Can't access remote server
RedHat 9, samba-2.2.7a-8.9.0. Fresh install. No iptables or any firewall settings. I can access my server fine locally with smbclient, but using smbclient from a machine located in a network I get this: [kwang@gorgon kwang]$ smbclient //webdev.ic2.org/home added interface ip=24.243.211.67 bcast=24.243.223.255 nmask=255.255.240.0 added interface ip=192.168.0.2 bcast=192.168.0.255

smbclient
I am receiving this error randomly when using smbclient to access pc shares : FINDFIRST gave ERRSRV - (Non-specific error code.) I use smbclient with Amanda to backup pc shares. For amanda to work, it uses smbclient to recursively scan through the entire directory tree and get total MB size of each directory. The problem is that when trying to enter some directories it gives the above error and

Samba as PDC across multiple physical sites
Does anyone have Samba set up to provide file, print, and authentication services across multiple physical sites? We're thinking of setting up a DSL-based VPN with Samba servers at each location, but we'd want to keep the user accounts and data synchronized between sites. Thanks, Chris

Make/Break ratio for Pulse Dialing
Thanks for your suggestion. I have compiled according to http://www.voip-info.org/wiki/index.php?page=Asterisk+zaptel+pulse +dialing dialing at 10 pps works fine with Asterisk with the newly compiled wctdm. but when I dial at 20 pps, the pulses cannot be decoded correctly. I tried changing the make/break ratio but dialing at 20 pps still has the decoding problem. Does anyone have any

Cups problems while compiling WINE
Just tried to compile WINE on opensuse 11 64bit. I did everything as described here: WineOn64bit - The Official Wine Wiki (http://wiki.winehq.org/WineOn64bit#head-b3c0054e075385ab599d63a46dba9d6c3934d6c0) But running the configure script I'm getting that message: Code: configure: libcups development files not found, CUPS won't be supported. That means that the printer output isn't

Mdk 9.1, samba-LDAP 2.2.8a/3.0b3 (LDAP) can't print to z53
I've not been able to get Samba to print to a Lexmark Z53. If I call it a Z52, the driver uploads (to where, I have no idea so I can't check it) but I still can't get anything out of the printer.

Retry: RedHat, XFS, and ACL Support
Purpose: Create a File Server that can replace our windows file server. System Details: RedHat 8 Kernel 2.4.18-18 SGI XFS 1.2.0 2 disks 1 for the filesystem ext3 1 for the shares using xfs Most of the threads and articles I read about doing this told me that I had to recompile the kernel for acl support. Then I found a post that mention that XFS has built in ACL support. Which

Full wNT/w2K ACL conformance
We are planning to replace a quite big domain running W2K with Samba ( at the very least, the DC ). Though i'd love to have the extra security capabilities of W2K ( Kerberos ) as a DC, Samba/NT4 as PDC/BDC with ldapsam will more than suffice for now. The show-stopper right now is this: we need to be able to assign "real" Full Control permissions: a user who has "Full

compile samba-2.2.8 with libcups support?
First of all, thank you very much for your fast answers. Congratulations, samba is a great product. This is possibly a newbie question, but I am not able to compile samba-2.2.8 with libcups support. >From the options that appear running "./configure --help", only "--enable-cups" seems to be related to the problem. However, after compilation the "smbd" executable

Slow file copying from Server to clients
Hi, I have posted this issue once but have not yet had a reply to it. Not sure maybe no one has an answer but I will try again. I have a linux box running SuSE 8.2 with samba 2.2.7-a58. Everything works well except when clients workstations copy files to their workstations, in particular my client running Mac OS X. Mac OS X supports the SMB protocol. I had a look at the logs but could not see

I have created printers with cups and declared them to samba with cupsaddsmb command. All seems to be ok. I can print from my Linux server. But, when I want to print from ny windows2000 station: - I can find my linux server - I can find and connect printers

I've always HATED printing with Samba
Primarily because I've never gotten it to work despite frequent efforts. Offeding printer is a Lexmark Z53 (supposedly fully supported) and when ever I try to add it to an XP box I get "Server doesn't have the right driver, do you wish to upload the driver?" then when I do it says "Cannot connect to the printer. Contact your network administrator yatta yatta

Hi Kurt, I've read the new document. It's a very fine piece of technical documentation. However, it doesn't help me in the present predicament. Going now by this book I'm only getting more frustrated. What are your versions of Samba, CUPS(?), OS, and Printer again? 2.2.8a, 1.1.18, SuSE 8.2 w/2.4.20-62, Lexmark C720 I'm stuck! I would

I think I successfully saved z by save(z, file = "qda.dat") but when I tried to load by load("qda.dat") and call predict(qda.dat, test)$class, it gives me error

Samba PDC + WinXP = problems fetching remote profiles
Hi, everybody! I have 20 WinXP client machines and a sever running Samba (first try was with 2.2.8, now it's 3.0.0rc1). I almost had no problems configuring samba for browsing and fortunately i
