Accessing Shares with WXP Pro
Let me rephrase my question: How do I access shares with WXP Pro. I don't want to be part of a domain. I just want to be able to search for the server from the computer, map a network drive to a share, and then life will be good. With that said, right now I can find the server. I can double-click it. But what comes up is a login box that only lets me put in a password. The

machine accounts
Well I thank everybody that helped me get swat working. I am very thankful. Now, though, it seems I have more problems. When I try to join my samba domain, my XP box says "a domain controller for the domain edith could not be contacted." Okay, well, after reading up on things in this list, it seems that I need to create a machine account. I didn't have to on my NT box. When I

PDC BDC should I or shouldn't I?
Hello everyone I hope this is the right place to post this question. I have all but eliminated all Microsoft servers in my current work environment, expect two boxes, which are our PDC and BDC, they also are the DNS, Dial in With Rocket Port Card, DHCP, Winslookup servers. I would like to remove these NT boxes and replace them with a nice shiny new Linux box running Samba. Reading some of

Doesn't require a password
Here is my problem: Previously, I was using Samba as a PDC and everybody logged in with WXP and then they had roaming profiles and all was grand, except sometimes my students had really big pictures and such being saved to their "My Documents." That's bad. When it came time to log off, other students sometimes had to wait 20 minutes. A Bad thing. So, this year, I scrapped

domain administrator
Well, I got my shares problem figured out. I am glad. However, now, I need to do remote installs of my norton antivirus. I can't do it from my machine without being an administrator on these machines. I am not an administrator when logged in as anything. I even set up a account for root, with no success. How do you make a user a domain administrator?

Package "maps": what is the name of county # 2395?
I am using "maps". I am running the following code to get this list of all the counties: map('county', plot=FALSE)$names In the output, all counties have first the state listed and then, after a comma, the name of the county. However, county # 2395 (State = south dakota) has no county name. Anyone knows what this county is? Thank you! -- Dimitri Liakhovitski

mapping states with colors
Hi folks, I'm just learning how to use maps. As an initial foray, I'm mapping the states that have "duty to retreat" (blue) and "stand your ground" (red) self-defense standards. Here is my extremely naive script: dtr <- c('alabama', 'arizona', 'conneticut', 'delaware', 'dist of columbia' , 'hawaii',

Why can Asterisk Auto Attendant pick up on firstring?
Someone will probably tell you with more certainty, but (you don't say but I assume you are talking about FXO) the Caller ID normally comes in between the first and seconds rings, I think you can tell asterisk not to get the CID but if you don't, it waits for it. Also, I remember reading in a modem manual something about the number of rings you had to let your modem ring before doing an

Logical vector-based extraction
Hello, The most part of the program works except that the following logical variable does not get created although the second logical variable-based extraction works. I don't understand what I am doing wrong here. state_pflt200 <- df$p_fatal <200 df[state_pflt200, c("state.name","p_fatal")] I would appreciate receiving your help. Thanks, Pradip Muhuri

4+ Port FXS Analog Device
I'm looking for an inexpensive way to connect 20 analog phones to asterisk. I could get a bunch of Linksys or Sipura boxes but was wondering if there is a more cost effective way? I came across the Mediatrix 1104 and even the Mediatrix 1124 but that comes out to be almost $100/port. I might as well buy inexpensive IP phone. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Waldo

Plotting US States: Issue with filled colors cycling
I'm having issues when trying to do a filled State plot using the maps() package. It seems that the color values aren't being plotted correctly, and I'm not sure why... I've started debugging it, but I'm stuck. I've attached the code that I've got so far. The for loop plots states 1:i. What I'm noticing is that the colors are correct until after Michigan gets

Recommended Network Latency
I'm planning on setting up some remote agents and before doing so, I did some simple PING tests to measure latency. The average latency I got was 250ms. Does anyone have experience in terms of quality of calls when there is such high latency? Can anyone comment? Thanks, Waldo
