Samba Shares and Win32 Viruses
Hi Collective users of Samba, (does has a nice ring to it eh?)
Recently I found a my samba server being infected by win32 viruses.
Though it does not affect the server in any way, I do find them to be
an annoyance.
I understand also that I can perform "veto" of files like *.exe in smb.conf
but find that to be a wee bit restrictive. There are some users who
stores valid executables in

Need installation help of SAMBA on UNIX Sun- Solaris version 8 platform
Dear Mr. Andrew Tridgell,
I am new to samba. I understood that it allows you to share the files
from Microsoft windows env. and UNIX environment.
I need to install the software on my UNIX machine.
Do I need the license?
I downloaded the following file.
samba-latest.tar.gz I copied to UNIX env. and gunzip and tar to extract all the files. Is
this correct step?
I will appreciate, if

Samba Domain Emu
Hi
I have read that Samba can emulate an NT Domain. Is this still possible?
I dont see much about it listed anymore. Is it still supported in
2.2.8a. Does anyone have any information concerning this? We would like
our version to do this so we can do some testing with one of our NetApp
880's.

samba problem on Mandrake 9.0
Happy New Year to everyone:
I have followed the instructions at shorewall.net/samba.htm. I''ve
restarted the samba server, shorewall, rebooted, everything. And from my
network I cannot browse available shares on the firewall (192.168.1.1)
telnet 192.168.1.1 138 fails with connection refused, which I don''t
understand. All other open ports respond with a string.

Samba 2.5 PDC + WinXP problem
Hey ppl !
My WinXP workstations are not able to join my domain. I tried to apply the registry fix for plain-text passwords but it has no effects :(
My PDC seems to work fine cause i've got no problems with Win2K Workstations...
Is there anything i've omitted ?

Amaury

2 (Suse), one NT 4 server machine and 5 user databases???
I currently have a setup of 1 NT 4.0 PDC server and to SUSE boxes
sharing via a samba share. I seem to have to make 5 different
usename/password databases. 1 for NT, 2 for each SuSe box (One Linux
and one Samba). Is there a way to have 1 or maybe two databases to
update? I've read about LDAP on other connections but I'm a little
confused as to what is the best approach.

Adding XP to a samba domain
Bare with me please :-)
I know this question has probably been asked before but a quick overview of
the archives didn't help me out.
Couple of parts
1. Can a samba domain be established that doesn't require registry hacks on
an XP machine to add the XP machine?
2. What would a VERY basic smb.conf file look like that creates a samba
domain for W2K and XP machines?
3. Does anyone

Can't use mount command with samba
I have a home network based on Win XP Pro, with one Linux machine
running Red Hat 9. All updates have been applied. There's no domain
controller.
I can connect from the Linux machine to the XP machines via Konqueror
using
smb://mymachine/myshare
However, I can't use the mount command.
I'm trying to use syntax like
mount -t smbfs -o username=myname,password=mypwd //192.168.0.1

Login from win2k client to samba PDC
I have joined my win2k client machines (win2k professional or win2k
professional server) to my PDC. This worked fine and I did all recommended
as e.g. in the HOWTO
http://hr.uoregon.edu/davidrl/samba/samba-pdc.html#joining.
So far I can also login localy to the win2k client machines using a local
account and connect a network drive from the PDC using a valid account on
the PDC (as given in the

Using ssh as a wrapper
Has anyone tried to wrap your SMB session inside another TCP protocol
like SSH?
I'm trying to sync files across two linux machines but my broadband
provider is blocking SMB and port 139 traffic.
If anyone has any information it would be greatly appreciated.

Problems joining a Samba domain
Hi,
I am trying to set up a SAMBA-PDC for our school's network and
find a strange Problem with two Win2k workstations.
When I try to join the SAMBA domain I receive an error which says
the user account - I am using root - is unknown.
I call this "strange" because other Win2k machines on the very
same subnet work correctly - and what is even stranger:
I can manually access all

architecture-specific stuff in xend
Hi Ewan, I''m almost ready to integrate some PPC-specific stuff into
xend, and I was wondering if you had a plan for how that should work.
First example: the device tree data structure we talked about a few
weeks ago. We will need to pass the config data to PPC code, probably in
XendDomainInfo.initDomain(), and then pass the resulting data structure
into libxc''s xc_linux_load()

Advice on setting up a PDC.
I have been asked to set up a Linux Samba file server as well as set
up user-level access control for a medium sized real estate agency.
Currently, the office is a on a single workgroup and there is only one
UID for all users.
The owner wants to set up individual accounts and server spaces for
each agent. Until I can convince him that converting everyone to Linux
workstations, I have to support

Mounting encrypted WinXP shares with smbmount
I've been having problems mounting WinXP shares with Samba 2.2.7a & 2.2.8.
I attribute this to WinXP using encrypted passwords, but I've set my
smb.conf file with "encrypt passwords = yes" and despite a lot of
searching, can't find any other option or flag that might help. Any
suggestions? Thanks.

gidNumber's and ldap backed samba PDC
In the planning process for migrating from NT4 PDC, and external ldap
directory to samba 3.2.8 PDC. The external existing openldap directory is
used currently to support the local uid mapping for the Linux logins and
samba file servers that are members of the current NT4 PDC.
While looking at the existing openldap UIDs and GIDs in use and what the
samba PDC wants to use I see some uid/gid

Mapping Samba Server as a drive?
Hi,
I was just wondering whether can we map a samba server as a drive? If can, it would be GREAT! This is because we can make users who log on to the server see different directories (like novell) and i thought it would be EXCELLENT if we can map the samba server as a drive itself.
If we can, how can we achieve that?
Thanks.

samba ssh
I've got a situation where my webdesigners (win2k) are located on a
different subnet (and location) than the samba server.
I need a way of using a local (to the webdesigners) machine (linux) to use
SSH and port forward to the remote samba server. How does one go about
doing such a thing?
