XP Joining Samba Domain - Cry For Help
It is way too late to be wrestling with this, but being the obsessive
compulsive I am.....
I can not get an XP machine to join a samba-ldap domain
The machine account has been made
The XP registry and local policies have been set
I continue to get 'specified domain does not exist'
I have gone in circles nad can't figure a thing out!

NetBIOS over ipsec using samba
I am sure someone has had success getting NetBIOS names to transfer from one
side of a VPN to the other, but I'm not that person (yet). I have read all
available documentation and newsgroups and have exhausted my patience. I
have a linux box running 2.4.21 kernel with Freeswan on each end of a VPN
(its working). I have "Arno's iptables" firewall installed on each end (It

wins support = yes time server = yes
When I set:
wins support = yes
time server = yes
my wins service stops working and no computers show up in the network
neighborhood..as soon as I change time server = no, they start to
re-populate.
I have looked around and havent found a definitive answer (apologies if I
overlooked it)...
but if someone could tell me if this is a documented issue, or just me that
woudl be great
Thanks

samba & rsync
If anyone has time to look at this problem I would appreciate it.
I think I am looking for a way to increase the "timeout" in samba (in the
smb.conf file)
for reporting a "down" link or "can't read xyz file".
However I am writing to you folks because this problem has come up while
using rsync

smbpasswd question
Do you have to enable encrypted passwords for smbpasswd to work? I
have yet to enable encryption because I wanted to test everything
first, but have enabled 'update encrypted = Yes' so that this will
update the smbpasswd file. I also have 'unix password sync = Yes'.
However, I cannot get smbpasswd to change the passwords, either by
user or root. Any suggestions?

Sorry for all the newbie questions...
I could have sworn I saw something about a utility that exports the SAM

can't find it elsewise...anyway...could someone point me in the right
direction?
I want to export my users from NT to linux with passwords....if that is
impossible, I also have all

We have exactly the same problem with Samba v2.2.8a. We found out that the
password change process works if you set "unix password sync =

Compatibility with Far Cry broken with update
Hello !
I play Far Cry and it doesn't run properly on any version later than 1.1.40 !
Instead, on 1.1.40 and back the game runs nearly perfectly !
I heard of "patching" a version of Wine... Is someone enough skilled to do that ?
Also, I don't know how to report a bug so can someone help me to do it?
Have a nice day,

smbpasswd via cgi
using samba and ldap - redhat 7.3
trying to work on a short cgi to update samba password (it is a url with
attributes username and password). I am not very good at all with perl, so
if someone can take a quick ponder and help me out, that would be great.
I think that it fails in theory however, because to change other users
password, you need to be root ... So I was wondering if anyone knows

Far Cry 2: Not working, but could be working quite easily?
Hi!
I received Far Cry 2 to try it and i tested it under wine 1.1.7
The install works, but securom not (a bug has already been filled in), and
the game starts with a crack!
I had to add some dll's and disable dxgi, but that's not a huge problem.
When launching single player, it works and i am ~ 8 seconds ingame, but then
it shutds down...
In my output i can see this 100 times:

has anyone compiled win32-utils under mingw?
Since the 1.8.4 One-click installer is based on VC++ 6.0 which is no
longer available, I am looking for alternative ways of building
win32-utils so as avoid segfaults. Has anyone used MingGW
successfully? When I run ruby extconf.rb from MSYS the resulting make
file assumes that I am using VC++. Do I need to build ruby under MinGW
first?

Clients can find printer when "browsing" but not otherwise
I had a working Samba installation on my home network. Then I replaced one
printer with another. The new printer is successfully installed on my RedHat
9.0 system on /dev/lp0. It is an Epson C82. From the RedHat system all is
well.
However, I am unable to print to this printer via Windows XP boxes on my
network. Samba is working to the extent that Windows can find these printers

Backup - suggestions needed....
Linux RH 7.3, Samba 2.2.7a
NT 4.0 SP6 - Backup Exec 8.5
The linux box is running the Backup Exec client for Unix

Occasionally, when doing a backup the entire linux system freezes. I have
to do a hard reboot without a shutdown, etc.
There is 40 plus gigs on the backup, so I dont think a tar and copy would be
bery efficient.

Share trash can?
Is there a trash can, or a way to add one, so that if a user deletes a

transfering users from PDC to print/file server
I have a Samba PDC server running on Fedora Core. I also have 3 samba print servers and 1 samba file server setup on RedHat 9 machines.
How do I make my RedHat file and print servers to get user information from the PDC so I don't have to set up users on every single server?
I appreciate your help!
