VPN access
Hi- I have a linux server running Samba where users on my local LAN can log in to a domain. Is there any way, through VPN, to have remote users on Win2000 / WinXP log in to my domain? Thanks!! -Greg _________________________________________________________________ The new MSN 8: advanced junk mail protection and 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail

rc3 net groupmap add fails
Relevant part of "net3 groupmap list" is System Operators (S-1-5-21-1617713866-2789119093-1479812082-1007) -> sys In howto there is the following example net groupmap modify ntgroup="System Operators" unixgroup=sys net groupmap modify ntgroup="Power Users" unixgroup=sys You can add System Operators but trying to add Power Users fails. If you do it in reverse

Good Admin tool ?
Hi all, Just wondering what Samba administration tool is the most frequently used ? What tool do admins use daily ? I've tried Cmd line / Samba tools, Swat, Webmin, LAM... and still haven't found a full-featured one and *user-friendly* one... Many Thanks :) Ganael.

3.0 beta 3 - NT and Unix group mapping
Hello everyone! I've been testing the 3.0 beta 3 (I've just upgraded from 2.2.7), and made a PDC configuration with Windows XP Pro clients. Everything works fine, however, I'm fine tuning the NT and Unix group mapping; in particular, I want to map the Unix group 'users' to the NT group 'Power Users'. I've tried: net groupmap modify ntgroup="Power Users"

clarify issues on joining Samba PDC, machines, RIDs,
I'm running into issues trying to configure a server to be a Samba PDC in a small network that contains only Win2k/XP workstations. This will be going into an environment where there are no Windows server. There is a pre-existing Samba server that will be replaced, but it'll be easier to recreate user accounts than attempt migration (there were no machine accounts). Due to

how can I be a domain admin in 3.0RC3 ?
Hi ! I'm using samba-3.0RC3 as a PDC (for testing). I'm using the ldap backend. I created 1 user, 1 computer and some groups. I mapped the unix groups domainadmins to "Domain admins" with my_personnal_sid-512. I added my user to domainadmins. I set "admin users = @domainadmins" in my smb.conf, but I still do not have domain admin rights on workstations :( Any idea

HowTo Chapter12 Group Mapping and LDAP
Hello, I have a question about the documentation of the Samba Howto's. Specifically, I am not able to understand how group mapping ties into LDAP. I believe I understand the concept of unix to windows group mapping as laid out in chapter 12 as it relates a tdbsam, but get confused when dealing with a ldapsam back-end. There is a note listed " When the passdb back-end uses LDAP

Power users on Samba 3.0.1.
Good Afternoon, How do I set my domain users to became Power Users on the workstations? Is there a way to map unix group "x" on the domain to became nt group "Power Users"? I did some research and I found someone mentioning "take domain users from the users group, and add it to the power user group" but my w2k does not list "Domain Users" under

Advice needed for Samba 3 setup for multiple Linux boxes in established Win2k AD domain...
Hi all, I have the lucky task of being able to set-up a DEV environment for our developers. We plan on using redhat 9 with Samba 3 and making each server an AD domain member of an established Win2K domain. The advice I would like is the best way to implement this, I'd like to hopefully leave the Win2K domain admins power to create users on the Win2K domain, and automatically add users to the

After Upgrading to rc4 (and still with 3.0.0) having Groupmap problems.
Hi, Before Samba 3.0.0 RC4 I was running Samba 3.0.0 beta3, and when I upgraded to RC4, I began having problems with group mappings. I didn't notice at first, because on my laptop I don't normally log on to the domain. I just noticed when I tried to use my desktop and log on to the domain... I don't have Domain Admin privileges. So, I look at 'net groupmap list' ... and it

Samba 2.2 -> 3.0.0 upgrade: questions + Internet Connection Wizard / Identities
Hello, I just upgraded from Samba 2.2.7 to Samba 3.0.0 on RedHat 9. I did this by uninstalling the 2.2.7 samba RPM's and then applying the Samba 3.0.0 RPM from samba.org, then putting my local changes back into smb.conf. I have also migrated my smb users from smbpasswd to tdbsam with the pdbedit utility as discussed in the HOWTO. It seems I have to rejoin my client boxes (windows 2000 pro)

net group question
I groupapped the domadmins group in linux to ntgroup="Domain Admins" but instead of mapping to the SID number ending in 512 it's creating a new SID number endind in 2025 mapped to domadmins... Does anybody knows why??? It worked in the previous server. This is the command I execute net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=domadmin If I use the rid=512 option I

Confused with profile filesystem permissions
What should be the filesystem permissions for the profile share? Something like 0700 user:group for the directory? I'm getting permission denied errors from winxp pro sp2 and samba 3.0.8pre2. Does it have something to do with "profile acls"?

Repost: Cached credentials not working
Hello all, I'm setting up a domain using Samba 3.0 as PDC, with WinXP clients. One of these clients is a laptop, which should be able to use cached profiles of the domain users. Online logon is working fine, however when the domain server is not available it cannot logon, whereas it should be able to use cached credentials to access the cached profile. Windows says it cannot log on because

Adding XP to a samba domain
Bare with me please :-) I know this question has probably been asked before but a quick overview of the archives didn't help me out. Couple of parts 1. Can a samba domain be established that doesn't require registry hacks on an XP machine to add the XP machine? 2. What would a VERY basic smb.conf file look like that creates a samba domain for W2K and XP machines? 3. Does anyone
