Cannot get DOMAIN ADMINS to work
Hi list,
After reading a lot in the mailing list and the official Samba 3 howto,
i am still unable to give domain admin rights to a user, so that he gets
admin rights on all workstations in the domain.
Here is what i have:
- Samba 3.08 PDC, config:
[global]
workgroup = ANT
netbios name = ANTSRV
netbios aliases = RUN KITS HOMES LIB PRINTERS
server string = ANT Samba

net join echoes root password
Hi list,
# net join
asks for the root password (seems to be new).
This is not a problem, but when i do:
# ssh root@remote_host net join mydomain
the root password is echoed on the terminal.
Is this expected behaviour? (I hope not).

Printers not visible to other users
Hi all,
I run a 3.0.8 Samba PDC with WIN XP SP2 clients. I configured printing
(lprng) with drivers uploaded to the server for easy printer
installation on the clients.
This works like a charm: I can drag'n drop printers from the server's
printer share or install them with the local "Add printer" wizzard.
I do this as a domain admin on the client and it works fine.
BUT: If

Permission error on /etc/samba/private/secrets.tdb
Hi list,
I have a strange permission problem with secrets.tdb on an nfs mounted
filesystem.
A strace of smbd shows the following lines:

fcntl64(4, F_SETLKW64, {type=F_WRLCK, whence=SEEK_SET, start=0, len=1},

change_to_user: Invalid vuid used 101
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Hello!
I'm running into an issue where users log into their Win2k/NT4.0
workstations, download their profiles off of our Samba 2.2.5 server,
map home, miscellaneous shares, and printers on it, and then randomly
during their session they cannot open these remote devices. They
receive an "Access Denied" message when trying to do anything

Make PXElinux beep
Hi all
We are using some old SUN Monitors which won't display anything until
the OS is up and running, supplying the correct sync.
To let users know, when to select from the (unvisible, but known) menu,
i would like to output a beep when pxelinux is waiting for input.
Googling shows that this question has been raised several times and the
proposed solution was to insert a CTRL/G in the

samba log filled with Invalid vuid message
Today, in only a few hours, the samba log file has been filled (up to
10G!) with this message;
[2006/06/15 16:48:24, 2] smbd/uid.c:change_to_user(247)
change_to_user: Invalid vuid used 100 in accessing share disco5.
Our current samba version is samba-3.0.21c, and it has been running
without any problem for a month.
Any ideas about what happened?
Thanks in advance.

Unable to Connect to OpenVMS Pathworks
This is my first time posting on this list, so please excuse me if this
is the wrong list to post on (if it is please just let me know). I've
recently upgraded my old Redhat 8.0 box to Redhat Fedora Core 8 which
comes with Samba 3.x while my old Redhat 8.0 box had Samba 2.x. On my
old box I had SMB map a drive from an older OpenVMS server using
Pathworks. I performed this by simply doing:

file limits using SAMBA
Is there a limit to the number of files that can be seen through SAMBA
Shares. We currently have approximately 120,000 files (and growing)
under business related shares under our current Pathworks environment.
With being in the process of transferring over to SAMBA we need to
ensure that all the files are viewable.
It may be advisable to split these shares across several disks on our

Slow Printer Connection (net use ... )
net use lpt1: \\node\prt
On a slow VMS Box with pathworks this cmd runs in 1 sec.
On a Dual 1G Linux Box with 2.2.7 samba it takes about 7-8 seconds on a 350 PC.
I am using lprng and loading the printers from the printcap file.
Does anyone have any idea's on how to speed this up?
I tried it on several samba servers and it works the same on all of them.

Dissapearence of samba servers.
We have a LAN network consisting mostly of Win95 machines, with a couple
of NT boxes and 3 Linux-based Samba servers. Throw in a VAX running
Pathworks and a partridge in a pear tree.
Anyway, it seems that since Monday all three of the Samba boxes have
dissapeared from the browse lists (from the POV of the Windows users).
Typing in \\server only gives a "Network name not found error."

Hallo,
das Subject sagt schon fast alles.

nachdem ich vor vielen jahren Pathworks-Server durch ein OS/2-Serversystem

Wir nutzen File- und Printservices. Das ist alles. Die Anzahl der User

Linux printer shows in Net Neighborhood, but "No Access"
Hello all,
Been using Samba for a looooonnnng time, and with great success I might
add. This is the first time in EVER that I've needed to ask ANYTHING
regarding it, so easy is it to config and admin. Kudos to the Aussie that
wrote it. Even if he initially thought it was Pathworks... 8-)
ANYWAY... I've never really been able to use Samba as a print server. For
some reason, when

Help with accessing shares from win9x using 2.0.6
Hello All,
I recently downloaded, compiled, and installed vs 2.0.6 of samba on a Digital
Unix 4.0E system. I set up security to point to our single NT domain
controller, and set up a user map for those users who don't have identical
Unix and NT Domain usernames. I can access all of the shares correctly from
an NT client. On Win9x, I can map the shares and see the first level

Folder Permissions
Hi All,
Can somebody help me set this up.
I'm trying to set up a public folder on my SAMBA server which will let
my users create their own folders to store their files.
And not let everyone delete them.
Following are the problems I'm having:

/exports/public directory with ~/public set to 755

List of magic wins numbers
Hi,
I am looking for a list of theses special magic numbers that a samba
server (or a windows box) registers with at a wins server.
I already know of <00> as a ordinary name, <1b> as a domain. But what's
the rest? Is there a list anywhere? Perhaps somewhere in the docs? I
have searched them but haven't found anything yet.
Thanks,
Christopher

What is vuid?
I'm getting the following errors in my error logs:
ERROR! vuid 100 did not map to a valid vuser struct!
At the time this error was being created I was trying to add a domain user as
a local admin. I was trying to get the browse list of domain users up, but
being denied.
Cheers
