File shares seem to timeout?
Hi,
I have a samba server joined to a Win 2000 domain.
It all works fine except that for some reason if a Win2KPro client has a
file/folder open overnight (or for a long time), then they are disconnected.
I can't find a relevant timeout setting when browsing through swat.
Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks,
Alistair.

nmbd woes (still)
Ok I've fed this problem with about five hours of my time to post to a list
about it. nmbd does not appear to be
doing what it should. Why I'm not certain. The unix host (running samba)
is not appearing in on the windows
browse list (i.e. it's not showing up in the network neighbourhood).
when I run nmbd with -d2 I get the following:
Netbios nameserver version 2.2.8 started.

XP & 2000 Printer problem
I'm having a problem with my XP & 2000 pc's, with printers.
During the initial installation and configuration of these machines,
everything is fine. But any printer added to the network AFTER the
initial config of the winXP & win2000 pc's, isn't available to these
machines.
So... if I add any printers to my network, I can't use them with my
winXP or win2000

dovecot LDA w/virtual domains and postfix
Hi,
I've been trying to follow the documentation that I am finding, but am running
into trouble getting things set up correctly for postfix + virtual domains
(using ldap) with dovecot LDA. I can get it to work without LDA, but I'm
running into permissions problems when I try to run with LDA. I am wondering
if anyone has any good examples of configuring this.
I basically have a

Hi,
I created a PDFPrinter as per
http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=samba&m=105301236523413&w=2
I have another question, do I need to add a Color Laser Printer Driver in
W2K to the PDF share to generate color PDF in Windows?

Kyocera 680 KX and driver uploads failing - anybody have success?
Hi All,
Just a quick one. Some turkey has bought a kyocera 680 and we have to set
it up for samba print sharing. We have about 35 other HP, Lexmark, and
other things working a treat on this server so I know it's all working.
When I try to upload the driver for the kyocera it uploads fine from my
windoze box and everything looks sweet, I apply and I get the extra tabs as
expected for

i've done a test page or two and the username comes though to the colour
printer which is good. problem i had is the jobname in the logs is
smbprn_xxxxxxxx_xx (numbers) which is the samba job name. if joe bloggs

Modified Cups Backed pdf writer to keep the original document name.
Hi All,
I've got a samba/cups pdf writer going thanks to PeteFwee and Wolfram Q and
a few others... the cups pdf backed i used has a default of
username-date.pdf which I didn't like and wanted the name of the job that
got send in the printer q on the winslows client.
The only way I could see in my very limited experience was to grab the
%%Title out of the postscript file and make sure

IP ban list by country
Hi everyone,
I know it's off topic from Asterisk directly but yet related.
What sources do you use to limit SIP connecting customers to specific
countries by IP (e.g. allowing USA and not China). It would help me a lot of
you can note the sources you trust that are complete and up to date.
Thanks

C5 BASH IF
Being new to some aspects of BASH, I tried to reduce the quantity of
scripts by introducing a comparison test into an existing working
script.
The script refused to work until I placed [ ] around the actual test.
The second test, in the same script, misfunctioned until I removed the
[ ] around the second test.

Samba.. not worth a f*** for printing
Gotta love these people that appreciate all the effort the developers
put in when clearly they are click and grunt experts who can't be
bothered reading a manual.
We got samba going and migrated a test bunch towards it printing on
about 60 printers. HP drivers work a treat when it came to setting our
A4 size paper but some printer drivers like Panasonic and Epson have
crappy setup.exe

A probably silly thought but...
Not a silly thought.
I've instead of spending x hunderd thousand on brandname ibm servers and
sans, how you could create a RAID array of PCs running IDE hard drives.
If a PC dies just plug in some more and rebuild. If you want to add
more space just add more PCs. :) that would be cool.
Obviously you wouldn't use it still for critical data like databases
etc, but our user

nmbd dead but pid file exists
I'm having a lot of problems with nmbd quitting while I'm working. 'service
smb status' shows samba running, but 'nmbd dead but pid file exists'. Log
files show lines like
nmbd/nmbd.c:reload_interfaces(229)
reload_interfaces: No subnets to listen to. Shutting down...
Googling hasn't come up with anything helpful. Has anyone any idea what is

annoying nmbd behavior - no log file?
Not sure why this is, but smbd is logging but nmbd is not. If I
start using ./nmbd -d10 there is still NO debugging output. Any
ideas why?

nmbd[7317] entries in /var/log/message
Hi,
I am new to the list and I have a question already.
I am noticing the following entry in my /var/log/message file:
Mar 5 04:03:31 dbserver1 nmbd[7317]: name_to_nstring:
workgroup name MSHOME,DATABASESRV is too long. Truncating to
MSHOME,DATABASE
It is in there a lot. Is this something I should try to fix?
Thanks

nmbd: Ignoring request packet with opcode 5
Hello,
I have lots of the following entries in my log:
nmbd[1605]: [2010/05/28 09:59:51, 0] nmbd/nmbd_packets.c:validate_nmb_packet(1375)
nmbd[1605]: validate_nmb_packet: Bad REG/REFRESH Packet. validate_nmb_packet: Ignoring request packet with opcode 5.
What does this mean exactly? Can I ignore this? I use samba (sernet-samba) 3.3.12-25 on Debian Lenny.
Thanks and Regards.

Samba4 as DC and Net browsing (nmbd code) !
Hi.
When is planned to implement Net browsing functionality (I think
implementation of nmbd code) to Samba4 main binary ?
Because neighborhood browsing that is ability of see of list of workgroup /
domain computers is very necessary.
