Dave clients accessing Samba
Hi,
We have about 2 dozen Mac OS9 computers running Dave 2.5.3 to access smb
resources. Our print server, running Samba 2.2.7 (w/domain
authentication), has no user accounts. PCs access the printers and print
just fine, but the Macs using Dave get an authentication error of invalid
user/password. They can access resources on the win2003 PDC.
Any idea what's going on here specific to the

Broken pipe with 2.2.8a and Solaris 2.5.1
The source code seems to compile fine but when I try to join the NT4 domain
I get a broken pipe error and it stops. The command I am using is smbpasswd
-j (whatever) -r ( whatever) -U ( whatever). I am using gcc version 2.95
and I think I have all the other libraries needed but not sure. Using the
same software on a Solaris 2.7 it works fine.

Samba Domain Controller Help
Hi I am trying to setup a Domain controller on my home network for
testing and I am running into a bit of a problem.
Everytime I try to authenticate to the domain I get refused. I have
completely read the domain controller how-to that is supplied with Samba
2.28. I follow all of the directions and still nothing. When I attempt
to authenticate though it tells me that I don't have the right

Login Scripts in LDAP
Hi !
I use Samba with OpenLDAP. The Samba users information are
keept in LDAP. I'd like to keep the login scripts in LDAP.
Something knows how can I do this ? And how Samba would read the
login scripts in LDAP and not in netlogon directory ?
Thanks,
Bruno Stella

No Getent
Using winbind for authentication through PDC.
Problem: Some users do not get access to the samba share and some do.
When I do "wbinfo -u" the users who cannot access show up but when I do
"getent passwd", they are not there. What does this mean?

Re: samba Digest, Vol 7, Issue 34
Make sure the XP box's firewall is disabled for the network connection
you're using to connect to the samba server (advanced properties of the
network connection).

winbind samba and nt4 pdc
Hi all
I am attempting to install winbind on a Redhat 9 machine with an NT4
PDC. The winbind version is samba-2.2.7a-7.9.0 as a stock RH install.
I have followed the install instructions on the man page and I still
get the errors shown below.
I have searched google for the STATUS_BUFFER_OVERFLOW (0x80000005)error
and the plaintext password authentication failed error but nothing I've
found

Where is the default 'smb.conf' located?
I compiled and installed the latest samba 3.0.0rc1. I see that the binary
executable was placed in the default location of /usr/local/samba/sbin/smbd.
However, I cannot located the default smb.conf file. I was expecting that
the 'make install' script would have copied this file somewhere onto my
system.
Where is the default 'smb.conf' file located?

HOWTO: name change of Samba PDC
Hi there!
I once had the problem of not being able to log on to the domain after
changing the name of my Samba server as described in the
documentation. But it was only in a test environment.
Now I have to change the name of a Samba PDC in a real environment and
I am not sure what to do to avoid this problem
In the docs for Samba 2.2 it says that one should restore the file

Add directory share without killing samba?
Is there a way that I can dynamically add a share point to the smb.conf file
and not be forced to kill the smbd daemon and restart in order for it to be
visible? Or is this such a simple thing I'm blind and can't see it in any
FAQ I read? :-)
Thanks!

Problems using samba as a print server
Hi,
I set up Samaba 2.2.7 on a RedHat 9 box to act as a print server. The
Samba server is a member of the domain and will be sharing about a dozen
printers. I am using lprng in conjunction with ifhp in order to do
charge-back print accounting. But here's the glitch: the server is not
hosting any file shares and basically has only a couple of local accounts.
The result is that when domain

How do I trim messages.tdb??
Hi,
I've got a messages.tdb file that's currently 2.5GB in size. Is there a
way to trim it down (and preferably keep it trimmed)? Can I simply
delete it or zero its length by copying /dev/null to it?
I'm need of an answer before I end up with a full file system.
Thanks,
Rob

Group permissions and recursion
Hi,
Now that we have successfully moved a first department share on to our
mega SAMBA server, we're in the 20% of the old 80/20 rule. Our problem
has to do with group permissions within the extended acl.
We have implemented winbind along with the ADS security mode. This
means that a user isn't just "jdoe", but is "MYDOMAIN\jdoe". We are
using the extended ACL

adddriver rpc command generates segmentation fault
Hi,
I'm trying to add a printer driver to samba 2.2.7, part of the RedHat 9
distro. I have all the associated files under print$/W32X86 (I verified
that they were where I thought they were from samba's POV by looking via
smbclient). Below is the output from a getdriver command issued to a W2K
PDC to get the names of all the required files for the particular printer:

How do I apply active directory group policies to samba shares
Hi,
We would like to aggregate departmental servers on to a single samba
share called "departments" and under departments would be a set of
folders corresponding to the departments. Permissions need to be
controlled by group memberships in active directory. When I go into
folder properties on an XP with the departments share mounted, under the
security tab I see Administrators,

I'm confused about W2K rpcclient "getdriver" response
Hi,
I'm trying to query a W2K PDC for printer driver information in order to
install those same drivers on a SAMBA 2.2.7 server. I executed an
enumdrivers ms-rpc call to get the list of drivers, but the getdriver
command fails for all but a couple of the drivers. I've included a
representative instance below:
> cmd = getdriver "HP LaserJet 4050 Series PCL"
> Error
