NT Domains and Workgroups
Is this situation a gotcha? Or it may be that I'm looking at the problem wrongly . . We have NT servers as PDCs in many regional centres and our head office. Each local area is a domain. Each local area is also a workgroup, of the same name. Now we have been having problems when someone goes from a regional office with their portable and plugs into head office. Suddenly the WINS server

Tinc support load-balance of one node to the other two?
Let’s say, tinc A node server LAN-1(single internet circuit), tinc B node and tinc C node are both serve LAN-2.(two internet circuits) Normally, we can only set tinc A to connect to either B or C, and then the other set as backup. But in some circumstances, we would like to combine the internet pipe of both two circuits, so that the tunnel traffic can have a better bandwidth. If that’s the

share files to two domains
Hello, I am running a samba 2.2.7 server that currently belongs to a NT4 domain (security = domain and password server = <pdc name>). There is a plan to roll out a Windows 2003 server with it's own active directory domain. Can my current samba server allow users from both domains to mount its shares? If so how? Thanks, -- Neil Watson Network Administrator www.voicegenie.com

Authentication across two samba domains to a client share
I am a sysadmin at a small private school and I am trying to run a program across two different domains. Here is the basic setup. I have a staff and a student domain controlled by Samba on two different servers. Some staff can authenticate on both servers (using the same user name and password) but no students can log into staff computers. All client computers are running Windows XP Pro.

Resolving DNS names to an IP in NT 4 domain
Hi I recently started working with somba on my Slackware box, and got it going with file sharing. However, I need a little more functionality out of it. I'll start with my situation, and what I need to do. I run a webserver on IIS 5.0 on a Win 2000 box. It is strictly a LAN webserver and only accessable from thos on the inside. People access from their browser via my Win 2000

How are Browse lists maintained for Multiple Domains?
Hi, I have read all I can find about browsing (BROWSING.txt, BROWSING-Config.txt, SWAT pages, etc. There are many discussions on the precise dynamics involved in Local Master Browsers synchronising with a Domain Master Browser (in a cross-subnet environment). I am trying to understand the mechanism that is used when there are Multiple Domains on the same network, and how the Browse List is

Need some guidance re: two domains sharing the same workstations
I fought with this a few months back, and was never able to resolve it, so I'm back at it trying to get things to work before classes start again in January. Here's a brief summary of the situation: I am responsible for 2 departments, Math and Socialwork, which are located in the same building and share the same network. Each department has its own samba server (RHEL4/CentOS4) and domain

keep sessions while switching domains
Hello, Our rails app has several domains. We are now implementing a single https connection https://secure.domain.xx. All other domains need to switch to that new secure domain in certain circumstances. We only have one ssl cert and it is not possible to create and use a ssl cert for all domains! Now when switching domains we loose the session, that was previously used and I was not able to

Domain master browser for multiple domains?
Hi, As I understand it, for cross-subnet browsing to work, we need a domain master for each workgroup/domain? This presents a problem since many of our workgroups/domains are just a collection of Windows 95 machines and so do not have a domain controller to be a domain master browser. Can we make Samba be a domain master browser for multiple domains/work- groups (the list of domains/workgroups

multiple workgroups
Hi all. I found the 'remote announce' option for smb.conf, but I'm not sure this is what I want to use. I think my circumstances are quite odd. I currently have 1.9.18 running on a sparc, serving my PC, on the same network, at work. My Linux box at home I use to dial into my machine. So the PPP interface has the same netwokr as the boxes at work. My Linux box also has 10mbs

Group sharing between NT and Linux domains
I need a little better information regarding the mapping of groups between an NT PDC and a SAMBA PDC, which trust each other. On the NT machine is a group called "ntgreen." On the Linux box (running RH9 with Samba 3.0), there is a group called "lxgreen". I've done a: net groupmap add ntgroup=ntgreen unixgroup=lxgreen. The mapping shows up in a net groupmap list.
