Default Posix ACLs are ignored when copying files between two directories using Windows (XP)
I have tried to read the documentation, but I was not able to find a clear solution to my problem. I run Samba 3.0.14a on a Debian system with Posix ACLs. I have a share on a file system that uses Posix ACLs, and I have two directories in that share. Both directories have default ACLs set, so that every new file (or directory) created under each directory (by Windows XP/2000 clients)

Printer drivers on a samba 2.2.8a server: how?
I'd like to set up my samba 2.2.8a server to serve printer drivers to clients when needed. I have set up the print$ share, in which I still have no drivers. Tried adding drivers from a win2000 workstation by using "server properties" command, I can't add anything since all buttons are greyed out. The user I am using is in the printer admin group in smb.conf. I

Grant or deny internet access based on Samba domain logon?
I am looking for some way to grant or deny internet access (that is, changing iptables rules) based on Samba domain logon. When a user logs on, I would like to run a script that modifies firewall rules based on the group that the user belongs to (this determines if he has internet access or not) and based on the workstation's IP address (so I know which IP address to grant internet access

Proper use of tdbbackup
I have googled a lot, but I have found no examples of the correct use of the tdbbackup program. I am looking for some advice on how to use tdbbackup. I mean, I know I can simply run "tdbbackup *.tdb", but I was looking for in-depth information on when and how to use it, about best practices on using it, or what NOT to do. The Samba documentations says I should run it in my start/stop

Shares get disconnected and cannot reconnect over VPN
Hello samba, I have an issue with OpenVPN 2.0 and Samba 3.0.14a. My setup consists in a routed VPN (thus server and clients are on different subnets) between a linux OpenVPN 2.0 server and some Windows 2000 VPN clients. Samba is the PDC and is a WINS server. The VPN clients work, broswing works, and I see the clients registering on the server's WINS in

Questions about mutiple providers
Hi, this is my first post to the list. I have googled a lot, and still cannot find a proper solution. I hope someone here will be able to shed some light on my doubts. I have set up a firewall using kernel 2.6.15 (Debian) that does NAT for 100 clients, and uses two different ISPs, using the howto found at http://lartc.org/howto/lartc.rpdb.multiple-links.html. I have *not*

Mapping Samba Server as a drive?
Hi, I was just wondering whether can we map a samba server as a drive? If can, it would be GREAT! This is because we can make users who log on to the server see different directories (like novell) and i thought it would be EXCELLENT if we can map the samba server as a drive itself. If we can, how can we achieve that? Thanks. adrian

Samba and Linux ACLs
Hi Samba folks, let me first introduce myself. I'm the guy behind <acl.bestbits.at>, the Linux ACL patch. (The other patch at <http://aerobee.informatik.uni-bremen.de/acl_eng.html> seems pretty much history BTW). A lot of work has gone into that project; we're approaching a very stable release soon... Now people keep asking me over and over again about ACL support in Samba.

Disabling [printers] share
Hi All, I've been trying to tackle this for some time and so far did not find a way to do this. The problem is simple - as I don't enable printing through Samba I'd like to disable it in such fashion that user would not even see the empty Printers share when he lists the available shares. How can I achieve that? Best Regards, Marek C.

Netbios Alias
I am trying to setup a Netbois alias that uses it's own smb.conf file. I have made the following changes to the original smb.conf file: netbois alias = TPUB02 include = /usr/local/samba/lib/smb.conf.%L For some reason the smb.conf file in the include statement does not work. In touble shooting this issue I was able to hardcode the smb.conf file name in the include statement and that does

Samba 3.0.14a vs. 2.0.7, is "include =" recursive?
Hi, I upgraded a mid-sized samba install (+-150 pc's) from Samba 2.0.7 to 3.0.14a last night. It is acting as a PDC and the upgrade went smooth except for one thing. Under 2.0.7, it seems like the "include =" is recursive.. ie: in included files, you can include files. This behavior seems to have changed in 3.0.14a. Can someone confirm this? My setup: smb.conf include =

File owner / group
Hi all, I have a Samba 3.0.13 with ACL support running under SuSE and acting as a PDC for the hole organization. Among some shares, there's one that has about ten subdirectories. Everybody can access this share and restrictions are applied over those subdirs. The problem is that, for example, when I create a file (or modify it with Word or Exel) in the Finances subdirectory, the file has my

Samba Domain Administrator
Hello everyone. I'm using SAMBA version 3.0.9-2.3-SUSE as a PDC and internal mail server (few users in user list) for quite some time and so far so good for what i wanted (Domain logins, shares, users files and backups). My problem is when i need to install software or hardware on a machine (client of the domain - Windows XP Pro). As the users don't have administrator priviledges on their

ACLs as Standard Component in ext3?
To all: I was wondering if there was any talk regarding the possible inclusion into either kernel 2.4.x or 2.5.x of a general and standard ACL interface for file system security. I've used the ACL patch from acl.bestbits.at on ext3 & love it dearly except for the quota issues. Despite those issues I absolutely could not live without ACL's on large file servers with a few hundred or

ext3 and acls?
I tried running ext3 with posix acls (see http://acl.bestbits.at). The patches were easily merged and everything compiled fine. I created a journal.dat on my /home fs and mounted it as ext3. So far everything worked perfectly. But getfacl/setfacl didn't work on ext3. Mounting /home as ext2 solved the problem. Maybe ext3 and ext2 don't share enough code to get it working without rewriting

Using ACLs with Samba 2.2.2 on a 2.4.10 Kernel
Hello out there again! I have a problem with ACLs: I build Samba 2.2.2 with ACL support. ACLs are 0.7.21 (from acl.bestbits.at) on a 2.4.10 Kernel. ACLs are working fine within Linux. When I connect to a Samba share from a Windows NT Workstation or Server, I only see the three standard acls representing world, group and owner. I have several files with acls for testing but non of this acls is

ext3-acl & coreutils
G'day... I've installed the acl - xatrrib patch from bestbits and it works nice on my RH9 system with Samba.. the only problem i encounter is that a file or directory losses it's extended atrributes when you copy it.. for example cp "--preserve=all /source /destination" preserves the normal acl af the linux system, but skips the acl/xattrib from bestbits. i used the
