Promise FastTrak series
Hello, In some weeks I'm going to reinstall some old RedHat9 based servers with Promise FastTrak TX2000 "semi-hardware" RAID1 controllers. I just tried to install CentOS 4.0 on a computer with a spare card and as usual both HDD attached to the RAID1 controller are seen separately by the installer because the specific driver for the TX2000 wasn't loaded. Nothing new here, it

Hardware RAID Controller
Hi Everyone, Has anyone had any experience of using the Promise FastTrak SX4000 or SuperTrak SX6000 IDE RAID Controllers under Centos (if it matters I'm using version 4). I've seen it listed on linuxcompatible.org as working but would prefer to find out any first-hand experince before I buy. I'm looking to build a new mini server based on Mini-ITX and have found a great 1U case

Promise TX2 and ATARAID....... kjouirnald and kupdated seem to fight it out for reasourses
What is really puzzling me is that the ataraid device (/dev/ataraid/d0p1 mounted as /bigdisk) 2x 123GB IBM Deskstar's is formated as ext2...top and ps etc... show a fight between kjournald and kupdated and all searches for kjournald or kupdated fights suggest ext3 issues... :-) It's a RedHat 7.2, 2.4.7-10 custom kernal (I added in the Promise FastTrak support and HIGH mem support to

Promise raid cards
Hello. I would like to know if promise RAID cards are compatible with CentOS / RHEL ? I have seen that only SATA is supported on the RHEL hardware compatibility list. The other ATA raid cards seems not to be compatible. They give source code and promise grants compatibility with RedHat 8 and 9 but not RHEL. I would like to know if somebody tried a ATA raid card like Fasttrack TX2000, SX4000,

Backup strategy using 2 HDD + 2 drawers
Hi, One of my CentOS 4 server is a repository for backups for other machines. In this server, there is a 3ware RAID card and 2 HDD for the OS + data of this server. I also have 2 drawers (each containing one 200GB hdd), connected to a promise TX2000 card. One disk will remain in the server and one will be taken outside. What would be the best strategy for syncing the hdd when I swap

Software RAID: on same IDE port or on different ones?
I have a general question on software RAID performance. If using two IDE disks on RAID 1: is there much of a difference performancewise if I put both on one IDE port as master and slave or should I better put them on seperate ports. I remember from olde days that it was recommended to put CD and hard disk on different ports to maximize the throughput between them and as RAID1 is theoretically

Problem with Arima HDAMA rev.G with Integrated SiliconImage Sil3114 Serial ATA 4 Ports and 1TB SATA disks. Recomendation for a cheap SATA controller for linux software raid?
Dear Everybody, I am telling you the whole story, perhaps you can give me a better idea. Almost 3 years ago I purchased Arima HDAMA rev. G motherboard with integrated Silicon Image Sil3114 Serial ATA 4 Ports SATA I adapter. ( http://www.arimacorp.com/ViewProduct.asp?View=86 ) . BIOS version is 2.13. My intention is to make a file server, using linux software raid, so I bought 2 new shiny 1TB

Anyone know of complete hardware solution based IDE Raid Controllers?
Years ago Accusys made an IDE raid controller that presented itself as one drive to the BIOS, making the unit completely OS agnostic. Anything like that out there, anymore? Cheers, Brett.

Anyone using National ISDN (NI-1) BRI under Linux?
I have a North American BRI configured as National ISDN (NI-1) on an SBC (Nortel?) switch. SBC calls this "FastTrak ISDN", and it's surprisingly inexpensive -- less than two POTS lines. I've been trying to find an inexpensive PCI interface solution to connect this to Asterisk as voice lines. I prefer ISDN BRI over POTS lines because of the improved signalling, fast dialing,

Hardware or Software RAID w/CentOS 4.4 & Gigabyte GA-81945GZME-RH motherboard
Hi all, Helping a friend setup a new machine - it will be a low volume web and mail server. He wants to set it up with 2 drives in a mirror setup. The motherboard he bought supports mirroring on the hardware level. I have heard of issues before using hardware raid on Linux systems. Which way would you recommend we go on this? Thanks for any suggestions. Dale

Software versus hardware RAID performance.
With the Dell OpenManage question on my mind (and having seen it answered very well), I was reminded of an interesting and a little surprising thing I saw yesterday. I upgraded a PowerEdge 2850 from CentOS4 to Fedora Core 5 (keeping everything updated for GNUradio to run on CentOS 4 became more of a job that it should have) for our pulsar data processing machine (it has a GNUradio Universal

Software raid tutorial and hardware raid questions.
I remember seeing one with an example migrating from an old fashioned filesystem on a partition to a new filesystem on a mirrored lvm logical volume but one only one side of the mirror is set up at this time. First I need to copy stuff from what will become the second side of the mirror to filesystem on the first side or the mirror Then I will be ready to follow the rest of the tutorial and

Setting up software IDE RAID
I have some old rack boxes which are going to get some bigger harddrives (IDE/ATA, not SATA) in Spring and I'm wondering if I should put two disks in them and use them as RAID 1 (software RAID). Objective being that the machine can hopefully carry on after (one) disk failure (including rebooting). I don't have any experience with software RAID. Can I do this during the normal CentOS

Promise FastTrak TX2000
Does anyone have this card working in hardware RAID mode? I can see the individual ATA drivers when booting. The promise site has drivers for Redhat 7.3,8 and 9, but nothing for higher. I see the source code, and can build the module, but I need it loaded at boot time. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. Sean

SATA controller compatibility
Greetings - I'm looking to put some cheap storage into my server, which is running centos 3. I'm looking at the Maxtor SATA/150 PCI Card and a big maxtor sata drive. I would like to make sure that CentOS has driver for this controller. I looked in Red Hat's hardware database and did some google'ing but I couldn't find any info to confirm that this card is compatible.

Software Raid 6
How slow and how reliable is software raid 6 on CentOS 5. The system I'm going to use is A socket 939 dual core Athlon, 4 gigs of ram and a 3ware 7506-8 controller. Its mostly going to be used for storage (Movies, MP3s etc.). Thanks. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
