The password is incorrect. Try Again
This is probably an easy one. I have just setup Samba on my Debian 2.0 system with kernel 2.0.34. It was extremely easy set up, great job Samba and Debian people. My problem is that I can see both of my Debian computers in Network Neighborhood but can not log in to both of them. The one I can log in to is Debian 1.3 with 2.0.33 on it. When I double-click on the Debian 2.0 machine it prompts me for

PDC error; can not open passdb database
I am looking to setup a domain server. I have tried and tried and this is the closest I have gotten so far. The main problem I have is in the user authentication. I am getting an error that the user or password is wrong. Currently it looks like Samba can not access the passwd file. What is this file? My log for the client give this error: [2003/06/05 15:35:35, 0]

Roaming Profiles with Samba PDC
I have been working on this problem for quite some time now and have not been able to find the solution. I have Samba running on Debian Linux 3.0 (Woody) as a primary domain controller. From my Windows 2000 desktop I am able to browse that Linux server with Windows Explorer. My biggest problem is trying to log in to that domain. Under Windows 2000 I am able to join the domain (sjmlinux) but

Problems with Word 200 and Samba 2.2.6
I'm hoping someone has some insight into a problem I'm currenty having, which is: No one is able to edit (in place) documents with Word 2000 on a samba (2.2.6) disk share. A user can open word and save a document to the share, but when they go to edit the document Word says "Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error". From Microsoft KB Q211632 it appears

Clients can find printer when "browsing" but not otherwise
I had a working Samba installation on my home network. Then I replaced one printer with another. The new printer is successfully installed on my RedHat 9.0 system on /dev/lp0. It is an Epson C82. From the RedHat system all is well. However, I am unable to print to this printer via Windows XP boxes on my network. Samba is working to the extent that Windows can find these printers via

Replacing WinNT 4 PDC with Samba PDC
Hi All! Thanks to all of you that responded to my previous posts. I've gotten a lot more info now than I used to have! But I still have questions. The biggest right now is: Is there a way build up a Samba PDC as a direct replacement for an existing Windows NT 4.0 PDC? All the material I've found to date is written from a standpoint of creating a new domain as you create the Samba

windows file compatibility aka A Cry For Help
Everything is going amazing in the windows->samba conversion until I ran into a roadblock..I really dont know what may be going on so I will outline it as best as I can. We have a program called realty toolkit which saves its configuration and security settings onto the network. Well, after putting the files onto the linux box, it no loger wants to work, the security check fails. calling the

netlogon sometimes works (corrected with smb.conf attached)
I tried hardcoding it into the network card's settings, ensured the settings were there (ipconfig/all) and it did work on the first occasion. Subsequent logins, fail to make it run the netlogon script I've tried turning debug up but the output doesn't make much sense, had it mentioned "attempting netlogon share, failed due to..." then I'd at least be in a position to

/var/spool/samba retention period
It seems like the files sent to the samba spool and then over to CUPS seem to stay in the /var/spool/samba directory indefinately. Is there a fix to this via a configuration, or just setting up a cron job to purge? Thanks

samba & rsync
If anyone has time to look at this problem I would appreciate it. I think I am looking for a way to increase the "timeout" in samba (in the smb.conf file) for reporting a "down" link or "can't read xyz file". However I am writing to you folks because this problem has come up while using rsync my problem ========== We have a wan in which links from a

Logon to SAMBA
Hi, I have installed the samba-1.9.17p3 on our Solaris 2.5.1 (named 'dor-ent1') and Linux (named 'iserver'). They work when I test out 'smbclient -L dor-ent1' from Linux machine and vice-versa. I also can map the directories on 'dor-ent1' or 'iserver' to my win95 machine using: 'net use * \\dor-ent1\tmp'.

SaMBa raises 10x the traffic but only when _executing_, pizza offered
Customer is running a Delphi app talking to an MS-SQL-Server through Microsoft ADO. The SQL stuff is reasonably chatty but not a problem. Whenever the program is run or a significant feature is used, it generates much SMB traffic -- roughly 10x as much from a SaMBa (3.1 or 3.0) server as from a W2k or w2k3 server. As you might imagine, this makes the app run very slowly. This happens with

samba pdc winbind
( could not post complete reply, message too large?) I think that's why I have a lot of black screens on the clients. Here debian pdc smb.conf: root at fai:~# cat /etc/samba/smb.conf # This is the main Samba configuration file. You should read the # smb.conf(5) manual page in order to understand the options listed # here. Samba has a huge number of configurable options (perhaps too # many!)

Need help troubleshooting TCP thrashing, possible kernel bug?
I think it should be neither. Ugh... FreeNAS UI doesn't let me disable the Domain Logons setting for some reason, so I'll have to talk to them on that one and it seems they have no option for me to modify the server role. Thankfully I can edit smb.conf directly on the archlinux box where I was able to duplicate the issue. Setting sever role = auto, domain logons = yes doesn't fix the
