FAQ or Doc für Samba 3 beta 1 -
Hello everybody,
is there any FAQ or correct documentation for the Samba 3 beta 1 release?
The one in the samba 3 package seems to be in some points incorrect or not
updated.
I need hints to set up Samba 3.0 with winbindd as a member Server in a nt4
Domain and also how to backup nt4 samba shares from a windows box to the
local filesystem on a linux box with samba 3.0 client software. There are

Logon Script Sometimes Does Not Execute
Hi,
I've been searching through the list archives on marc.theaimsgroup.com, and
haven't found many suggestions relating to this problem. What's happening,
is that maybe 5 out of 100 network logons the logon script does not
execute, and none of my drives are mapped. This happens on both NT 4.0
Workstations as well as Windows 2000. It's been happening as long as I can
remember

iconv.c / static charset prototype/assembler bug?
Hi!
I think there is a little bug in the current samba release (3.0.22).
Take a look at cp850.c at the last line and you will see following
definition:
SMB_GENERATE_CHARSET_MODULE_8_BIT_GAP(CP850)
Using the macros from charset.c, the preprocessor expands this to:
NTSTATUS charset_CP850_init(void) \
{ \
return

Yet another charset problem
Hi,
I am well aware that the charset problem has been discussed many times
over. But after two days of googling and testing, I did not make any
progress. I am mounting Windows XP Pro shares with french filenames
on a Linux. The linux is a 2.4.27 kernel with the following settings:
CONFIG_SMB_FS=y
CONFIG_SMB_NLS_DEFAULT=y
CONFIG_SMB_NLS_REMOTE="UTF8"
CONFIG_SMB_NLS=y

Root user problems with Samba 3.0.0beta1
Hello
Anytime I try to do anything with the root user (like join the domain) or
run 'net user' or 'net group' with root, when I enter the correct
password, I get NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL ....
I've been trying more commands, and if I run tdbedit -e=tdbsam (to export
the smbpasswd to tdbsam style), I get this error :
tdb_update_sam: Failing to store a SAM_ACCOUNT for [root]

Charset disaster moving from 2.2.8 to 3.0.4
Hi all!
I'm REALLY depressed!
After moving from samba 2.2.8 to 3.0.4 I can not read my files.
All names are corrupted.
I used NO charset options in the original (2.2.8) smb.conf
(which means that all names are in cp850, doesn't it ?)
No I have installed 3.0.4, libiconv also.
But can not figure out what to set in smb.conf.
I use Solaris 8, LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.KOI8-R.
And windows XP/2000

After Upgrading to rc4 (and still with 3.0.0) having Groupmap problems.
Hi,
Before Samba 3.0.0 RC4 I was running Samba 3.0.0 beta3, and when I
upgraded to RC4, I began having problems with group mappings. I didn't
notice at first, because on my laptop I don't normally log on to the
domain. I just noticed when I tried to use my desktop and log on to the
domain... I don't have Domain Admin privileges.
So, I look at 'net groupmap list' ... and it

Capital Letters - Charset problem
Hello,
I have a strange problem with samba 3.0.1 on suse 8.1, when I mount an
NT shared directory the accented capitals letters are not recognised.
Everything works fine except for files having accented *capitals*.
My smb.conf has:
unix charset = ISO-8859-15
display charset = ISO-8859-15
dos charset = CP850
unicode = No
I tried compiling libiconv and recompiling samba with it, but with no

Charset problem
Hi all!
I just migrated to Samba 3.0. I'm using Spanish Windows clients, and when I
create a file with a spanish character in its filename (ie: men?), in
Windows Explorer it looks ok, but when I do "ls" in Linux I get something
slightly different (ie: men??). This didn't happen in samba 2.x (I was
previously using the now missing option charset="iso-8859-1").
I tried

scandinavian letters or charset problem?
Hi!
This teamware mailclient (teamware.com) that we use at the office has
problems adding files as attachments from our Samba 3.0.2a share. The
attachment file browser sees the files but fails to add them as
attachments (with an error message: "valid.stf - file not found"
regardless of the file name in question). I tracked this thing down to
scandinavian letters (if your mail

Samba AD - Issue with winbindd: Could not write result
I've implemented AD samba in our structure almost one month, after almost two months of tests. Everything is working, including GPO, although we are still adapting to the new way of working, after all AD domains is quite different from NT domains.
But I have experienced strange problems with the winbindd, which has happened at least 3 times.
Suddenly users can no longer authenticate, and

Character set conversion problems with 3.0
I've just compiled Samba 3.0.0 on a Solaris 8 system (gcc, if it
matters), and whenever I run anything from the samba suite, I get a
series of error message about character set conversions:
Conversion from UCS-2LE to CP850 not supported
Conversion from UTF8 to CP850 not supported

and about 10 more, all involving CP850 (the "standard" DOS codepage,
presumably). Now,

Hi:
I've just installed Samba 3.0.0 on FreeBSD 4.9-RELEASE, and it appears to
work correctly, but I get the following errors when running 'net' or 'smb*'
commands. The install was from source with no changes made to default. i.e.
'./configure; make; make install'.
