FW: Unofficial Samba+ACL howto
Sorry - I should have addressed this to Paul Eggleston who started this thread. Regardless who started it (the Samba + ACL howto), my offer still stands if I can be of any help. I'd be happy to help with this documentation, input, proof reading, whatever. There's definately a big lack here and the Samba team already has their hands full. ACLs and file copies/permissions
Hello all, I want to make a Samba server act as much like an 2000 machine as possible. I've successfully got winbindd running, and also have compiled ACLs into the kernel and the XFS filesystem. What settings to I want to use in the smb.conf file to make it as close to 2000 as possible? I want to minimize the necessity of admining the box from the Linux side. Currently I have issues with

posix acls vs unix groups and nt acls
I'm looking for info on using posix acls in samba. I'd like them to look and feel like nt acls. I'd like to use the windows client to set the acls on the samba server. I've got the official samba 3 howto book, but can't seem to figure things out from there. specifically, in the past I've used a force group entry in combined with create modes to keep shared files access to

Request for ACL experiences
I'm having trouble with ACL's and wonder how many others are too. I see conflicting answers and comments about different aspects of ACL's from many prople on the list. I was wondering if ANYONE is successfully using ACL's with Samba 3.0 or above. Questions I have that I'm sure many are asking are: Was your Samba server configured as the DC? What client OS were you

samba backup software
I'm curious to what people are using for backing up their samba servers. Here's are some specs to consider: - 1TB (yes, that's terabyte) of data - multiple servers backup to one tape drive connected to a server (preferably a linux system) - using an autoloader (in this case, an HP 1/9 LTO system) - need to be able to backup daily changes and/or changes since last full backup

git repo: primary/secondary/unofficial
I'm starting this thread to discuss what git repository should be designated as primary and which repositories should be designated as secondary. For years, git.kernel.org has been the primary repo, updated at least with every full and pre- release. git.zytor.com has been the secondary and development repo. Additionally, I've maintained my repos at github.com and git.zytor.com as

python dist-utils and python-config [SEC=UNOFFICIAL]
UNOFFICIAL Hi, I'm trying to build samba-latest on CentOS 7. The PC is not online, so I have to download everything manually. Most of the prerequisites are on the CentOS Everything ISO so I don't have to download a lot. I installed all the documented dependencies and configure complained about python3. So I downloaded and installed python36-libs-3.6.8-1.el7.x86_64.rpm

Unofficial Broadvoice-users query/offer and DID routing question
Let me start by stating that I've been thinking about setting up an unofficial broadvoice-users mailing list for a while. I've asked Broadvoice techs about it a couple times by phone and email and it looks like they haven't passed it up to the people who would make that decision or said people aren't interested in creating/maintaining one. If there's enough interest (read 10

Dell unofficial community repository - what do you think?
Hi all. I am currently gathering information about firmware update on Dell PowerEdge machines. I've found http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Firmware-tools_announcement and https://linux.dell.com/repo/community/ It is an unofficial, community supported repository. What are your experiences: should I perform firmware updates the traditional way by downloading *.bin packages from Dell and
