Error make_server_info_info3: pdb_init_sam failed!
Hi, Not sure whether you have resolved it. Hope it may help... I got same problem with the following error mesg (on Fedora/Linux) smbd[7287]: [2004/07/14 19:45:42, 0] auth/auth_util.c:make_server_info_info3(1100) smbd[7287]: make_server_info_info3: pdb_init_sam failed! In my case, check "use ldap" using authconfig. or enable it manually in /etc/nsswitch.conf will resolve the issue.

Cross subnet browsing + vpn
Hi All, I'm having a problem with cross subnet browsing and name resolution across an openvpn tunnel. i've found quite a few people who've had the same on mail lists but none of their fixes have worked. The spec of the setups at both ends of the tunnel are as follows: OS - CentOS 5.5 Samba Version 3.5.4 OpenVPN Version 2.0.9-1 Each server is configured in gateway mode with two NICS,

WG: Cross subnet browsing + OpenVPN
What about your openvpn config? The tun net must have an entry in your hosts allow. If you work with briding the remote network has to be the same subnet as the local!? Bridging is the best way to have a remote net integrated. I have one logging in form Berlin on my Samba-Domain. Transferring user profiles to new domain
It's been a while, but as I remember "Teach Yourself Samba in 24 Hours" by Gerald Carter and Richard Sharpe has an entire chapter which walks you through this process. w2k/XP won't join samba pdc
Hi I'm sure this must have come up before - if so I apologise. I have googled, read HOWTOs FAQ and numerous personal accounts on how to configure samba as a PDC but to no avail - neither w2k nor XP will join the domain. NT4 Workstation and Win9x I have working fine - where have I gone wrong ? Linux SETUP: RedHat 7.3, samba-2.2.7-3.7.3 (upgraded from 2.2.3a) Win2k SETUP: Win 2000 Pro,

provisioning fails
I would like it to provision a domain or have had no response on irc or the samba maing list as to why it fails. Having the wiki howto up to date would not be a bad idea either. <br> The wiki and most other online resources indicate the one should use the "provision" command. This command is no longer available in the S4RC you must use samba-tool to accomplish the task. sudo

User mapping?

As far as I am aware, not with your setup, If you were using ldap or running AD, then yes, you could allocate an exact ID to each user and group. Rowland

FreeBSD 5.4 SMP kernels now available via FreeBSD Update
It sounds like the SMP kernel I provided for FreeBSD 5.3 was quite popular, so I've started building an SMP kernel for FreeBSD 5.4 as well, in addition to the usual GENERIC kernel. To take advantage of this on your FreeBSD 5.4 SMP system, run the following commands as root: # touch /boot/kernel/SMP # freebsd-update fetch # freebsd-update install # echo 'bootfile="SMP"'

Creating a new Samba BDC and promoting to PDC
If I go with the suggestion to just set up a new AD-DC server, how do I move my data to this from the old server (which uses TDBSAM)? Samba3beta3 + PDC + LDAP + UsrMgr.exe prob
Heya all, So I've finally got a machine on this Samba 3 domain. Yey. Its an XP Pro box, so I grabbed the UsrMgr.exe and SrvMgr.exe programs from Microsoft, and hoped to at least use UsrMgr to see lists of users, maybe even as a full User manager, since I can't find a decent one that does all the samba3 stuff. Anyway, I'm on the domain, and I run the UsrMgr.exe program and I get an

OT: really dumb question about APC UPS
We have about 4 servers connected to an APC UPS. The UPS only has one UPS connection. So my question is, in a power outage how do i get all my servers to safely shutdown? Do i run a USB hub? Do i write a script on the one machine connected to turn off all the other machines? I'm confused. Jamie

feature request: restart on timeout
I'm currently in Egypt, and my Internet connection goes up and down a lot. rsync --partial --timeout is great, especially when combined with a little script that checks whether it failed due to timeout, and in that case starts the transfer up again. I think it would be a good feature for rsync to support itself. Something like: --auto-restart When a timeout occurs, automatically restart the

tftpd resends option ack during transfer
Uploading a >32MB file from a recent curl to tftpd fails because when the block number rolls back to 0, tftpd transmits the option ack again, instead of transmitting an acknowledgment for the block received. You don't see this problem when using the bundled tftp client because it doesn't set any of the options when uploading a file. Attached is a patch that fixes this, tested against

feature request: create remote directory
I have a program that copies pictures to a web server using rsync. Typically it will do something like copy IMG_1234.JPG to server:/www/docroot/YEAR/MONTH/DAY, where the appropriate numbers are inserted for YEAR/MONTH/DAY. Currently the only way to do this with rsync is to locally create YEAR/MONTH/DAY and then tell rsync to copy it. I would like a syntax which would tell rsync to create a

enable client to join domain with no or any password?
I am trying to automate W7 joining to our Samba domain. It works fine through the Windows GUI from the W7 workstations. However, for a script one would have to store password used for domain access, and since that is the server's root password, I really don't want to hard code that into a file. Is there a way to set (temporarily) a Samba server so that it will accept (admin/anything) as

Dovecot can't read mail, creates duplicate directories
CentOS 6.5, dovecot 2.0.9-7 I used http://www.linuxmail.info/postfix-dovecot-ldap-centos-5/ to configure LDAP authentication for postfix and dovecot. I can log in to dovecot via IMAP, but it cannot read messages. It does wind up creating alternate directories though: [joliver at localhost ~]$ sudo ls -l /var/vmail/ total 8 drwx------. 3 vmail vmail 4096 Sep 10 15:00 testuser1 drwx------. 3
