Can't join Samba3 domain
Hello,
I have some problems with my Samba3 on my Suse 8.2 Linux. I got the
Samba binaries from
ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/people/gd/8.2-i386/samba3-3
.0alpha24cvs/.
When i want to join my domain from a winxp client (registry patch
already applied), i got the error access denied.
Regards,
A. Roth

net groupmap modify ntgroup="Domain Admins" ... succeeds but fails
After reading through the documentation, I realized that as a part of the
migration process from Samba-2.2.X to Samba-3.0.0 I needed to convert
everyone in my smbadmin group (previously domain admin group = @smbadmin) to
the "Domain Admins" group w/rid=512. So, I issued the following command:
[root@localhost profile]# net groupmap modify ntgroup="Domain Admins"

directory vs. file delete permissions
I have an [apps] share that was intended to be read-only (to keep
viruses away) however some Windows programs require rw access to
specific files. I don't want to open-up everything on the share to rw,
only those specific files/directories that need 'w' access.
Here's the dilemma: In order for users to be able to change a file, the
file and directory it's in need to have rw

login (W2K) takes very long
hi,
i've configured samba-2.2.5 and openldap2-2.1.4 with the help of the
howto avaible at idealx. I can add users / delete them - login in pver
ssh - get the right groups and id's... - nearly everything works.
But when i try to login with a W2K Workstation (havn't tested other
OS'es) then i can type in the username/password - then it takes about 5
minutes (you can still see the

valid users fails with net groupmap rid=512
Hi,
The group that is mapped to rid=512 cannot be used in "valid users", the
users cannot map the share (error 5).
Is this normal? Should I file a bug?

command:
net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=smbadmin rid=512 type=d

Cannot copy back profile
Hi! I have a problem with roaming profiles which I don't understand.
I can login and logout from XP with a samba PDC with ldapsam
flawlessly, but for some reasons when the profile does not
belong to the user itself windows tells me upon logout that it cannot
copy back some files to the server. Weird, because the directory
where the profile resides is readable and writable by the user,

Are these BUGS? anyone experienced either of these?
I have experienced a couple of (minor) problems with Samba
Thought I would report these and ask if they are known problems.
1. Problem with "!" in username map file
2. Samba tools e.g. smbstatus, testparm not accounting for "config file"
parameter
1. There appears to be a problem with a minor part of username map file
interpretation.

performance problem with 3.2.8: unbuffered reads for some users
Hi!
I'm experiencing strange performance problems after upgrading to samba
3.2.8 from 3.0.30.
For all users except smbadmin (who has administrative rights), read
performance is _very_ bad. Looking at the read-requests using filemon
and wireshark, I found out that for those users, every read is handled
transparently (unbuffered) over the net. (I.e. a 2 byte read-request of

smbpasswd - Samba and LDAP
Hi,
I've implemented an LDAPv2 server with samba support but find that
smbpasswd does not work as expected. I am using berkeley db-4.1.25_p1,
openldap-2.1.26, and samba-3.0.2a. Anybody have any clue why I get the
following error when attempting to add samba support for a user
(specifically a DB_KEYEXIST error).
I get the following output (excerpt) from smbpasswd:

Also I can see in ndstrace that the search string is

I have "ldap fileter = (&(cn=%u)(objectClass=sambaAccount)) in my smb.conf.

Samba Upgrade...
Sorry if this is a dup. I sent right before I subscribed to the list,
so I'm not sure if it made it.
I have just taken over a redhat system with Samba 3.0.0 configured
with security = user, and domain logins enabled. I've included the
smb.conf at the end of this message.
I would like to upgrade to 3.0.10 for a numbers of reasons, one
being security and one being that password changes

ERROR: failed to setup guest info.
OK, I had this working a few days ago, but have evidently changed
something that I cannot locate. Someone hit me with their 2x4.
Samba 3.0.22, Fedora Core 4, ldapsam (OpenLDAP 2.3.24).
smbd will not start, with the "ERROR: failed to setup guest info" error (I
have "guest account = guest", which is a valid user with correct info in
LDAP):

Adding a machine; I think I am onto something
Parameters are:
Samba 2.2.7a PDC setup with LDAP includeing posix authentication for Linux.
OK, the tutorial I've based my setup on is the Mandrake tutorial found
at http://www.mandrakesecure.net/en/docs/ldap-auth.php
Works great for autenticateing Linux from LDAP but it is really sparse
on the Samba side of things. Esepcially when it comes to adding machine
trust accounts.
So anyway I

Brazillian Caller ID: almost there...
Hello,
Talking with Soren Sratje about Caller ID in Brazil, we compare ours
DTMF tones captured by ztmonitor. wcfxo correctly recognize the "DTMF
CLIP" and asterisk shot the AST_STATE_PRERING correctly.
But the DTMF tones are not reconized. In the chan_zap.c, the code:
if (f->frametype == AST_FRAME_DTMF) {

Does not occurs because the frametype is always reconized as voice
