Cross Subnet WINS?
But the win wks on the other subnet is configured to use my SAMBASERVER as its WINS SERVER, and it is configured using the IP Adress of the SAMBASERVER and not the name. Shouldn't this do the trick? win wks is on a wireless subnet and hence runs at 11 MBPS, while the SAMBASERVER is on a wired subnet. I read somewhere that windows does some kind of "optimization" with slow networks.

Still trying to backup 66 GB from LINUX to W2K ***
Hi Everyone. I'm still having that problem that my samba cannot backup more than 2 GB onto a Windows share (on a Win2K box) (see messages earlier in this forum - I have to backup a 66 GB file out of database). Setting loglevel of SAMBA to "2" I received the following (for the time running the backup up to the broken connection): ...... [2003/11/18 11:39:47, 3]

Error looking up domain users
Hello list, I'm runnung samba 2.2.4 on solaris 2.6 using winbind for account management. The samba server is a member server in a w2k domain. I've tested winbind in two different w2k domain (test and productive) with the same settings and analogue entries in the smb.conf. In the one w2k domain all run properly, in the other one I can join the domain (wbinfo -t tells secret is good), but

Problems with Samba 2.2.7 and Mac OSX?
I have a FreeBSD server running Samba 2.2.7.. I've turned log levels to 10... I have a user who needs this machine to do her job, and she uses Mac OS X. She routinely cannot connect to this box, and gets an error -36. The logs show *NOTHING* when she tries to connect. The machine is properly joined to the domain, and I can reach it from Winblows. Help? Thanks, G. SMB log: [2003/06/30

Winbind problem (NT_STATUS_DOMAIN_CONTROLLER_NOT_FOUND)
Due to the ever so lovely storms here on the US West Coast I had to shutdown my Samba v.2.2.4 server running Winbind this weekend, unfourtunatly once I powered back up the server I started getting this error from log.winbindd and could no longer access Samba from my Windows stations. (no subject)
I'm having a problem with files locking so that every time the are opened up they are opened as Read-Only. Windows doesn't see them as readonly but Samba thinks that they are write=no and so they can't be saved or deleted. I've included a log, my smb.conf, and a getfacl of a user's home directory as well as a getfacl of the directory from /home. Any help would be

Still Problems with Samba 2.2.7 and Mac OSX?
(Some more info) I have a FreeBSD server running Samba 2.2.8 now (updated from 2.2.7).. I've turned log levels to 10... RHEL6 implementation running slow
I am running Samba 3.6.15 on a RHEL6 server. The server has been joined to the campus AD. The complaint I am getting from users is that this is much slower than other, earlier versions of Samba. We have older versions running on both RHEL4 and RHEL5, but this version on RHEL6 seems to be running much slower. One thing to note is that I had first installed and had Samba 4 working. But,

memdisk - reboot loaded image
Is there a method to reboot a memdisk (floppy) image? I'm working on a DOS-based installation floppy that needs to repartition the hard disk prior to proceeding. DOS will only recognize the updated partition table after a reboot, but I'd like to be able to save information to the currently loaded memdisk floppy disk and simply reboot the image. Possible? I haven't had any luck with

Multiple daemon log files.
Hi there, Been around Linux a while, new to Samba, know nothing about Windows. Installed Samba on vanilla Debian Lenny, the package manager gave me Samba 3.2.5, and it didn't work. Searching revealed that there are problems with that release so I tried a source install. Never did like Debian-out-of-date-and-patched-to-hell stuff anyway. The source install default locations are everywhere

Samba as PDC with WinXP Clients -> headache!!
Hi. my last post was about upscale configuration for my WinXP clients, because I believed I had it working, but ... Next day I booted the client and .... it wouldnt let me log onto the domain again. :-( I am using Samba 2.2.8a with Ldap backend which works great in workgroup mode. Joining the domain is very easy and works well, but then after rebooting I get: "Es kann keine

Isolinux bug: CD bootsector support broken
HPA, I believe that support to boot windows CD bootsectors was broken in 3.05. I have tested 2.13, 3.00, 3.02, 3.05, 3.06, 3.08, 3.11, and 3.20pre6. All versions >= 3.05 are broken. All versions <= 3.02 work fine with the same config. The error message I get is: ================================================================ IOSLINUX 3.20 3.20-pre6 Copyright (C) 1994-2005 H. Whither SYSLINUX
SYSLINUX is certainly useful. I currently start Debian from their standard boot floppy, which uses SYSLINUX. I found it very easy to edit syslinux.cfg for ide-scsi setup. Surely the future lies with bootable CDs and floppy images specifically designed for them. Maybe there should be a combined SYSLINUX / ISOLINUX package which allows you to specify Floppy Emulation or not. But if you invent a

Domain member (2k8R2) server, problem mapping Kerberos/NSS users
Hi list, I'm trying to set up a simple fileserver (Samba 4.1.6 on Ubuntu 14.04) as domain member, which delegates user authentication to AD (2k8R2) via Kerberos/NSS ? SSSD without using Winbind.
