Logins require local admin membership on Windows XP
Hello, This is my first post to this list so if I break any rules be gentle :) I will try to put in as much detail into this as I can, here I go: We have a domain at work with Samba (samba-3.0.10-1.fc2) as the PDC. The Linux box is running FC2 as the rpm suggests running on a 2.6.5-1.358smp kernel. The problems that we exhibit is that unless you have your domain account made a member of the

Hello Dear Samba Users, I have sucessfully set a samba share on a centos 7 box (samba 4.6.2) and succeeded into make work snapshots (vfs_shadow_copy2 with xfs and lvm). The snapshots appears well in windows previous versions. However, I expected to go further with snapshots and use the options "shadow:snapprefix" and "shadow:delimiter"in order to filter daily, weekly

Unix to SMB Password Sync using PAM
Hello, I would like to configure PAM to sync Unix passwords to Samba passwords. When I add a new Unix user or change an existing Unix user's password, I want the same password to be stored in /etc/smbpasswd. I'm trying to follow these instructions: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/pam.html#id2606200 It sounds like this is what I want to do: "A sample

ACL's vs Share definitions (Trying again)
I have the Win2000 client(s) in a Samba domain. Domain authentication works fine, my "homes" share works fine, remote profiles work fine. Using 3.0.1Pre1 I would like to add people to "someshare" through the Security tab, and control their access through windows ACL's. How should I setup a share as a basis for doing this? The share below (someshare) in this email

Strange issue with share access on domain controllers
Hi list, I've a strange issue with Windows 7 (also occurs on 8.1) when accessing shares on domain controllers. If I use IP address or in-domain FQDN (server.domain.name), all is right. If I use another DNS entry pointing to the same IP, share access fails with following message (translated from french) : \\somehost.somsuffix\someshare is not accessible. […] Invalid parameter Issue

Dispelling Myths About Samba Encrypted passwords, NT_STATUS_LOGON _FAILURE and XP
Hi, I've been using samba for a while now with relatively simple configurations. I do however have a few questions: * When using encrypted passwords with samba, is it possible to authenticate users using the Unix user password(/etc/passwd)? * When using smbclient I get the error NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE: added interface ip=192.168.1.1 bcast=192.168.1.255 nmask=255.255.255.0 Password:

Valid users question
Hi, I've a question about the syntax of the valid users option. Any help is greatly appreciated! Here is the Background: samba 3.0.4 Linux as Domain Member Active Directory, not in Native Mode Compiler opions: --with-winbind --with-pam --with-smbmount The goal is to authenticate via the Windows Domain and allow access via Windows groups. The syntax in my smb.conf looks like this:

Windows XP, samba 2.2.7a; delayed write failure
Hello all, Summary - - - - - - - - - - I am looking for suggestions, solutions, and assistance with a problem involving Windows XP in a samba-2.2.7a workgroup with domain logons and no PDC. Other WinXP clients don't seem to be affected, so I'm endeavoring to isolate what the problem could be. Detailed Notes - - - - - - - - - - - I have a windows XP client. It was once a Windows XP

Ldap user's X Samba User's
Hi everybody... I get something sucess for implementing samba+ldap, in Red hat Linux Box. How ever, I get I can't log in to samba domain. I can insert my NT/2000 in a Domain, but all of my users can't log in to samba. Of fact, if I use smbpasswd -a <user>, the <user> can log in to PDC. But, my question is: the samba don't get all information about the

ACL's and permissions
I'm really struggling with ACL's and permissions. I have a share owned by a user (douglas). Douglas can read, write and create to the share: [public] comment = Public Stuff path = /home/samba/pub nt acl support = yes public = yes admin users = douglas write list = douglas I'm logged in to Win2000 as douglas. Through the security tab on Win2000 I add read and

Cannot authenticate new ldap users (unless they are in /etc/passwd too)
Hi, I migrated a PDC to use an ldap backend and am having fun with a few last issues.. Existing user accounts and machine accounts were migrated, and existing users can authenticate. Now I've added some new users and none of them can authenticate. e.g. for the user "inktec". The user can login via SSH, but not mount a share: smbclient \\\\server3\\someshare -U=inktec mypassword

WinXP. Samba and Router connection problem
Hi, I have samba-2.2.8 installed on Slackware 9.0. I'm able to use smbclient from this linux machine to access all the services defined in smb.conf. I installed the WinXP_SignOrSeal.reg patch to my WinXP Pro machine. When I attempt to access samba services from the WinXP PC, it fails: c:> net use L: \\MYLINUX\tmp System error 53 has occurred. The network path was not found. I have

username map with “security = ads”
Not tested, just brain farts ;-) Setup a member, Allow guest access. ( in global : guest ok = yes ) This allow local users to access the server ( not shares ) On the shares Deny "domain users" and/or authenticated users. Allow the local group for local users. Not tested but technicaly is could work. Which is almost the same as a standalone with and without user authentication.

different mask for directory inside another share
Hello, let's assume we have: [$someshare] path = /some/path create mask = 0644 directory mask = 0755 Within /some/path there's directory named dir1 for example (/some/path/dir1). Is it possible to define alternative masks for that particular directory without presenting it as a different share. My second question - is it possible to define write list for /some/path/dir1 only. --

Samba conf. problem - NetBIOS problem?
Thanks to those who wrote and suggested I remove NetBEUI from my Win95 machines. Here's the next chapter in the story: First, based on another suggestion, I tried "netstat -a" on the Win95 machine "secretary". It didn't show any kind of traffic on ports 137-139 (even though files WERE being shared at the time). Next, I tried removing NetBEUI from
