stale timestamp hell
I've been using a Windoze based programming editor (Slickedit) across
samba shares for years without any problems (most recently with FC5). I've
just started using Ubuntu and I'm now having a problem with timestamps
lagging file writes. The net result is my editor almost always
thinks another program has modified the file.
Today I built and installed samba 3.3.3. from sources and it

Unreproduceable bug in Samba 2.0.6
Hello Samba Developers,
Recently I've caused an endless loop in Samba, which caused the log file
to fill up all usable disk space.
This is what I've done ( or better, what I think I've done, because the
bug is not reproduceable ) :
- Mounted my home directory via Windows Explorer under Windoze NT.
- Logged into account under same name on same machine ( bash )
- created a soft link

preexec close + Win2K
I have Samba 2.2.2 on Solaris 8 acting as a PDC. I
have written a script that checks to see if a user is
already logged in on the PDC and if so, sends the user
a message (via the SMB message stuff) telling them
they need to log off. I run this script using
"preexec close" under the netlogon share. So, the
user authenticates against the PDC, but then gets a
desktop that is mostly

unable to browse/ map drive
I plead complete ignorance.
I have 2 Win98 boxes and a Win2K box trying to access a Samba 2.08 server
running on OpenBSD 2.8. All IP addresses are hard coded with the IP of the
Samba box as the Wins server (see the smb.conf) The Win2K box can resolve
the name of the Samba machine but cannot map to it. The other boxes can't
resolve the name. All are set to the same workgroup.

Problem on mount.smbfs
Dear Samba Support,
Currently I'm using redhat 6.2 with kernel version 2.2.14-5.0
and samba server version : samba-2.0.6-9
I have configured our samba server as member of NT domain.
Everything works well, ie: I can join to PDC server and also mount our file
server into our samba server
But everyday in our samba server on file /var/log/messages, I got messages:

Win2K box and the file server are on the same switch. They are both
configured as 100FD, AutoNeg=Off. I have not met anyone so far with that
much performance difference, though some reported 1:2 speed ratio. Attached
is our config file for your information.
I've searched through this mail lists' archives. I couldn't find a solution,
though I've seen people reporting similar

Timestamps on DOS cmd.exe file copies
Apologies in advance if this is in a FAQ somewhere, but I've looked &
lurked for a while and not found anything...
I'm using Samba 2.0.3 on a RedHat 5.2 box to serve a mixed MS network
(Win9x, Windows NT) (but testing with my NT4-SP4 notebook).
I have a share where "dos filetimes = True" (also tried with this false)
and "dos filetime resolution = False". Let me

strange behavior with "dos filetime resolution = yes"
Hello,
i see a strange behavior with timestamps of files on a samba share
(4.2.6 on SLES 12 SP1 and 4.1.8 on Ubuntu 14.04) with "dos filetime
resolution = yes": On older samba versions, windows properties dialogue
correctly shows only even seconds, but (at least) the two indicated
versions show sometimes even and sometimes odd seconds if the file has

Win2k Client <-> Samba Server
I'm having some difficulties joining a Win2k workstation to a Samba domain.
This particular workstation is my work laptop (DRUMMSW01) which normally
operates as a member of a standard Win2k domain called BIZ. At windows
startup/logon, BIZ is specified as the domain.
At home, my Samba PDC's workgroup/domain is HOME.LAN
When I try to browse shares on HOME.LAN with the Win2k laptop, I

Migrating Samba PDC
Hi All,
I'm trying to migrate our Samba PDC server to a new machine on the
local net with a completely new domain, but when I try to join this
domain on a Win2k machine it gives error 'invalid domain or can't be
located' I have no problem on my mac using DAVE. and i can see the
new domain in the browse list. Here is my configuration.
Any help would be great.

FW: Tip: using icecast in chroot mode may break timestamp inaccess.log
Please post to the mailing list the next time Ralf.
I'm not using yp directory listings, but I can guess why it is not working.
You're probably missing the libcurl.so library in your chroot jail
directories. Here's the listing of files I have in the chroot jail:

Samba 2.2.4 + Win2K Printing Problem

Want timestamp to change when copying from WinXP to Samba share
Hi folks,
Windows has a default behavior of preserving timestamps when you copy a
file. I want to update the 'Date Modified' timestamp to current time
when I copy a file from Windows XP to a Samba share, just like a unix
file copy would. Is there some way of doing this? Maybe w/ a script?
'dos filetimes' and 'dos filemode' don't seem to do the trick.

Problems with Samba 2.0.6 and file modification times
Hello,
I'm using Samba 2.0.6 on a newly installed SMP machine
with SuSE Linux 6.2. Apparantly this Samba version does
not allow any network clients to change the file modification
times on remote files, as this is done by several directory
synchronization tools (I personally use "filesync" to synchronize
between my notebook and the server).
On another Linux machine (Samba 2.0.5a on

Multi-user databases (DOS application) in WIndows XP and Windows 2k file locking problem
Hello all!
I discover a strange thing.
We use and develop DOS financial accounting application, written on Xbase
(formerly known as Clipper). This application agressively uses of file
sharing and locking (byte-range and all possible for DOS combinations),
creates and uses huge amount of index (NTX) and Dbase III (DBF) files on
network shared resource. Network clients are Windows 98se,

samba 2.4 and win2k clients doesn't work
Hello,
i'm new to the the list so excuse me if I ask for an old problem, but i found no solution in the archive.
I try to set up a rh 7.3 server with samba 2.4 as PDC for win2000 sp2 clients.
I configured the samba to create the machine accounts on the fly. When I try to join the domain the entries in smbpass and passwd are created fine. After a minute I get the message that I joined the

Still No Joy In Printsville
First, I want to thank Mark Clement and Steve Litt for their comments. But
as the subject indicates, i'm still not having any luck printing. Mark, I
can't even get output to a test file.
Below is a printout of testparm. One thing that *is* odd, is the reference
to a "printers.def" file in /etc. There wasn't any such file there. The
contents are a duplicate of the

Changing timestamp when copying files to Samba share
Hi,
Is there some way of doing this? When I copy a file from Windows XP onto
a Samba share, I want it to reflect the current time, instead of
preserving the windows "Date Modified" time. This works by default in
Unix. Windows preserves the timestamp by default.
'dos filetimes' and 'dos filemode' in smb.conf don't seem to do the
trick. Any ideas?
Thanks in advance
