Active Directory Integration Problems
Hello everyone, I have setup Samba 3.0.28a on an Ubuntu 8.04 server. The setup that I am working with is an exact copy (as far as I can tell) if an identical installation that I did on a test box. Kerberos is setup and working properly. I can use kinit to issue tickets. The box has been successfully joined to the Active Directory domain. I can enumerate AD users and groups. I can log

How to join a win2k-domain using Samba 2.*
The documentation that I found regarding this issue wasn't that good - it didn't help me that much. Later on I managed to join the win2k-domain after a lot of work. Thus I'm writing this letter in order to help people who were in my situation. This was my problem and the solution I devised for it: I was using samba-2.2.3a (debian package) and the windows-domain I tried to join is

SAMBA write error on SUSE 10.0
Hi all, I use SAMBA 3.0.13-1.1-SUSE on a SuSE 9.3 Pro boxed version. Has anything changed w.r.t SuSE 9.3's SUSE 10.0 Samba versions? I use the same setup in swat. Ver. 3.0.20b-3.1 (or 3.0.20-4) does not behave the way it should. PROBLEM 1: Last week I installed SUSE 10.0 boxed version with its SAMBA version 3.0.20-4 (Updated by YOU to 3.0.20b-3.1-SUSE), on a x86_64 System. All works, but

Samba 3.0.28 failing to authenticate on Win2003 Server Active Directory
I have set up a Fedora 8 server running Samba 3.0.28a-0.fc8 (the Fedora yum package version). I have successfully joined the server to the AD realm of a Win2003 server on the office network. Configuration was done following this guide: http://www.howtoforge.com/samba-domaincontroller-swat-fedora8-p3 However Authentication against the AD server does not work. When I test winbind with: #

SWAT error - returns an empty page
Hello, I have recently installed RedHat9 on my local server. It is meant to be a HTTP production server for my company. In RH9, SWAT doesn't come as standard. I therefore tried to install the RPM package found on the red hat nerwork : - samba-swat-2.2.7a-7.9.0.rpm and samba-swat-2.2.7a-8.9.0.rpm I would like to report that both failed at installation. A dialog box opened saying : reading

Erratic behavior when Windows XP clients attempt to login to PDC
I have noticed while testing my Samba 3.0.2a primary and backup domain controllers with Windows XP clients, that when I attempt to login to the Samba PDC, the XP client will sometimes randomly choose the backup domain controller. I only want the client to join the backup domain controller when the PDC is offline. I am not experiencing any random network outages or DNS failures so I am bewildered

Samba errors
Dear list; I have been using samba 1.9.18p10 on a Sun Sparc Ultra 2 for about a year. I use it to share a directory to an NT/95 network. I now have a Sun Sparc Ultra 10 running Solaris 2.6. In order to prepare the Ultra 10 for y2k I downloaded samba-2.0.6-nonis+-sparc-sun-solaris2.6.pkg.gz from

SWAT login agony
I've installed the latest/greatest from Samba (3.0.alpha...). I've been following the directions from this site (http://samba.linuxbe.org/en/samba/learn/swat.html) on how to set up SWAT for configuring Samba. The problem I'm running into is logging into SWAT. I've tried every user imaginable and still no luck. I've enabled the SWAT service using xinetd, and it actually

Upgraded to 3.0.2a but...
Hi folks :-) I've just downloaded Samba 3.0.2a, run ./configure , make and make install. All seemed to go OK but my system still appears to be running the previous 2.2.8a version. New installation seems to have placed smbd, nmbd and swat into /usr/local/samba/sbin (older ver was in /usr/sbin) so I changed the entries in /etc/rc.d/rc.samba to show correct path and now smbd/nmbd are not

Upgrading samba 2.2.8a to 3.6.15 on Solaris 9 --> 3.6.15 brings all inetd services down
Hi samba friends, I'm upgrading our Samba 2.2.8a server to 3.6.15 on a Solaris 9 box, we need to do this as all our latest Mac OS X 10.8 clients cannot map to the 2.2.8a network share, and need the newer Samba (well known issue for mountain lion). I've compiled 3.6.15 and this seemed to go ok, no obvious errors were shown during .configure make and make install, and smbd -V gives

samba PDC profile issues with winxp and win9x
OK, I've tried to "read the fine material" and have read more than one reference and more than a few months worth of threads in the archives, but I am still stumped with this issue. When using logging on with Win9x, there is a profile error #4, and it complains that it was not able to open or create a file in the \\regmain\[username]\.profile\Cookies folder on login and sign out.

3.0.3 upgrade comments
Hello Samba gurus. I've just finished an upgrade from 2.2.8a to 3.0.3 on my old pc file server. Many years ago it used to be a RH 6.2 machine but most packages (including Samba) have now been built from source. I have a couple of observations that might be worth including in the documentation/man pages to help other users: The swat man page instructions for editing /etc/inetd.conf refer
