=myname, password=mypwd //192.168.0.1

Login from win2k client to samba PDC
I have joined my win2k client machines (win2k professional or win2k professional server) to my PDC. This worked fine and I did all recommended as e.g. in the HOWTO http://hr.uoregon.edu/davidrl/samba/samba-pdc.html#joining. So far I can also login localy to the win2k client machines using a local account and connect a network drive from the PDC using a valid account on the PDC (as given in the

Problems connecting to samba 3.04
I have a FreeBSD 4.10 box with samba 3.04 set up and a Windows XP pro sp1 client. Everything is fine, except every 15 minutes or so for no apparent reason the connection drops and I'm unable to access the server. Then after a few minutes the whole thing starts working again, and 15 minutes or so later, the connection drops again. The problem is pretty similar to

Use the "smbpasswd -a username" to setup a new user password. But without your setup and how you did it and what is going on in the logs it is hard to answer this question, it is very broad. There are great and wonderful documents to learn all about SAMBA and how to set it up. (Thank you to everyone that created those works of art. 'sniff, sniff' Beautiful they are. Got me

A working solution to the XP domain reboot problem
Hey, I worked for days on this, and I want to share the solution I stubled across. I got this error message from my wife XP laptop: "Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domain controller is down or otherwise unavailable, or because your computer account was not found. Please try again later. If this message continues to appear, contact your system administrator for

solution to domain reboot problem
Hey, I had a problem with rebooting XP and joining the samba domain, which was controlled by my gentoo linux box. I worked for days for a solution, and found it....!!!! The problem was that I could join the domain fine, but had to reboot, and then found i was rejected from joining then. It appeared like the domain was invisible to the XP box. I pulled my hair out, scoured the web

Authenticating against a Windows 2000 DC?
I apologize in advance if this is a FAQ, but I couldn't find the FAQ document for this list. I also could not find anything relevant in other Samba documentation sources like http://hr.uoregon.edu/davidrl/samba.html. There seems to be plenty of information about using Samba *as* a DC, but I want to know if I can use Samba *with* a Windows 2000 DC. We have two DCs running Windows 2000, a W2K

smbldap-tools broken pipe
Hi, I am working on establishing a Samba+LDAP server with management by the smbldap tools from idealx. Versions are Samba 3.0.14a, OpenLDAP 2.2.24, smbldap tools 0.8.8 all on Solaris 8. I'm thinking I have a problem with my perl (perhaps), version 5.8.5, as I keep getting "Broken pipe" messages when using smbldap-populate, smbldap-groupadd, etc. Google produced no useful

modeling binary response variables
R-devotees, I have a question about modeling in the case where the response variable is binary. I have a case where I have a response variable that is the probability of success, and four descriptor variables, The response has a sigmoid response with one of the variables. I would like to test for the effect of the various descriptor variables on the percentage success of the binary trait. I have
