Hi All,
I'm sure this has been discussed many times but since I do not have

Logwatch - malformed password entry(uid not number)
Hi All,
I've the following in the logs and am wondering why they are there.
I also keep getting emails from SAMBA log-deamon (or something like that).
[2003/05/19 15:24:29, 0] passdb/pdb_smbpasswd.c:getsmbfilepwent(364)
getsmbfilepwent: malformed password entry (uid not number)
It's not really serious (at least to me) but it's a cause for concern. Below
are the details

Can't find samba server after new NIC installed
Hi All,
Perhaps you guys can help me shed some light on this 'problem' I'm
facing.
I recently added another NIC to my samba server. eth0(10.0.0.251) and
eth1(valid dhcp address)
ETH0 was added to connect to another PC that acts as the backup server.
(dedicated connection)
Now, Samba won't come back up.. I can still ssh into the server and all.
Any ideas? I know that the wins

Samba Shares and Win32 Viruses
Hi Collective users of Samba, (does has a nice ring to it eh?)
Recently I found a my samba server being infected by win32 viruses.
Though it does not affect the server in any way, I do find them to be
an annoyance.
I understand also that I can perform "veto" of files like *.exe in smb.conf
but find that to be a wee bit restrictive. There are some users who
stores valid executables in

X flag in smbpasswd?
mksmbpasswd.sh does not create accounts with the X flag in the password
flags field. Does this X matter, and if so, what does it mean? It's not in
the man page.

Need mount -t smbfs to be world/group writable & not only root
Hi,
Need some pointers.
Currently using
mount -t smbfs -o username=xxx,pasword=xxx //servername/sharename /mnt/share
Since I can only mount as root, (not in /etc/fstab)
sudo mount -t smbfs -o username=xxx,pasword=xxx //servername/sharename
/mnt/share
Problem here is.. I can't get group or world writeable permission on the
share. It's a NTFS share but that is not a problem. I can

getent showing wrong gids af
The only thing I know is that tdb files are Trivial DataBase files. So it's a database used by samba to persistently store stuff. The file I was refering to accidentally had "winbind" and "id" in its name, so I just deleted it to see what it gives. Seems I made the right choice.
I have no idea how to view these files though. Maybe someone on the list knows?

Connecting without smbpasswd file
Hi;
We've recently upgraded from Samba 1.7 to Samba 2.2.8 and we're using Samba
to allow our users to connect to their Unix home directories from their
PC's. Under 1.7 users were able to connect by mapping a drive from windows
explorer and entering their unix username and password. Now, when we do
this we get a "Incorrect password or Unknown username" error message.

File Permission Question
Hello All,
Got a little problem that I'm hoping somebody can help me solve. I've
got a samba server set as the office's file server. We have a large common
share that different people put documents in, and are to be modified by
other people. I need to setup samba so that when a new file is created it
is writeable to the entire group, not just the person who created it. Here

I''m using shorewall on my laptop(2 NIC) to connect my desktop to the
Internal LAN.
For some reason, MS''s SQL query analyser is not able to connect to the
SQL server. I alway get the "Server does not exist"
I even tried to connect to it using IP address rather than netbios name
and it still doesn''t work. All of the access is fine. (eg: WEB/ping etc)

Mapping Linux Shares To Windows
Hello,
I have managed to install Samba V. 2.5 on a Red Hat Linux 8.0 box and my Windows clients can see the shares and read/write
appropriately.
How do i map these shares so that they appear as e.g. Drive F: or Drive Z: under Windows Explorer. In a Win2K network , i understand
that we have to write logon scripts and use the net command. But this network ( which consists of 1 linux box and 3

Samba Resources Hog
Hi,
I have a Linux box with 512MB RAM and running Samba 2.2.7. I noticed that
memory is constantly decreasing when I typed free. If I run ps aux, I see
that more and more samba sessions are opened, some by root and some by
users. Is this normal? Won't Samba close unused sessions before opening new
sessions? Or is this a memory leak somewhere.

Norman

It seems that installing VMware has side-effects on Samba.

New users cannot log on, current users okay
I am having a problem with the Samba server that I run. Simply, new users
added to the system cannot log on to the PC's that are controlled from the
Samba server's domain. Users that are already on the system and have been
working for some time seem to be unaffected.
I suspect that the problem may well be related to the 'minor' problem we
experienced with the server the other
