Time attributes in LDAP SAM
I am updateding my LDAP presentation
(ftp://kalamazoolinux.org/pub/pdf/ldapv3.pdf) to include a section on
the Samba 2.2.x LDAP backend. But I can't find any definititive
documentation on the "time" attributes: pwdLastChange, pwdMustChange.
Either how the time is encoded or exactly what they mean. I've seen
post saying they are hexidecimal (although they don't look it)

But when i try to login with a W2K Workstation (havn't tested other
OS'es) then i can type in the username/password - then it takes about 5

Win NT 4.0 clients give error C0000078 when login to Samba PDC
Hi all,
I've tried searching all over the net for any information about this
error but can't seem to find any.
I've compiled Samba 2.2.8a on a RH Linux 7.3 box (kernel 2.4.18-3) with
lsapsam support against openldap 2.0.23-4. I'm also using pam_ldap such
that all authentication (unix + samba/windows) is done through LDAP,
which is working quite nicely.
However, none of my NT

Samba 3 by Example - chapter 5 & 6 ( Manager ->sambaadmin)
Well I am glad that there has been alot of input on this topic, alot of
people are having different opinions but that is because we are not focusing
with the problem at hand.
The documentation provides full details on how to get samba + ldap working
from scratch; but there seems to be a gap between chapter 5 & 6;
Once again I will say I love this book; by far the best technical reference

Winbind Daemon fails to start, group shares no longer functioning
Hello All,
I am currently having an issue with my samba PDC. I have recently updated
to 3.6.5 Samba, and have made what i believe to be the correct changes in
my config to account for the changes to the idmap system. My setup is as
follows, SAMBA PDC on RHEL 6.2, which authenticates passwords through
Kerberos, and Deals with user profiles via LDAP. I had about 25 Windows
clients which were able

Problem creating Samba Admin account
I am trying to create a Samba Admin account in FDS as per the final steps of
http://directory.fedora.redhat.com/wiki/Howto:Samba
I've asked about this on the FDS mailing list with no luck, I am hoping
someone here will be able to help me.
I've created a file with contents:
Administrator:x:0:0:Samba Admin:/root:/bin/bash
I then ran:
/usr/share/openldap/migration/migrate_passwd.pl

Issues with print command group membership
Hi,
I have a Samba print share set up, with a "print command" specified
that just cats the file to /dev/ulpt0. This share is accessed by the
guest Samba account, which I have set to be the 'smbguest' username.
I can manually run the print command as root, and the file prints.
I can manually run the print command as 'smbguest' (through sudo) and
the file prints.

XP gives Access denied for domain logon
Samba 3.0.2a-Debian

I have a somewhat working PDC server, but have some difficulties adding
more users. I managed to create a user, anna, a couple of days ago, it
she works fine from my wireless laptop.

To sort out some problems I have with the logon.bat script [see
sambalist "Netlogon script executes randomly"], I am also including my
desktop computer to the domain.

Question regarding Samba and security = share
I am really new to configuring and maintaining samba, and have what I
belive should be a quick question.
I have recently installed Samba 2.2.2 on a Solaris 8 server. I need to
make a directory on the samba server accessable by a small group of people
here at work. The users who will be connecting to the samba share do not
have accounts on the samba server. The are coming from Windows 2K boxes

SSHD relative pathing problem
Hi :)
I hope this isn't just a problem in my understanding, but anyway.
I am using `OpenSSH_6.2, OpenSSL 1.0.1e 11 Feb 2013` on an Arch Linux
system, and I got caught out on this error for several days, and I'm not
sure if its a bug for you guys or what.
Anyway, what I noticed, was that when I specifyied a custom HostKey in the
host file or by relative path, that is:

samba-ldap and password expiration
Hello every body,
i am using samba (2.2.8a) with ldap support. In the samba.schema,
there are special attributes relatives to the user passord:
pwdMustChange, pwdCanChange, kickoffTime, logoffTime, logonTime and
pwdLastSet.
All the samba's documentations i can found described those attributes
as "currently unused", execpt the last one that represent the time
modification since 1970.

Setup of a new PDC with Samba 3.2.0
Hello,
I setting up a new PDC for a new domain using samba 3.2.0
I use LDAP as passwd/idmap backend.
I started from scratch just creating the OU for the
users/groups/machines/idmaps in the ldap directory, + a user used to bind
to ldap.
So from there I started winbind and ran net sam provision, which worked
great.
Now I plan this domain will have a one way trust with one other domain,

Samba Win2k problem
I have a samba server version 2.2.7a-8.9.0 running on RedHat 9.0. It is acting as a domain controller. I have some win2k clients logging in to this domain and mapping home shares, shared drives, etc. The network the servers are on is 1000Mb and the client networks are all 100Mb. The client networks are linked via 1000Mb uplink. The problem I'm having is that when a user copies a fair

Do software raids don't dance Samba?
Hey all,
well, first of all (even if it's quite late as it's in version 3.0.7 already): thanks a lot to all who
are developing and supporting Samba! I'm new to Linux and I really like the way things
are happening on this OS. But now, I've reached a point where I have to raise the white
flag...
It seems to me like - at least my - software raid can't dance Samba. I've got

A working solution to the XP domain reboot problem
Hey,
I worked for days on this, and I want to share the solution I stubled across.
I got this error message from my wife XP laptop:
"Windows cannot connect to the domain, either

your computer account was not found. Please try again later. If this
message continues to appear, contact your system administrator for
