disabling swat during compile
Howdy folks, I am compiling 2.2.8 from source on a Caldera Openlinux 2.3 box to replace the 2.0.x version that is there. I do NOT want to use swat at all. How do I stop it from being compiled/installed? The only swat related configure switch I could find is where to put the swat stuff, but nothing to disable it period. TIA -- Harondel J. Can not connect to SWAT
Hello, Until yesterday (7 nov 03) I had a mostly working 2.27 samba running on my redhat 9 box that I configured via SWAT. Now I can not get back into SWAT & I also (in a useless attempt to make it work) upgraded to samba 3.0 I get the following when trying to start SWAT: An error occured while loading http://matrix1:901/: Could not connect to host matrix1 (port 901) here

SWAT, where ?
Hi there... first I apologise for being dim... Where can I download SWAT from ? I've looked on the Samba.org site but it only tells me that the demo page is off-line and no more info. Idiot proof instructions for installing it on RH 7.2 would be handy too :-) Thanks Mike

Swat inactive, xinetd issue?
Since I've upgraded to Redhat 7.2 I cannot get swat to work, I am using the 2.4.7-10 kernal with samba 2.2.7 installed. I have checked all the applicable files, edited them accordingly as per Gary Fournerat's excellent How-to. No joy. I am pretty certain this is an xinetd issue. I never had this difficulty with inetd. I know that SAMBA is running as I can see the server from this

Samba 3.0alpha23 and swat
I just compiled and installed samba 3.0alpha23 with swat support. Anyways when I access http://localhost:901 <http://localhost:901/> I get asked for my username and password which I use root and it's password on but it keeps saying that it's the wrong password. I've been using swat since I first installed samba 2.2.3a and it's always worked right out of the box (with only

Changing SWAT port or removing 2.2.7
Some of you have already read about my newbie fortune with this Samba3 install. Thanks to those who answered my original questions. Now I have something which I know is probably academic, and perhaps still newbie-related. When I installed Samba3 on Friday, it took me a little while to figure out that my names required adding a 3 to the end (SWAT3, SAMBA3, TESTPARM3, et al). I did not uninstall

RE: Samba newbie question... (SWAT)
Thanks for the performance information John, I wasn't aware that optimising the conf could make such a difference. I guess my way of thinking - where I want to look at the original smb.conf file and have it nicely readable is a bit impractical, and maybe I will soon change that way of thinking, but I think it will help your work if you are aware of other peoples thought processes, (even if

SWAT on 3.0.0beta2
How do you get to the GLOBALS/Advanced list? The radio buttons don't seem to do anything, and nothing I tried refreshes the page with Advanced instead of Basic.

remote swat enabling
I've done this before and can't remember how. Also I have searched the archives and can't find it. Maybe some of us can come up with a better way searching the archives. My current way takes a lot of time. Anyway I am trying to enable swat from a remote location and there is some file somewhere that says only allow it from local but I can't remember what file that is. Can

AW: Login from win2k client to samba PDC
John, thanks for that hint. It did not kill the server by you are perfectly right. I changed this and restarted the "smb" and "nmb" deamons - unfortunately with the same result. When I watch e.g. the status with "swat" I see as follows after trying with: smbclient -U <user> -L win2k1 (what is strange since I connect as different user and not
