Change idle timeout
Hi,
We are using a samba server as a NTLM authenticator for our web filter.
However, Samba closes the SMB connections after 60 seconds of inactivity,
causing connections from the web filter to the Samba DC to get stuck in
CLOSE_WAIT state, and failing to authenticate the users.
Is the some way, other than changing IDLE_CLOSED_TIMEOUT, or (in Samba
3.0.23) commenting the check that closes the TCP

Desperate -- I'll even pay -- winbind/samba -- challenge/resp onse password authentication failed
I think this is acceptable - I get the same output for this command in a
Samba session on a Win2000 domain and it works fine.

plaintext password authentication succeeded
challenge/response password authentication failed

Connecting without smbpasswd file
Hi;
We've recently upgraded from Samba 1.7 to Samba 2.2.8 and we're using Samba
to allow our users to connect to their Unix home directories from their
PC's. Under 1.7 users were able to connect by mapping a drive from windows
explorer and entering their unix username and password. Now, when we do
this we get a "Incorrect password or Unknown username" error message.

Help with critical error
So...
I upgraded via RPMs (actually, I uninstalled 2.2.7, and then installed 2.2.8
because of the dependencies... Is there a better method to upgrading?) this
past weekend.
Monday, end of the day, the entire machine crashed. No unusual
circumstances, it sits there acting as a PDC on a Mandrake 7.2 Pentium 200
with 40MB of ram with not much else going on.
Suddenly the whole machine locks up,

Request for Samba 2.2.8a help with SUN 2.8
Samba Folks,
I have a major problem with Samba 2.2.8 randomly dropping network
connections on our Solaris 2.8 SUN systems and could use some help. On a
random basis Samba will drop network connections and not allow them to
re-established until the PC system is rebooted.
Thank you in advance for any help.
The disconnect error is typically a broken pipe error:

Problem with user level security using [homes]
Hi, I've been trying to setup a "user" only access samba server for my
customers to publish their websites through instead of ftp. We
provide for many different networks that are in many domains that we
don't own, so it seems the "user" security model is the only thing that
would work for us.
However, I've tried many different combinations of restrictions but I

Samba:connection only works one time
Hi all,
using samba 2.2.5; security=server
connecting as user1 (user logged in on PC) works (12:28:55),
disconnecting and connecting as another user2 (not the user logged in on
PC) works too (12:30:22), but disconnecting and connecting again as
user1 (user logged in on PC) fails (12:34:29) as well as user2
(12:38:19).
It seems it works only once and never again after one time logged in as
user2 ?

Configuration options used in compiling Debian Samba 3.0 packages
Sorry if this is more a Debian question than a Samba one. Are the Debian
binary packages for Samba 3.0 on the Samba site compiled with active
directory and kerberos support? Is there a general way to tell what options
were used when compiling Debian packages?

Samba 2.2.7a and XP pro
I have read over the lists and search the web, I know this question has
been asked before, but I've not been able to fix my problem so I'll ask
here.
I have been successful in joining the XP machine to the domain however it
when I try to login to the domain windows instantly kicks up the message:
"Windows cannot connect to the domain, either because the domaincontroller
is down or

Joining WinXp to Samba PDC
After trying to get WinXP (Pro) to try and find my domain so I can log
on I've finally done it, but now when I try and join my WinXP client to
the domain, windows asks me to enter the username and password of an
account with permission to join the domain.
Now which account would this be?? root doesn't work, neither do my other
samba users.
Do I have to create another user or something?

Samba 3.0 + AD + OpenLDAP
Hi everyone!
I've already deployed samba-2.2.7a-2 and enabled openLDAP support. I
now have a machine configured as a domain controller authenticating all
windows users via openLDAP. openLDAP is also authenticating all of our
linux users.
I would like to install Exchange2000 on a windows2000 machine so our
windows users can do calendaring (sendmail already handles all of our
email needs).

LDAP Filter Problem
I was wondering if anyone could help me with this one. I am having trouble
getting LDAP and samba working properly on my Debian Woody box. I am using
OpenLDAP 2.0.27-3 and the unsable packaged Samba version 2.999+3.0 and am
using the samba.schema for my LDAP database.
Whenever I try to join the network using either W2K or smbclient the LDAP
debug log shows that the following filter is being

server allows users as non-guest with bad password
Hi y'all,
I have a little problem with Samba which I hope you can help me with. We
are running Samba 2.0.4 on a Sun Enterprise 4500 with Solaris 7. Clients
are mostly Win 9x and a few NT workstations (and one NT Terminal Server). I
have security = server (password server is the NT Terminal Server). What
happens is occasionally Samba will not let a certain user connect, saying

Win98 goes to sleep on Samba
I have been running RedHat 5.2 and Samba 2.0.3 for the past week or so. My
network is made up of NT servers and 95/98 clients. So far Samba has been
running beautifully - I can use my Samba shares just like they are NT shares.
My only problem is from time to time my Win98 machine "goes to sleep" and
asks me for either a password or an IPC$ password. Generally this happens

samba error message - "broken (and insecure) behavior"
I've seen error messages about this since we installed 1.9.18p10 of samba,
so I went looking in the code for the context.
Here (from password.c) is the context:
/*
* Attempt a session setup with a totally incorrect password.
* If this succeeds with the guest bit *NOT* set then the password
* server is broken and is not correctly setting the guest bit. We

strange Samba - NT4 domain connectivity problem.
Hi all.
I'm having a strange intermittent problem with Samba 2.2.8a losing
connectivity with our PDC and BDC. We are currently having a problem
with our PDC restarting due to a bug check about 2-3 times a month.
When this happens and the PDC is restarted or anytime it is restarted,
we are not able to map shares on any of our 5 servers using samba 2.2.8a
- the fix is to kill smbd and nmbd

NT account locking out
Hi
I have Win2k servers connecting to the samba server by mapping a windows
user to unix user.
We never had any problems with thsi connectivity but for past 2 weeks we
have an erratic problem which causes the windows account to lock thus
making samba unfunctional. When I get the windows account unlocked then
samba starts functioning properly again.
I do not have a scenario to reproduce the

Can't Find Password
I am running Samba 3.0 HEAD with LDAP 2.0. I have ldapsam enabled buy when
I try to log into my server from a W2K machine I get the following in my
error log:
sam_password_ok: NO NT password stored for user root.
The log file shows that Samba successfully retrieved the root posixAccount
record and the log displays some of the data (i.e. home directory) that is
stored for root in LDAP. The

samba, openldap, smbldap tools
Hi-
I'musing the smbldap tools to create ldap entries for user logins through
samba. I was just wondering if anyone knew what format userPassword is
stored in. Is it an md5 hash? Thanks!!
