[EXT3-fs error with RH7.2 and RH7.3]
Hi ! My system is RH7.2 with Adaptec/DPT/I2O drivers (http://people.redhat.com/tcallawa/dpt/). There is a 2 disk RAID 1 array which had no disk fail. ext3 and df don't agree ?
I've taken my RH7.1 system, rebuild kernel (2.4.9 with ext3 patches) and followed the ext3 instructions to install. Everything seems to work OK but - df -k doesn't list the ext3 partition (my root partition). Is this a known problem ? If not, how best can I gather diagnostics to identify the source of the problem ? Thanks -- Philip Nelson (teamdba@bojnice.com)

ext3 corruption
Hi there, I'm running RH7.2 with ext3, and everything's been going great, except that my root filesystem won't mount due to some kind of corruption. When I try to mount, I get EXT3-fs: unsupported inode size: 61267 Yikes. Any suggestions? trying 'fsck -n -t ext3' suggests using an alternate superblock, but this doesn't change anything. Even a mechanism to

RESOLVED - RE: Ext3 problems possibly plauging me
Thank you to all who replied. I am very happy (for you guys anyway) to report that this was NOT infact caused by ext3, but rather a very very untimely memory failure that occured during my convertion from ext2 to ext3. It turned out that one of my PC2100 DDRs went south, and I'll be contacting Crucial to deal with that. Thanx again for all the help. benr. -----Original Message-----

ext3 and 2.4.x kernels
Dear list readers - it was brought to my attention that during the upgrade of a server to rh7.2, and selecting the ext3 migration works well with 1 exception that i need verified if i could please. i heard that once you migrate to ext3, you may no longer do a kernel upgrade without downgrading to ext2 and then putting the kernel or AC kernel in place 'patched'. Kernel 2.4.19 ext3 problem
My system is RH7.2 with custom 2.4.18 or 2.4.19 kernel(s), downloaded from kernel.org. My root filesystem is ext3 on ataraid. I'm using initrd. My system comes up fine with 2.4.18 kernel, but when trying to boot a new 2.4.19 kernel I get the following sequence:

ext3 and Software RAID-5: issue ?
Hello ! I have been playing around with a new machine, RH7.2, ext3 and software RAID-5. Once in a while, the machine hangs, no message, and the only thing which works is the physical reset button. I have checked whatever I could from FAQs, HOWTOs and did not find the problem. How shall I go about it ? the only thing I have noticed is that 3 out of the 7 disks are on UDMA33, the other ones

Ext3 problems possibly plauging me
Hello. My box has been running flawlessly for months now, but in the last 2 days hasn't stayed up for more than 5 minutes. All this seemed to have started after I did a very very bad thing...... I ran the EXT2 to EXT3 conversion on my root filesystem. I used the "tune2fs -j /dev/sda1" to do the deed. After it completed the machine ran fine (the machine was up and serving when I

My fault (not ext3's!) and kernel panic on 2.4.7 .
Hello all. I was playing with tune2fs to see how large the .journal file should be on a 17G partition with 512M ram (it's 32M, by the way). I am using plain 2.4.7 with ext3-2.4-0.9.4-247, compiled with gcc-2.96-85 on a RH7.1 distribution with the relevant changes, i.e. e2fsprogs-1.22-1, mount-2.11g-4 and util-linux-2.11f-3 taken from rawhide. I don't have any ext3 statement in /etc/fstab,

Re: Linux EXT3 support? problems flushing?
Paul, I don't know if this helps but I'm running RH7.2 on ext3 with Samba 2.2.1a & Quotas, I haven't heard any users complain yet, (300 total users). I don't believe any of them are using Outlook though, but they are using the Samba for their Groupwise MailArchive. Hope this helps... -Dusty > -----Original Message----- > From: Gerald Carter

pivot_root problem on RH7.2
Hello, I'm new in ext3. I installed RH7.2 with ext3. For a short time it worked properly, but when I compiled the linux kernel (2.4.9-13) from RH package, the old kernel didn't boot again (I didn't change anything with the old binary). I downloaded kernel 2.4.14 and ext3 patch for this version. After the compilation and installation I rebooted the system. I got answer something

external journal device
I'm trying to setup an external journal device, but it won't mount as ext3. I can only mount it as ext2. Everything seems happy when I run the commands. It will work when I don't use the external device. This is on RH7.2, linux-2.4.18-rc2. [root@dhcp4 root]# mke2fs -O journal_dev /dev/hdb5 [root@dhcp4 root]# mke2fs -j -J device=/dev/hdb5 /dev/hdb6 [root@dhcp4 root]# mount -t ext3

Linux 2.4.18 on RH 7.2 - odd failures
Hi there, I'm using RH7.2 (with the 2.4.9-30 kernal and it's required components) as a base for a server system running kernel 2.4.18. I've gone to this version to get around non-performing aic7xxx drivers in the stock 7.2 kernels, and updated gigabit ethernet drivers. I have a raid unit (Medea) attached to an Adaptec 3916, coming up as sdb. It has 2kb blocks, but the fault

mount: error 22 mounting ext3
Hi, I am running RH 9.0 with Grub. I just added an additional "old" drive from another system which has Win98 (fat32) and RH 7.2 (ext2) installed. However, now when I boot up, I am getting the following errors: ext3: No journal on filesystem ide3(34,7) mount: error 22 mounting ext3 pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot,/sysroot/initrd) failed: 2 umount /initrd/proc failed: 2 Freeing unused

fsck forced on every system crash
Hi all, I seem to be having a problem whereby my ext3 filesystem forces a full fsck on every hard system crash. This takes over 20 minutes on my 40GB drive and is driving me nuts. I've verified that the partition is, in fact, being mounted as ext3 and have tried removing ^has_journal and re-creating the journal file but nothing has worked. I'm running RH7.2... Any ideas would be much

mount problems with recent mount and samba
I have a problem mounting Samba shares with recent mount packages from RedHat and Samba packages from samba site. I have tried samba-2.2.4 RPM and samba-2.2.5 (built for RH7.2). In all cases mount fails if I use RH mount package version > 2.11b (current is 2.11n). If I also use Samba packages (2.2.4) from RedHat Rawhide - everyhting works Here is detailed description I have submitted to RH
