(Fwd) vfs_recycle and create mode 770
I'd like to use the recycle as a per machine recycler using the option
'name = .recycle/%m' (because we just use some usernames
without passwords, and not because of the adminstrators abilties, but for a better
workflow with a lot of different projects and people working on them.)
But if a directory is created the vfs recycle uses the rights 700, and i have found
no way around it

Frustrated with Samba and CUPS
I'm sure you've seen that subject line before....
I can't get Samba (via Swat) to see my CUPS printers at all.
I've tried everything I can think of...the single network-connected printer
is listed in CUPS and I've added it on the command-line (via printconf-tui).
I can send a test page to it from the CUPS web-interface and also through
the printconf-tui interface. I can

An OK too much when starting smb service
Hi, I've got a question, mostly out of curiosity, because my Mandrake
Linux 9.0 + Samba 2.2.8a is actually working fine.
Whenever I (re)start Samba by issuing "service smb start", I get the
following output:
[root@localhost marco]# service smb start
Avvio servizi SMB: [ OK ]
Avvio servizi NMB:

Queue Control and Cups
I have also posted this to the CUPS general group, but thought that it was
also a relevant post for this list.
-------
I have samba-2.2.8a on RedHat 7.2. This has been a stable setup for quite
some time, printing works as advertised. However, attempting to control the
queues and print jobs is another story. As an aside, the Linux box is a
domain member that does pass through authentication

First login VERY slow only with XP client
Hello all,
I have setup a Samba NT domain using OpenLDAP for authentication (compiling
samba 2.2.3a with the LDAP option). One linux box holds the OpenLDAP server
and is also a samba server (local master, software, doc), another acts as
the PDC (holds user dirs) and redirect authentication requests to the
former.
It works perfectly well with an heterogeneous set of machines (linux-samba
clients,

Samba 2.2.5 - can't initialize locking module`
I have just upgraded a RedHat 6.2 box from Samba 2.0.10 to Samba 2.2.5
in one of our elementary school buildings because we now have some w2k
boxes that must log to the domain. I'm now getting an error on
initializing the locking modules when I run smbstatus. I did the upgrade
remotely so I don't know yet whether workstations work properly with the
upgrade.

ADD Printerdriver to server through APW
Hi
I recently tried to install the printerdriver to the samba server (samba
3.0alpha30 on debian) from a windows 2000 client.
The APW asked me for a Win2k-server cd for the winnt drivers, although
i had them on a disc...which I don't have
2 Questions:
1) does anybody know why the APW will not accept my winnt driver from
the driver disc when i comes to install the winnt driver
2) is it

Bytle Locking
I am running RH8 with Samba 2.2.6. I am attempting to
connect a Win2k box to my Linux box. I "see" Linux in
Network Neighborhood, I can ping the Win2k BIOS name,
and I can ping the Linux box BIOS name. However When
I click on accessing linux I get resource not
available. And when I run smbstatus I get the
following:
Samba version 2.2.6

No results found
I was under the impression that this is a good list. But maybe that
isn't the case. I have asked multiple questions and have done tons of
research before hand and tried to be as specific as possible.
So far I haven't received any answers.
All I wanted was information on getting a NT server to accecpt
connections from UNIX.
The documentation is to clumsy and very hard to read. The

Macintosh + Samba integration
I have been searching through the docs and on the web to no avail.
I work at a university and we are moving our fileservers to new
hardware.
The problem is, nothing seems to integrate Mac's and Win box's happily.
We have a large user base using samba already, but when mac's pick up
the same share via CAP, CAP creates files to deal with the dual 'stream'
nature of files from a

Samba won't allow PC connections
Hello list,
I am at the hair pulling stage of this game right now. Having read through
many of the posts, I still seem to be unable to get my samba server to
allow anonymous connections ( or any connections for that matter ) from
windows machines.
All I want to do is have printers and one folder shared, all as guest
accessable. I have made the security level = share and made the shares

Problems w/long file access times (samba2.2.5 & WinXP pro) (fwd)
Hello all,
we're currently having problems with Windows XP machines that have
*very* long file access times for files that are located on our
linux-based samba server (samba 2.2.5 / linux 2.4.18). This happens with
all kinds of files, with all kinds of programs, including Office97, text
editors, develoment environments, etc.
Sometimes - the incidents itself seems to be random and is not

PDF printing problem - can't find Samba's spool file?
I'm still struggling with this, and people keep asking me why the PDF
printer still isn't working...does anyone have any suggestions?

I'm sure this is something simple, but I can't figure it out.

ipchains question
I have a couple questions that I will submit separately. When I have
IPchains running I can't get my samba box to show up in network
neighborhood, but when I turn ipchains off the box shows up. What rules do
I need to add for things to work properly?

[PATCH libnbd v2 1/2] lib: Don't use perror after fork in nbd_connect_callback.
perror is not fork-safe and so could deadlock. Instead open code a
fork-safe version of perror. While this fixes the current behaviour,
in the long term we'd like to capture the error message into the usual
error mechanism, so this is not the full and final fix for this issue.
Also this fixes the exit code to be 126/127 instead of 1.

Printer Problems (Access Denied)
I've seen this issue asked about and asked about in the archives,
unfortunately I can't seem to find a real solution only people's theories.
The issue involves a 2.2.5 Samba server acting as a member print server in
a Windows 2000 domain.
I can add printers from the server to clients in the domain and then
print. The issue comes when I try and view/manage the print queue from
Windows.

Samba DC issue.
Hello,
I'm trying to use samba (Version 2.2.3a-6 for Debian) as a DC for a windows
2000 pro network. Everything seems to work OK, except the roaming profiles.
Every few days (I haven't locked down a pattern yet) all machines connected
to the server loose their connection, and no one can connect again until the
server is rebooted. I'm using log level 3, and this is what log.smbd

Recycle Bin On Share
Rowland,
How exactly does this command work?
recycle:repository = .recycle/%U
Does the command create user folders with '.recycle' sub folders?

config-file for recycle bin
I make a recycle bin as follow:
config-file = /etc/samba/recycle.conf
vfs object = recycle
recycle:subdir_mode = 0770
recycle:keeptree = Yes
recycle:repository = Recycle Bin
recycle:versions = Yes
recycle:directory_mode = 0770
But testparm shows:
Unknown parameter encounter: "config-file"
Ignoring unknown parameter "config-file"
What could be the problem and the solution?
