Cups..works on LM8.1, LM8.2 but not LM9
I've been trying every combination possible to get CUPS on LM9 to print to a shared printer on a windows machine. On setting up the printer in printerdrake, On LM8.1 it worked first time. On LM8.2 with the same settings it worked first time. On LM9 it just sits there and laughs at me, with the same settings as LM8.1 and LM8.2. And how do i remove a default printer it thinks it has but

Smbpasswd problem fine before but now ?
I set up a LM ( Linux Mandrake ) machine a 6 or 7 months ago with LM8.2 and samba 2.2.8a. I set up a 5 disk software raid 5 and made 5 accounts and 5 entries into smbpasswd using smbpasswd -an XXXXXX All went fine, nothing out of the usual happened and all users could hammer the raid remotely to see if it died. I have just resurrected the machine, which has been powered down for about 4 months

can smbmount to another Linux but not to NT
I have LM8.2 and samba 2.2.3. When i set up the LM machines i could mount shares on NT machines. But no longer. I can smbmount to another Linux machine with no problems, but I can no longer smbmount to any NT machine. Even though i have valid identical accounts on both the LM and NT machines Looking at the logs from the NT machines, i get wrong or malformed password, from the LM machine I get

Re: samba-server-3.0.4-2mdk
I took your advice late in the day Friday and pointed my urpmi sources at cooker. It took care of the Perl upgrade. I'm hoping to find time for configuration against the Openldap server I built. I really can't believe the Mandrake doc's got me up and running so quickly. I even created accounts in ldap for fellow staff memebers, including the boss, and had them log in. Love the

[PATCH 4/4] rpm: mageia: prefer dnf over urpmi
Mageia introduced dnf as alternative package manager for the next version 6, with the possibility to replace urpmi as primary in the future. As such, prefer dnf over urpmi+fakeroot to download rpm packages. Thanks to Neal Gompa for his heads-up. --- README | 3 +-- src/rpm.ml | 8 +++++--- 2 files changed, 6 insertions(+), 5 deletions(-) diff --git a/README b/README index 79fcfd8..679bf70

what the best ? apt-get? yum or urpmi ?
Hello, I must make a choice concerning the use of a tool used to update rpms: yum, urpmi or apt-get. Personally, I use urpmi every day, without real problems (the dependences, even those of Perl are very well managed), the "hdlist" can be used in several forms , it contains a lot of funtions but, it is not integrated into up2date and does not have a graphic interface that fits Centos3

Re: [PATCH v2 0/3 supermin] URPMI & xz support.
I had to make some changes to the xz patch. The code that was used for conftest had to be modified and I needed to add lzma to the link line. The urpmi patch worked fine. [PATCH 0/4] supermin: use dnf on Mageia
Hi, as pointed out by Neal Gompa, Mageia recently introduced dnf in the distribution (currently only in Cauldron, which is the future Mageia 6), and most probably it will replace urpmi in the future. As such, on Mageia make supermin prefer dnf over urpmi when found, using the same code already used for Fedora. Related change: make test-harder.sh work explicitly also on Mageia

Warning when updating Samba via mandrake update
I've just done a update of Samba from 2.2.4 to 2.2.6. After installing everything it says some files were modified, ie smb.conf, and gives you the option to view the changes. It removed all my shared folders, removed settings from 'global' and changed lines for cups and other bits and pieces. Some changes are highlighted in green and the ones it removes are in red with '-'

yum remove <old kernel pkgs> -- wants to remove a ton of stuff
I've got a Centos 4 box at work, where I noticed a pile of old kernels lying around and no longer needed. I did "rpm -qa | grep -y kernel > list" then edited the list to remove from it the newer kernels, then "yum remove `cat list`". Yum has come up with a list of 71 packages it wants to remove, even though there were only 33 kernel-related RPMs in the list. this
