Printing via smbprint to a WinPrinter
Hi all. I would like to print from a Linux Server to a printer connected to a Windows ME machine. I'm able to connect via smbclient, with smbclient //windowsme/printer -U '' -N and I receive the smb> prompt Now, when I try to print any file, nothing comes out from the printer. The printer is a Canon LBP-810 which, according to www.linuxprinting.org site, is a WinPrinter. My

OT, hardware: new router and a USB winprinter
Well, the router I've had for some years now, that I had DD-WRT on, borked itself. Went out and bought a new one, an Asus RT-AC66U. Now, I've got this 11 yr old cute HP Laserjet... and it's a winprinter. With the version of the DD-WRT I had, all I had to do was send the magic M$ data to it, it would wake up, the lights on the printer telling me that it was installing that. New printer

Printing with CUPS and PDF
Trying to get one Samba server to serve several printers through CUPS and host a virtual PDF "printer" at the same time. I've gotten them working separately, but not together, and I think I know why. In the smb.conf man page under "print command": "With printing = cups, and if SAMBA is compiled against libcups, any manually set print command will be ignored."

time to say good-bye to win 7 / printer is the last blocker
I have picked up the HP LaserJet 1022n on eBay. It is black and white only, but works well with Linux and all versions of Windows I have available. They are generally inexpensive on eBay and the tone is cheap. I can get 4 toner cartridges for around $25 on eBay. It is small, dependable, and makes a good second printer. Most printing is usually black and white. I actually have 3 of them

using lpadmin to add printers in CentOS 7 (v. CentOS 6)
In CentOS 6, I could do: lpinfo -m then pick the model I want and put it as the option to -m in lpadmin (line wrapped): /usr/sbin/lpadmin -p printer -o printer-is-shared=false -o Duplex=None -o Resolution=600dpi -m 'gutenprint.5.2://pcl-g_5e/expert Generic PCL 5e Printer - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.5' -v 'socket://mydomain.edu' Alas, in CentOS 7, no matter what I do, I always get:

printer frustrations
I've got an old HP LaserJet 1018. It's a winprinter. After I bought a new router (to go inside the Verison one), I plugged it directly into my box (ok, via a hub). I run CentOS 6. Before we went on the trip, I could print, I upgraded my system, and this is the first time I'm trying to print... and no joy. I've tried sending the firmware to it via lp -o raw ... -h :9100, and

HP USB printer accepts jobs, but won't print
My HP USB C3180 All-in-one printer accepts jobs, but does not print. A job simply sits in the queue. I haven't used it on this computer for a while. It will print a test page when I connect it. The last line from hp-info -i is 04/07/17 13:26:21 5012 Device communication error hennebry 0 (I've removed some blanks.) Any ideas on how to diagnose this? -- Michael hennebry at

SWAT issue
I have had a RH5.2 server running Samba up for a long time. I upgraded to Mandrake 6.0. It broke Samba, so I reinstalled using the RPM on the CD. Samba works just fine, but SWAT will not! If I try to start it manually (/usr/sbin/swat) it just hangs. In /etc/services I have a line like this: swat 901/tcp In /etc/inetd.conf I have: swat stream tcp nowait.400 root

Sending mail from CentOS7 VM to FX ApeosPort-IV C4475 problem
Hi Folks I'm a long term Linux user but have never used CUPS until this week. I'm trying to print from a CentOS7 VM to a Fuji Xerox ApeosPort-IV C4475 printer which requires a user name to be specified but no password. CUPS reports jobs are complete but nothing appears at the printer. This is what I've tried: 1. I downloaded the linux printer driver from the Fuji Xerox website

Samba printing to unsupported linux printers
I am in somewhat of a dilemma. I purchased a Xerox DocuPrint P8 a while back, and recently have tried to set it up on my linux box as a networked printer. The print drivers are only available in Win*, therefore the printer will never work with linux. (It's a "winprinter") When I tried to set it up using lpr, the page would print about half way, then stop. My question is, is it

Problem printing to windows printer
Hello, I've encountered a problem printing to a windows print share and am uncertain how to go about resolving my problem. From what I've been able to tell, the problem lies in samba. I've got a fedora 13 box with samba installed and running on it. My goal is to print to a windows print share. I am able to use smbclient to query the print server and get a list of shares and

Printing from wine problem - loosing my hair
I have a Ubuntu 9.04 minimalist setup runing on a XEN vps. I only installed a few things like Wine, NX, cups (and cups-pdf), XFCE4. Works like a charm in every way except printing from Wine. I can print from native Linux apps to PDF but I get an error in Notepad and any other wine running app for that matter, StartPage failed. There are no errors in the /var/log/error_log or any mention of the
